This was my first attempt at any sort of stop-motion-ish thing. I keep thinking I might try another, but time seems strangely lacking these days!

So I have worked so, so, so hard on my animation project that i definately thought it was worth a picture. A picture to remind myself of the commitment put into it. A commitment were i put aside: Food shopping! Friday & Saturday Nights out! Sleep!
I have enjoyed it so far and am looking forward to the final outcome!

Vick Wang: Panorama of Inner Journey
Vick Wang took four years to develop the story and produce the 3D animation, for Panorama of Inner Journey. With components of introduction, elucidation of the theme, transition to another viewpoint, and summary used to deconstruct the animation into different segments. These segments were put into a panoramic visual space where the viewers can freely walk about, with the story developed by the viewers’ different moving flows and paces.
The world in the human mind is like an organic city with hidden energy. As time goes by, the city experiences different stages of birth, expansion, decline, and reconstruction. Various fragments of life’s experiences are transcribed into words, images, and sounds, which are stored in the scenes of the densely packed cityscape. When a viewer walks inside the panoramic space that is covered by audiovisual effects, the infrared sensor device will initiate projections in the style of comic strips. The order of images differs for each viewer based on the person’s walking route. As the animated images are displayed non-linearly and randomly, the way the viewer is walking acts like a real-time editing mechanism for the animation, with the narrative presented in a non-linear and random manner. The story is reinterpreted and organized, as it becomes each viewer’s own story based on the received images and sounds that are reconstructed by each individual’s logic and instinct. Each reinterpreted and recomposed story allows the person to explore a montage-like journey that is uniquely his or her own.

This short animation was made in 24 hours for THAC 2024 contest. THAC is short for The Twenty-four Hour Animation Contest. This is an annual international event for fans of stop-motion animation. I've always wanted to participate but never had the free time. This year I managed to do it. What does it look like exactly?

This is where I work: Fatkat Animation Studios. Over 70 talented animators under one roof! And there's room for plenty more! Joy of joys!
MICA 2D Character Animation Assignment: Animate a character in an environment consisting of 3 boxes, a board, and a ball. The character uses these items to reach and turn off a fan. Also try to move the camera, maybe with zooming and panning.
I had a lot of fun experimenting with this one. I decided to make a miniature set and to animate my character over it, and I am really happy with the way it turned out.
This is an animation of Daisy, done in the Warhol style and animated. This was done entirely in Gimp! I put the animated version below since several people could not see it.

now, onto character design......
This is pretty rough, but I'm excited by this test. It demonstrates a method for doing 8 cell cycle animations with Brushes.
I actually attempted to do a walking cycle, but I'm such a poor animator my first try looked more like a dance. So I went with the flow.
By the way, the music (12th Street Rag) comes from an old cassette of me playing the piano way back in 1973. It seemed to fit the tempo of the video and it was copyright free.
Notes: The man, the woman, and the feet were done in separate Brushes files. I used the same procedure in each. I started with a white background and painted the figure in one stroke. Then I filled with an almost opaque white so I could barely see the figure (like using tracing paper). I then drew the next position of the figure and in the next stroke I used white to erase what was left of the previous frame. Each position required three frames - white, a single stroke drawing, and some erasing with white.
I exported each movie using the Brushes Viewer on my Macbook at 24 fps. This version looked like an old flickery movie because every third frame was white. It was a cool effect, but not what I wanted. So I exported each clean frame out of each movie as a numbered PICT file and made a new movie from the image sequences. I then copied and pasted the cycles to get the length right for each sequence. This was all done in Quicktime Pro along with adding the audio track which I had edited in Audacity and saved as an AIFF file.

Last night was the Animation Extravaganza, the annual screening completely devoted to animation. It's a part of the Atlanta Film Festival, one of the top 20 in the nation. We had a great line-up of animation, including John Canemaker's Oscar-winning film, THE MOON AND THE SON. The venue was at Lefont Garden Hills Cinema on Peachtree Road, Atlanta.
I did some emceeing for the night—being the screenings cooordinator for ASIFA-Atlanta, our organization helped with some of the selection process as well as volunteered for the evening. It was a big success!
