A beautiful, clear ocean sunset viewed from Marina State Beach in Marina, CA.

It was that special time again when I made a road trip to the beach. This time, I went south to Marina State Beach in Marina, CA. I've always been going up north to S.F. and I miss going south towards Monterey. Since gas was cheap and there was no coastal fog or clouds hugging the coastline, I was encouraged to make this trip... a trip to see a clear sunset by the sea! It's been a while since I've seen the sun itself actually clearly touch the ocean horizon.

The weather was pleasant and there was hardly any wind. There were big waves, however! Apparently, I have came during the 'king tide'. The king tides occur when the earth, moon and sun are aligned at perigee and perihelion, resulting in the largest tidal range seen over the course of a year.

After taking in the views and snapping pics, I then enjoyed the climax of the trip...a sunset by the sea! After the sunset, I was about to leave (I even turned on my car). However, I saw the moon and Venus up above over the dusk skies, so why not stay for some astronomy shots, too! So I went back out and I managed to capture an alignment of the moon, Mars and Venus (which I also forgot about)! The heavenly alignment above the Monterey Peninsula below was a dazzling sight... It was a great day...

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Alignment is in the existence of human life and things that are always closely linked as in a circle, in accordance with the laws of nature. My use of images of men and women is to express the Yin and Yang, the convex and concave: are present here. The moon is to represent Heaven and Earth, being a body in between as a link.

1913 Tumbulgum Hall.

Former Pacific Hwy alignment through Tumbulgum bypassed in the early 1970's by a new alignment that skirted the town.

This may be the only physical evidence left that I worked in the University of Notre Dame Nuclear Structure Laboratory. I had this crazy rig built sometime around 1979 I would guess. Its purpose was to check the alignment of the beam line through the Ortec scattering chamber.

I am not too sure anyone (other than me) has ever used this after it was installed and aligned but it was a hoot to see it still standing 30 years later.

My great grandfather, Royal, started this business in 1939. My grandfather ran it after that. I used to play with all the tools and bug the mechanics when I was little.

My first space scene in vue. Enjoy

The headtube was off by almost 5mm over its 105mm length. Not great. Bent that shit back.
