I honest to God hit every button in the complete selection of Photoshop applications more than once and I have no real idea what I did ...but I had fun. I did watercolors for over 25 years and I think this resembles one but that's the one button I don't think I pushed. LOL.......Have a FUN WEEK END FLICKR FRIENDS !!

(Note: I have been looking or Gershwin's passport application for a long time. I knew he had gone to London for the 1922 production of "The Rainbow". Finally I hit on the version of his name that he was using at the time, Jacob Gershwine.)
George Gershwin was born in Brooklyn in 1898, the second of four children from a close-knit immigrant family. He began his musical career as a song-plugger on Tin Pan Alley, but was soon writing his own pieces. Gershwin’s first published song, “When You Want ‘Em, You Can’t Get ‘Em,” demonstrated innovative new techniques, but only earned him five dollars. Soon after, however, he met a young lyricist named Irving Ceaser. Together they composed a number of songs including “Swanee,” which sold more than a million copies.
In the same year as “Swanee,” Gershwin collaborated with Arthur L. Jackson and Buddy De Sylva on his first complete Broadway musical, “La, La Lucille”. Over the course of the next four years, Gershwin wrote forty-five songs; among them were “Somebody Loves Me” and “Stairway to Paradise,” as well as a twenty-five-minute opera, “Blue Monday.” Composed in five days, the piece contained many musical clichés, but it also offered hints of developments to come.
In 1924, George collaborated with his brother, lyricist Ira Gershwin, on a musical comedy “Lady Be Good”. It included such standards as “Fascinating Rhythm” and “The Man I Love.” It was the beginning of a partnership that would continue for the rest of the composer’s life. Together they wrote many more successful musicals including “Oh Kay!” and “Funny Face”, staring Fred Astaire and his sister Adele. While continuing to compose popular music for the stage, Gershwin began to lead a double life, trying to make his mark as a serious composer.
When he was 25 years old, his jazz-influenced “Rhapsody in Blue” premiered in New York’s Aeolian Hall at the concert, “An Experiment in Music.” The audience included Jascha Heifitz, Fritz Kreisler, Leopold Stokowski, Serge Rachmaninov, and Igor Stravinsky. Gershwin followed this success with his orchestral work “Piano Concerto in F, Rhapsody No. 2″ and “An American in Paris”. Serious music critics were often at a loss as to where to place Gershwin’s classical music in the standard repertoire. Some dismissed his work as banal and tiresome, but it always found favor with the general public.
In the early thirties, Gershwin experimented with some new ideas in Broadway musicals. “Strike Up The Band”, “Let ‘Em Eat Cake”, and “Of Thee I Sing”, were innovative works dealing with social issues of the time. “Of Thee I Sing” was a major hit and the first comedy ever to win the Pulitzer Prize. In 1935 he presented a folk opera “Porgy and Bess” in Boston with only moderate success. Now recognized as one of the seminal works of American opera, it included such memorable songs as “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” “I Loves You, Porgy,” and “Summertime.”
In 1937, after many successes on Broadway, the brothers decided go to Hollywood. Again they teamed up with Fred Astaire, who was now paired with Ginger Rogers. They made the musical film, “Shall We Dance”, which included such hits as “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off” and “They Can’t Take That Away From Me.” Soon after came “A Damsel in Distress”, in which Astaire appeared with Joan Fontaine. After becoming ill while working on a film, he had plans to return to New York to work on writing serious music. He planned a string quartet, a ballet and another opera, but these pieces were never written. At the age of 38, he died of a brain tumor. Today he remains one of America’s most beloved popular musicians.

Da giovanissimo ha studiato con numerosi Maestri di kung fu Shaolin raggiungendo un alto livello di abilità. E’ poi passato alla pratica del Tai Chi Chuan, disciplina verso la quale ha deciso di dedicare tutta la sua vita.
Sifu Ding è uno dei pochi maestri ad aver studiato con tutti e tre i discepoli dell’ultimo Gran Maestro: Yang Sau Chung, Chu King Hung (Terzo discepolo), Chu Gin Soon (secondo discepolo) ed Ip Tai Tak (primo discepolo).
Lo studio con i discepoli di Yang Sau Chung lo ha portato ad essere una delle poche persone a poter dimostrare altissimi livelli nell’arte del Tai Chi Chuan e nell’uso dell’energia interna.
Master Ding Teah Chean (John Ding) has extensive experience in both Kung Fu and Tai Chi Chuan having approached these disciplines from a young age.
From a very young age he studied with numerous Shaolin kung fu Masters reaching a high level of skill. He then moved on to the practice of Tai Chi Chuan, a discipline to which he has decided to dedicate his whole life.
Sifu Ding is one of the few masters to have studied with all three disciples of the last Grand Master: Yang Sau Chung, Chu King Hung (Third disciple), Chu Gin Soon (second disciple) and Ip Tai Tak (first disciple).
Studying with Yang Sau Chung's disciples led him to be one of the few people who can demonstrate very high levels in the art of Tai Chi Chuan and in the use of internal energy.

