Harerug / Alpine Bistort - Polygonum viviparum
Polygonum viviparum (syn. Polygonum viviparum, Persicaria vivipara), commonly known as Alpine Bistort, is common all over the high Arctic. It stretches further south in high mountainous areas like the Alps, Carpathians, Pyrenees, Caucasus and the Tibetan Plateau.
It grows to 5-15 cm tall with a thick rootstock. The basal leaves are longish-elliptical with long stalks; upper ones are linear and stalkless. The flowers are white or pink in the upper part of the spike; lower ones are replaced by bulbils. Flowers rarely produce viable seeds and reproduction is normally by the bulbils. Very often a small leaf develops when the bulbil is still attached to the mother plant. The bulbils are rich in starch and are a preferred food for Rock Ptarmigan[1] and Reindeer; they are also occasionally used by Arctic people.
Alpine Bistort grows in many different plant communities, very often in abundance.

Harerug (Bistorta vivipara (L.) (Delarbre, evt. Polygonum viviparum L. eller Persicariaa vivipara (L.) Ronse Decr.) er en om lag 15 cm høy flerårig plante i slireknefamilien. Den har en mørk knebøyd jordstengel og ugreinet stengel. De nederste bladene er langskaftet og lansettformet. Lenger oppe på stengelen er de smalere og lysere og har kortere bladstilk. Blomsterstanden er et aks der det er hvite eller blekrøde blomster. Frukten er en nøtt. Men siden planten ofte har flest hanblomster blir det lite eller ingen frukt på akset. I steden har akset ofte mange yngleknupper. De utvikler seg gjerne med grønne blad før de faller av morplanten.
Harerug er vanlig i hele Norge. Den er ikke vanlig i lavlandet sør for Oslo. Den vokser mellom vekslende vegetasjon, og høyt til fjells. På Galdhøpiggen er den funnet i 2280 meters høyde. Elles er den vanlig nord til Jan Mayen, Bjørnøya og Svalbard. Utenom Norge har planten sirkumboreal eller sirkompolar utbredelse.
Både jordstengelen, bladene, fruktene og yngleknuppene er spiselige. Det er mest barn som har pleid å spise harerug. De kan ha tatt opp jordstengelen, putta yngleknuppene rett i munnen eller tatt de med inn og spist de sammen med melk.
Tidlegere hører vi at planten har vært brukt som tilskudd til kostholdet, helst i dårlige år. Yngleknuppane har då vorte tørka, malne og brukt i brødet. (Kilde: Wikipedia)

Introduced in 1961, the Alpine A110 (also known as the 'Berlinette') was produced in various forms until 1977. The A110 evolved from the A108 which used components from the Dauphine featuring a steel backbone chassis with fibreglass body; the A110 was also different in that its supply of components came largely from the Renault 8. During its production run, the A110 was powered by various Renault engines from 1100cc - 1600cc derived from those found in the R8, R12, R16 and R17 in various states of tune. The car became successful as a rally car in the early 1970's and was considered one of the best of that period; notably taking the first three places at the 1971 Monte Carlo Rally with Ove Anderson coming first and Thérier and Andruet following respectively. In 1973, following their recently completed buyout of Alpine, Renault decided to compete in the world championship. The A110 works cars won most races wherever entered and the Alpine dominated the Monte Carlo Rally that year with five official cars finishing in the top six. A further six victories were achieved resulting in the first World Rally Championship title.

Hélas, le moteur étudié par Gordini manquait cruellement de puissance face aux Ferrari, Matra et Porsche de près de 400 ch. Les A220 se contentèrent des seconds rôles jusqu'en 1969.
Ce ne fut que partie remise puisque Alpine s'imposera au Mans en 1978 avec la A442.

My 1993 Honda XR650L as I start to ride the Alpine Loop National Scenic Backcountry Byway. I'm carrying full camping gear just in case I break down somewhere on this long solo ride. I started this trip from a campsite not far out of Lake City, Colorado, rode the entire loop including Cinnamon Pass (12,640 feet) and Engineer Pass (12,800 feet) and took the side trips to Animas Forks and on into Silverton to watch the Durango & Silverton Railroad come into town. This loop takes you through both Hinsdale and San Juan Counties.
