The Zermatt Alps are one of the most famous and popular ski destinations in Switzerland, with its iconic Matterhorn view. This picture was taken at around mid august, so the areas around Zermatt were generally free of snow, except the peaks you can see in the distance.
These peaks are snow capped all year round, and at the Klein Matterhorn, a ski slope operates all year round, and lots of people take the cable car up there in the summer. This picture was taken along the Hiking trail near the Gornergrat tramway. It was a beautiful clear day, so we took the tram up to the Gornergrat observatory and then hiked our way down. If I remembered correctly the Matterhorn was to the right of this image.

Looking the other way, we can see a cable car that takes tourists to the wilderness. Families occasionally have picnics closeby with screaming children.
R8294. Built in 1946 at the Montreal Locomotive Works at Québec in Canada, this is ex SNCF oil fired 2-8-2 141R1244 working a special train on the Gotthard line at Göschenen in Switzerland on Saturday, 6th September, 1997.
Göschenen is nearly at the top of the climb as from here the trains enter the 15 kilometre (9.3 mile) long Gotthard Tunnel - the actual summit of the line is roughly half way through.
There were numerous celebrations in Switzerland during 1997 as it was 150 years since the first railway in Switzerland was opened; this was the Schweizerische Nordbahn from Zürich to Baden in 1847. It became known as the Spanisch Brötli Bahn because there was a baker in Baden who produced a particular type of bread known as 'Spanisch Brötli' and this could now be transported to Zürich in 45 minutes using the new railway.
The SNCF 141R class of 2-8-2s was built in America and Canada in the 1940s to help the French railways recover after the war and a few are now preserved. 141R1244 is owned by the Verein Mikado 1244 (Club Mikado 1244) based at Brugg in northern Switzerland.
