Former alignment of the road, left behind in the 1930s widening of this road to 4 lanes.
Eastbound. The road curved north here to cross a railroad track (since removed), and then curved east again and flowed into US 40's current path.
With a laser mounted in the center of the secondary, we can bounce it off the center of the primary (with a special plug inserted for this purpose) to see both how well the secondary is pointed at the primary, as well as how co-linear they are. This is important to make sure the telescope is in focus.
A section of the Kermario alignments at the Carnac complex in Brittany. Notice the strictly linear aspect of the layout. It's almost a kilometre long, running in a southwest to northeast diagonal aspect. The alignments consist of seven main lines and three partial rows with a sum total of 1029 megaliths.

Part of the Great Alignments, this portion is looking west. This area is fenced in, but on the side of the road.
Here's my 'Heath Robinson' way of setting the initial steering alignment. I strapped two 8 foot lengths of timber to the wheels with bungees. I then set the steering wheel to straight ahead and then aligned by eye the offside timber with the rear wheel. I then adjusted the nearside tie rod until the two lengths of timer was parallel. I also checked both timbers were parallel with the chassis rails. It may not be perfect but it will certainly be good enough until I can drive the car have it set up professionally.

Car wheel alignment can (roughly) be measured by dropping a line from the edge of the tire to the ground. Measuring the distance between opposite tires will give the toe-in distance.
The Carnac alignments were constructed in the Neolithic era, between the 5th and 3rd centuries BC. This area, 1 of 9 sections here, has 1050 stones.
