Game theorist and author of Fun Inc., Tom Chatfield examined the relationship between technology, culture and animation and explored how the idea of "animating" as breathing life into imaginative characters and worlds has evolved with the 21th century.

A look around the Art of Animation Resort hotel at Walt Disney World.

For the background of my animation I have stayed with my storyboards and creating my original idea. I have used very simple textures and only created the aspects which will be seen in the final animation. I created a extremely low poly environment for the animation so it would help with the rendering process. I did not spend a lot of time for this and managed to finish the scene ahead of the planned completion, which gave me extra time to put towards my animation.

I needed to create the background of the animation because of the Props that will be used. The main part of the scene will be the full size post box. I have created this with a basic design looking at reference images for help.

In this final assignment, we were tasked to create an animation from our models. In the first session, we were asked to find a few reference clips to animate in the future. Right now, it is very helpful to look at the reference clips and see which one suits our character models best. For my model, I decided to go with the Bruce Lee warm up clip. In the video clip, Bruce Lee warms up in a unique way and shows various different poses that define strength.

In the clips, Bruce Lee does about 6 moves in 2 seconds, moving at a fast rate. It was a challenge to actually follow the moves however I managed to create poses of them because of the way his arms are moving and which direction they’re going, you can easily predict where they’re about to go and an idea of what the next pose might be.

In my animation, you can see that most moves resemble poses from the original reference clip. However, I have added a few of my own poses because I wanted the animation to be going for a bit longer than the original.

I started with the blocking animation to see each pose after 10 frames, so in between, I could fill out the frames and the animation would then be straight ahead.

Overall, I am happy with the outcome but I feel like I could do it better if I had more time.

After a few traditional animation studies I decided I wanted to create this short digital animation.

Fête du village - Juillet 2014

9 and a half hours later my animation is rendered and I begin compositing the final visuals.

Although I did texture the character I still adjust settings such as the hue and saturation in the footage along with adding a background and extras. (Like rain and a cinematic appeal)

I take inspiration from the original footage in Blade Runner by adding a background that is reminiscent of a futuristic like city without taking to much away from the animated model.

I also take visual inspiration from the recent film "Enders Game" along with the video game "Battlefield 4".

I create the environment with photoshop creating a foreground, midground (Character model) and background.

I also add a cheeky lens flare in the foreground but I make sure it doesn't take over the footage.
