When leaving the Lenkerhof resort in Lenk, at the head of the Simmental Valley in Switzerland, on the morning of January 26, 2012 after (unfortunately) just a one-night stay, the day dawned cloudless and cold. On the way down the valley in the bus, we could see beautiful sunlit mountains to the left and right, on each side of the valley. I managed to get a few photos from the moving bus.
Time to turn around.
Watched huts by lake get resupplied by helicopter.
Bigger Lac de Fully Superieur and its dam is higher up ahead and to the right but too much snow. I'm at roughly 2100 metres.
The Zermatt Alps are one of the most famous and popular ski destinations in Switzerland, with its iconic Matterhorn view. This picture was taken at around mid august, so the areas around Zermatt were generally free of snow, except the peaks you can see in the distance.
These peaks are snow capped all year round, and at the Klein Matterhorn, a ski slope operates all year round, and lots of people take the cable car up there in the summer. This picture was taken along the Hiking trail near the Gornergrat tramway. It was a beautiful clear day, so we took the tram up to the Gornergrat observatory and then hiked our way down. If I remembered correctly the Matterhorn was to the right of this image.