In 1929 large-scale commercial gravel extraction began around Attenborough and would continue for the next ninety years. The extraction formed deep lagoons and as the extraction moved away from the works the gravel was transported by barge through the ever-expanding network of lagoons. In 1965, an application from the Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) looked to fill the lagoons with ash from Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station. However, by this time, the pits were already well-known for their wildlife interest and extensively used by local fishermen and birdwatchers, with records starting around 1948. Due to the strength of local feeling the CEGB withdrew their application and the ash was taken to Fletton, Peterborough. Discussions then began with the site’s then owners, Trent Gravels Ltd, about the future for the lagoons and it was agreed to develop the site as a nature reserve in parallel with continued gravel extraction. The opening ceremony as a nature reserve was in 1966 and was performed by David Attenborough. Gravel extraction has now finished, and the works have been demolished, whilst the nature reserve now welcomes around 500,000 visitors per year and is regarded as one of the best sites in the UK to see kingfishers.
Ratcliffe on Soar 2116MW power station was built in the mid-1960s and opened in 1968 and is one of the biggest coal fired power stations built in the country. In 1981, the station was burning 5.5 million tonnes of coal a year, consuming 65% of the output of the south Nottinghamshire coalfield. Emissions of sulphur dioxide, which caused acid rain, were greatly reduced in 1993 when a flue gas desulphurisation system using a wet limestone-gypsum process became operational on the four boilers. Emissions of nitrogen oxides which also cause damage to the ozone layer, were reduced in 2004 when Ratcliffe became the first in the United Kingdom to be fitted with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. One of the last coal fired power stations still in use it is due to close in 2025.
Plough and Harrow.
Built in circa 1850’s the Plough and Harrow Pub has had an interesting past which extends back as far as 1880 when it gained attention and opposition from publicans and puritans.

APPLICATION
Mr. Mowll, solicitor, of Dover, said he was instructed by Messrs. Gardner and Co. Brewers of Ash, to ask permission of the Magistrates to pull down the public-house at Tilmanstone known as the "Plough and Harrow," and erect a new one in its stead. It was at present only a beer-house, and he had therefore to apply to the Bench to grant them a license to sell spirits.
Mr. Edward W. Fry, surveyor and architect, said he had prepared the public plans produced of the house which was proposed to be built, the erection of which would cost £700.
In answer to Mr. D'Aeth, Mr. Gardener (a member of the firm) stated that if the house were fully licensed a new tenant would be found to attend to the business solely, and not go out to work as the present one did. If a spirit license was granted it would not interfere with any other house in the district. There were no fully licensed houses along the main road from the "Coach and Horses" at Eastry to the "Royal Oak," Whitfield, a distance of between six or seven miles.
Mr. Minter, of Folkestone, appeared on behalf of the owner and occupier of the "Three Ravens" public-house, Tilmanstone, to oppose the application on the ground that additional accommodation was not required.
George Atwood, landlord of the public-house mentioned, deposed that the "Three Ravens Inn" was five minutes walk from the house proposed to be erected. He believed the population of the parish had decreased of late, and did not consider that the traffic had increased.
The application was refused.
Today has survived all attempts at opposition and the Plough and Harrow Pub at Tilmanstone had undergone a massive transformation which has reinvigorated the old pub into a stylish place to stop and indulge in a pint.

The Gentex model 411 Flight Helmet was in use from the 1960's to the 1990's. This configuration would be typical for a non-fighter application as it has the boom mic rather than an oxygen mask and the single clear vistor. The high-visibility markings would suggest this was used by Search-and-Rescue. On display at the Military Museums of Calgary.

Photographed February 2020 / Canon CANONFLEX Single Lens Reflex 35mm film camera with Lens Mount Convertor P & Pentacon 30mm/3.5 (Lydith) lens. Film was Kentmere 400 metered ASA 200 developed in PMK PYRO (5ml A + 10ml B > 600ml, 7min 10sec, 20*C). The negative was illuminated on a light table and scanned with a Pentax k3 DSLR and Schneider Componon-S 80mm/4 enlarging lens on helicoid extension tubes. The image was edited on an iPad mini using the Snap Seed application: full frame image scan of entire negative area without trimming.
SNRs got clearer after StaNet++v2.0 application. Detail of Monoceros Loop is fantastic. I am satisfied at this result taken with the small equipment on the ground in not so dark area.

Wind was mild. Atmospheric turbulence was bad, and guide error RMS was 1.33". Sky Quality Meter indicated 20.77 at the night.

Chromolithographic patterns from La Plante et ses Applications Ornementales (1896) by Maurice Pillard Verneuil (1869–1942), French artist and decorator in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movement. Verneuil studied and developed his style from Eugène Grasset, a Franco-Swiss pioneer of Art Nouveau design. Inspired by Japanese art, nature and particularly the sea. He is known for his contributions to the Art Deco movement through the use of bold floral designs on ceramic tiles, wallpapers, textiles, and posters.
