It's been a long few weeks and I've not really had the chance to capture any trains and even the weekends have been busy, let alone want to look at a computer screen. I managed to get half an hour yesterday morning after spending three hours helping to sort my sons football pitches out.
The location fine, but slightly disaapointed with an EWS shed opposed to the more usual class 60 on the Peak Forest to Attercliffe stone train.
Alongside the national parks of Andasibe are two community owned and managed reserves - Mitsinjo and V.O.I.M.M.A. (Vondron’olona miaro mitia ala). This photograph was taken on a night walk in the latter, which protects a small area of primary forest with visitor income directly benefitting the local people (the name translates as "local people love the forest").

Taken alongside the Gold River Highway, Upper Campbell Lake, Vancouver Island. BC.
We were driving beside the lake when we came across this grouse ambling along the side of the road. My wife was driving and the bird was on her side - so the usual vehicular gymnastics occurred as I struggled to position myself to get the best shot without exiting the car!

A species of forest-dwelling grouse native to North America's Pacific Coast Ranges.
Adult males are mainly dark with a yellow throat air sac surrounded by white, and a yellow wattle over the eye during display. Adult females are mottled brown with dark brown and white marks on the underparts.
Acreage alongside the freeway had five dwellings what was left of them anyways. Sitting for so long nature took back what intruded upon the land. Trees, foliage bushes completely covered each property, climbing up through the roofs it had strange energy like someone had to leave in an awfully big hurry. It was very warm out, and the ground seemed unnaturally soft. I was offered by the owner of the land that it would be OK if I wanted to take pictures although she said why would you want to take pictures of these ugly houses. She then said she wishes they would all die meaning the houses .The only thing she would share was that her husbands family which immigrated from Italy came to California, and this is where they settled, but she looked angry as she said it. Almost resentful? The main road the houses sat on was named after the family. The property was near the river and I suspected this was native land originally. Did ask and she didn’t exactly answer but said there is an Indian burial ground near the railroad tracks which was nearby. There was generations of farm equipment, half buried in the soft dirt I had to be so very careful walking. . And the houses were full of personal belongings as though the people living there had to flee . Whatever secrets the owner had would stay with her . I never know what I might find in my short travels or what someone will share with me. The whole place could’ve easily been in a horror movie.. It’s been years since I found this place and I wonder if it even still exists or if new developments have already claimed it and pushed the people out that lived near the abandoned property.

Living alongside a marsh offers many surprises. Some not so pleasant, but others more than make up for it. Egrets fly overhead frequently. They drop feathers, yet few are seen. This time the feather lay nearly at eye level. Otherwise, I might not have seen it.

brussel sprouts sliced and cooked for a short time in boiling water

gravy made from the vegetable trivet which was cooking under the roast gammon, scrapings from the roasting tray, oxo and water, all blended using the hand blender
no added salt to the gravy or the overall meal. the gammon was smoked and the oxo cubes have salt in the ingredients

then two chicken drumsticks and a prepared dahl curry base
together with extra water, tomato paste and grape sauce
next powdered spices of garam masala, cumin, turmeric and chilli
cooked throughout with the lid on apart from the occasional stir on a low hob setting until the extra virgin olive oil came to the top

The semaphore signal is the down distant for Hubbert's Bridge which is nearly a mile to the west, and one of 12 manual signal boxes still operating on this line in early 2020.
