MacroMondays-AprilFools-1April2019. Once I had produced one I thought I could do better and did 2 more..... but I MUST stop now! :-)
Late afternoon in the garden. It was a warm March day and I was enjoying a float made with frozen raspberries and blackberries in pure seltzer water.

#MacroMondays
I think I need to explain: This is an antique beaded purse in sunlight. Some beads are metal and some multi-hued. They make bokeh balls bouncing in sunlight. I exposed to avoid clipping highlights, hence the darker areas. Such a fun thing to photograph—no two macros look the same. And the size of bokeh depends upon the angle of light, aperture setting, and closeness to the subject.
I think this was my great-grandmother’s purse.
But how does it relate to April 1, you ask? I had thought to ask those in #MacroMondays to guess, but I don’t think anyone could. And we don’t have tiny toys or the imagination...
About the day’s origin from Wikipedia:
“A disputed association between April 1 and foolishness is in Geoffrey Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales (1392). In the "Nun's Priest's Tale", a vain cock Chauntecleer is tricked by a fox on Syn March bigan thritty dayes and two. Readers apparently understood this line to mean "32 March", i.e. April 1. However, it is not clear that Chaucer was referencing April 1. Modern scholars believe that there is a copying error in the extant manuscripts and that Chaucer actually wrote, Syn March was gon. If so, the passage would have originally meant 32 days after March, i.e. 2 May, the anniversary of the engagement of King Richard II of England to Anne of Bohemia, which took place in 1381.
“In 1508, French poet Eloy d'Amerval referred to a poisson d’avril (April fool, literally "Fish of April"), possibly the first reference to the celebration in France. Some writers suggest that April Fools' originated because in the Middle Ages, New Year's Day was celebrated on March 25 in most European towns, through a holiday that in some areas of France, specifically, ended on April 1, and those who celebrated New Year's Eve on January 1 made fun of those who celebrated on other dates by the invention of April Fools' Day. The use of January 1 as New Year's Day became common in France only by the mid-16th century, and the date was not adopted officially until 1564, thanks to the Edict of Roussillon.
“In 1539, Flemish poet Eduard de Dene wrote of a nobleman who sent his servants on foolish errands on April 1.
In the Netherlands, the origin of April Fools' Day is often attributed to the Dutch victory at Briellein 1572, where the Spanish Duke Álvarez de Toledo was defeated. "Op 1 april verloor Alva zijn bril" is a Dutch proverb, which can be translated to: "On the first of April, Alva lost his glasses." In this case, the glasses ("bril" in Dutch) serve as a metaphor for Brielle.” (more on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fools'_Day)
Big surprise on Sunday morning. There were strange sounds coming from the inside of one of the breakfast eggs - then the surface of this egg started cracking, and out came a tiny shiny black nose, followed by a silver furry head with huge round black eyes. With the hole in the shell getting bigger, the egg turned over and the tiniest minimini baby seal fell out, honking and wailing with its high little voice.
We couldn't believe what we saw.... ;)
HMM and a lot of fun to you, dear Flickr friends.
52 Weeks: The 2020 Edition
An image I took and edited a number of years ago, but it fits this week's theme so well!
It looks like the little chick will be hatched in time for Easter.
Don't worry, this procedure caused no danger to the chick - he is well protected by the foil coating.
OK, as you probably have noticed, this was just an April Fool's joke. Here's the real new Windows logo! ;-)
Hope Microsoft will not get in trouble with the makers of Senso / Simon. ;-)

In France, the tradition on the first April is to try to put a picture of a fish at the back of persons.
Macro Monday theme: April Fools’ Day. Snow in April needs to go. Spring is here but it looks like we are still in the heart of winter.
Well worth the cold, early morning hike for this one! Getting the hang of the graduated filters, shooting in RAW.

It was our last day in Innsbruck and the weather was fabulous. Everyone was out walking, sitting at the cafes, or on the river wall enjoying the warmth.
I went to the Marktplatz, the center of town, pulled out my alter ego, and went for it! Me and my banana skins in mid-air. It was fun!
I'll miss this little town :(

I'm not sure exactly what happened - HIC - One minute I was - HIC - watching him giving orders, and then - HIC - out of the - HIC - blue my captain just disappeared! I looked around and - HIC - I noti - HIC - ced that all of the inhabitants of - HIC - the city were gone as - HIC - well! HIC! I also happened to notice - HIC - some promising looking wine barrels - HIC - by an empty building.
HIC! Naturally, I - HIC - grabbed a goblet from the - HIC - waterfall of gold items that was - HIC - pouring out of my pockets (I'm not sure - HIC - why this was happening, but now isn't the - HIC - time to worry about - HIC that) and poured myself a generous helping of that - HIC - good ol' Kaderan wine. HIC! It's strong stuff that - HIC - wine, le' me tell you. HIC! I poured myself another - HIC - four glasses (or was it - HIC - five?) and that - HIC - pretty much bring you up to - HIC - date. If all goes - HIC - well, my Captain won't be - HIC reappearing for a - HIC - while.

Built for the Fractured Kingdoms April Fools challenge - don't worry, this didn't actually - HIC - happen to my character ;)
This was a really simple, small, and quick build made in about an hour, which kind of explains the lack of really any detail or size. I have to apologize for the low quality photo, my regular set up is currently out of order so I was forced to use an iPhone, which isn't by any means my first choice when it comes to cameras.
Feedback is much appreciated and as always,
Happy Building!
Juvenile Antillean Kingfisher (knotta birdus) ~ Sarasota County, Florida
West coast Florida birders were treated to great looks at this Antillean Kingfisher. They are normally found in the Lesser Antilles and a few other islands. What was most striking to me about the bird was its large head relative to his body which serves an important purpose. The added weight allows the kingfisher to get deeper below the surface where larger prey can be found. The weight also helps the hunting as gravity propels the bird to simply fall into the water at great speeds with minimal wing movement to not scare the fish.
Thanks for visiting!
TGIF Everyone! Prelude to a wonderful weekend for all I hope. We are supposed to have some spring weather in the Seattle,WA area finally. They are predicting highs in the 60's! Shazzzaaaam!
We are all enjoying the gas range I installed during my last project. That involved running a gas line under the house, because we previously had a electric range. Nothing like cooking on fire. :P
And finally...
So this week for Macro Mondays theme 'April Fools' we've been tasked with photographing something goofy, silly, funny or humorously arranged like funny-faced bugs, fruit or veggies, silly little toys, or objects arranged to make a joke or pun.
Ladies & gentlemen, I give you:
Focus PeaKing. 😀
This image was captured for the Macro Mondays theme: April Fools.
The Tom Foolery might best be apparent when viewed large.
Wow.... I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this bird in my yard! Could it really be an actual Blue Eyed Cowbird? Some sort of really rare mutant cross? All the other cowbirds eyes are plain brown, not this glorious turquoise blue! ....... Or, one other possibility, could it really just be MacroMondays: "April Fools"??? You decide! :)
