After getting the azimuth polar alignment done, I focus on a star near the Western horizon, but still near the celestial equator. I then correct the angle of the mount relative to the ground - the altitude - until the mount can track the Western star for about 5 minutes with minimal drift.
Alignment
The provided cover is from National Geographic, illustrating a young woman from Afghanistan and is a classic example of the use of alignment in graphic design.
The use of alignment is visible throughout the design. The picture is centered within the yellow field, creating an easily identifiable brand and background for whatever image is used in the cover.
The main titles and magazine information are center aligned, while the table of contents are aligned image left.
As the eye is drawn through the image, the table of contents is easily parsed without breaking the beauty of the image behind it.

A dazzling celestial display\alignment of Luna, Venus, Mars and Jupiter was seen this early morning! Some lingering high clouds above have made the display a bit 'hazy' but it was still visible. Pic taken from around San Jose, CA. (Thursday around dawn, October 8, 2015; 6:28 a.m.)
Astronomy news/update:
Before sunrise on October 7-9, 2015, the moon and the sky’s two brightest planets (Venus and Jupiter) was to create a dazzling celestial display. Look eastward before sunrise. On Wednesday (Oct. 7), from top to bottom, the setup was the moon, Venus and Jupiter. Venus is about 12 times brighter than Jupiter. On the mornings of October 7, 8 and 9, the moon was to be dropping downward toward the eastern horizon in the eastern predawn sky, sliding past the planets. Mars was to also be in the show as well but may appear very faint.
Bottom line... don't miss this great morning drama, featuring the waning crescent moon and the planets Venus, Mars and Jupiter! Just before dawn, you’d be able to view the show, weather permitting. Now that October was here, the days are getting shorter for us here in the northern hemisphere, so the sun rises around 7 a.m. This provides a chance for us to check out this dazzling, predawn celestial view. If it was summertime, the sun would have already risen.
Three edge set stones within a nearby field boundary may be contemporary and represent part of a stone row. View from south east.

I wanted to see if they line up and fit evenly. They didn't!!! I can't believe how badly made parts of this kit are, I'll have to cut off some of the alignment pins and force some of it into alignment as I glue it.
