After getting the azimuth polar alignment done, I focus on a star near the Western horizon, but still near the celestial equator. I then correct the angle of the mount relative to the ground - the altitude - until the mount can track the Western star for about 5 minutes with minimal drift.

The provided cover is from National Geographic, illustrating a young woman from Afghanistan and is a classic example of the use of alignment in graphic design.
The use of alignment is visible throughout the design. The picture is centered within the yellow field, creating an easily identifiable brand and background for whatever image is used in the cover.
The main titles and magazine information are center aligned, while the table of contents are aligned image left.
As the eye is drawn through the image, the table of contents is easily parsed without breaking the beauty of the image behind it.

A picture perfect, clear winter's day sunset over the Monterey Bay! This was at Marina State Beach in Marina, CA.
It was that special time again when I made a road trip to the beach. This time, I went south to Marina State Beach in Marina, CA. I've always been going up north to S.F. and I miss going south towards Monterey. Since gas was cheap and there was no coastal fog or clouds hugging the coastline, I was encouraged to make this trip... a trip to see a clear sunset by the sea! It's been a while since I've seen the sun itself actually clearly touch the ocean horizon.
The weather was pleasant and there was hardly any wind. There were big waves, however! Apparently, I have came during the 'king tide'. The king tides occur when the earth, moon and sun are aligned at perigee and perihelion, resulting in the largest tidal range seen over the course of a year.
After taking in the views and snapping pics, I then enjoyed the climax of the trip...a sunset by the sea! After the sunset, I was about to leave (I even turned on my car). However, I saw the moon and Venus up above over the dusk skies, so why not stay for some astronomy shots, too! So I went back out and I managed to capture an alignment of the moon, Mars and Venus (which I also forgot about)! The heavenly alignment above the Monterey Peninsula below was a dazzling sight... It was a great day...

Really poor rendering of the alignment on the front of a Ural. The alignment bars would stick out in front of the front wheel and the opposite side. The measurement would be taken from inside point to inside point between the two alignment bars.
The former two-lane alignment of US 84 East, now officially designated as "MS 184" east outside of the city corporate limits of Brookhaven in rural northeastern Lincoln County, Mississippi.
If you look closely up ahead on the left side of the road, you can see a narrow strip of the original Brookhaven to Monticello Road, a part of the original alignment of US 84 before the road was rerouted slightly and was widened for larger vehicles.
This road was also a part of the original "MS 22" in 1932 before the newer US 84 was extended through southern Mississippi in 1934.
