This was a shot of Canary Wharf station on the Jubilee Line (as well as others!) of the London Underground. I really like the way the oval shape of the glass roof and surrounding concrete frame the escalators in the scene.

A view from below of the French River Visitor Centre . I really like this architecture and how it is framed by the trees and built into the rock. Happy Window Wednesday

Stanford was founded by a railroad magnate, U.S. Senator, former Governor of California Leland Stanford, and his wife, Jane Stanford.

From an architectural point of view, the Stanfords wanted their university to look different and sought to emulate the style of English university buildings. They specified in the founding grant that the buildings should "be like the old adobe houses of the early Spanish days; they will be one-storied; they will have deep window seats and open fireplaces, and the roofs will be covered with the familiar dark red tiles." Stanford University’s original campus opened in 1891, was designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, best known for co-designing New York City's Central Park. Olmsted's design for Stanford featured a grand, open quadrangle surrounded by low-rise buildings in a Mission Revival style, which became a defining architectural feature of the campus. The main buildings were designed by Charles Allerton Coolidge of the Boston architectural firm Shepley, Rutan, and Coolidge, under Olmsted’s guidance.

Designed by Victor Lundy and built in 1962, Unitarian Meeting House in Hartford is sited at the base of a sloped park. The circular church has tweleve concrete curved diameter-line fin walls, and steel bridge cables that support the sweeping, cedar plank roof. The tent-like wooden ceiling evokes the rays of the sun.

"The Burghers of Calais /Les Bourgeois de Calais"/, 1889 is a sculpture by Auguste Rodin. It was made in twelve original castings and numerous copies.

It commemorates an event during the Hundred Years' War, when Calais, a French port on the English Channel, surrendered to the English after an eleven-month siege. The work was completed in 1889.

In 1346, England's Edward III, after victory in the Battle of Crécy, laid siege to Calais, while Philip VI of France ordered the city to hold out at all costs. Philip failed to lift the siege, and starvation eventually forced the city to negotiate for surrender.

Edward offered to spare the people of the city if six of its leaders would surrender themselves to him, presumably to be executed. Edward demanded they walk out wearing nooses around their necks and carrying the keys to the city and castle. One of the wealthiest town leaders, Eustache de Saint Pierre, volunteered first, and five other burghers joined him. Saint Pierre led this envoy of volunteers to the city gates.

The burghers expected to be executed, but their lives were spared by the intervention of England's queen, Philippa of Hainault, who persuaded her husband to exercise mercy by claiming their deaths would be a bad omen for her unborn child.

Let's go for an architecture hunt in greater Paris! This is part of Les Espaces d'Abraxas, a megalomaniac seventies development in neoclassical style in newtown Noisy-le-Grand, just east of Paris

A view from my garden of the ruins of an early 1900's school building considered modern for the time with a rounded roof, especially since the first quanset huts were not designed until 1941.

The triangular residential building known as, "Via 57 West" is in my personal opinion, one of the coolest & most interesting modern era architectural building designs in New York City's ever growing skyline.

Antwerp’s Port House, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, merges historic substance with futuristic form. The glass volume floats above the old fire station like a diamond above the water—a tribute to the city’s maritime legacy. Its faceted triangular façade reflects the evening light in dynamic ways. Captured from a dramatic low-angle perspective, the photo emphasizes the bold geometry and the striking tension between heritage and innovation.

This former industrial district along Fort Point Channel is filled with historic lofts, many housing art studios and galleries.

A striking example of modern design, this image showcases a long, covered walkway lined with bold yellow columns and a checkered tile floor. The strong perspective draws the viewer’s eye toward the horizon, where distant figures add scale and movement to the scene. Framed by a vivid blue sky and lush greenery, the composition blends architectural rhythm with natural serenity—an inviting space for both reflection and exploration.
