An architectural bird cage fabric, with cages based on buildings from many different times and places. A pattern of shadow trees adds depth to the design. A novelty fabric that is a lot of fun!

Thermodynamic Somatisms/ Verticalscapes (II) (Iñaki Ábalos + Renata Sentkiewicz, Spring 2012)

The Core Studio will seek to consolidate an advanced understanding of high-rise construction in association with thermodynamics and to experiment with various somatic aspects of human behavior. The Studio will develop a spatial grammar and syntax associated with thermodynamics, through the definition of an operative bibliography, experimentation with zero energy-balance open and closed systems, the analysis of significant case studies associated with different technical fields, and a proposal for an operational grammar.

STG Design completed the renovation of the Southwest YMCA’s existing facility to better serve the increasing demands of South Austin. The concept was to express a transition from urban to garden, symbolizing the every day progression from work, to fitness, to life. This concept is expressed in the architecture by progressively dissolving the mass of the existing tilt-wall façade with a multi-colored perforated screen. The play of light from the screen is more pronounced as one approaches the east side or “Garden,” much like the dappling of light of the sky through the canopy of a tree.

The facility includes a basketball court, indoor pool, aerobics area, pilates area, free weights, cardio, spinning, indoor walking track, outdoor pool and outdoor play area. Photography copyright Paul Bardagjy 2011

Toyota / Sustainable Retailing - 2010 / 2012

Space Projects were appointed by Toyota GB Plc to formulate a blueprint for their “Sustainable Retail Centres ‘” throughout the U.K. Being current brand guardians for Toyota GB Plc and having completed a successful roll out programme for 190 + sites, Space Projects are ideally placed to identify ‘eco technologies’ that will compliment and enhance the operational demands of Toyota Centres.

The study looked at every component and operation of a typical Toyota Centre to identify opportunities to minimize environmental impact through reducing energy use, generating energy, saving water, rainwater harvesting, recycling. In tandem with environmental benefits, the study demonstrated commercial benefits via life cycle cost savings for the Retail Centres.

The realization of these works will be translated into Toyota’s new showrooms during the in the first half of 2011.

Toyota Enfield is the manifestation, realisation and result of our study work.

Do not pass GO, do not collect $200. Very contemporary look to these barred windows which are cells housing inmates at this detention facility (which is quite large). Chain link, razor wire and cinder blocks all add to the feeling of confinement...
