Just when I was ready to plant my palm trees (global warming and all that), we get a serious dump of snow!
My husband calls these "red squirrels" or "tree rats" - technically they are eastern fox squirrels. They can be cute, but also destructive and annoying. Photogenic little buggers, though.
This one was watching me from the U shaped junction of two tree branches.

This was seen on a city street in Madrid, Spain.
Sat nicely with crest slightly raised. You hear these birds all the time but rarely see them closely. Their song is beautiful, the sound of an English summer day.

After catching this rerouted Modoc train earlier in the morning up at Cougar, California, I was able to get ahead of it at Hotlum siding, just 13 rail miles away. This EURGM, an Oregon lumber drag, rolls past my camera at Hotlum, California in July 1988.

It has been a week since I have seen this fox in the neighbor’s backyard but I looked out the back door again and there it was.

Having scattered Critter Mix that contains lots of nuts and corn away from the Goodie Bowls in hopes of attracting some of the neighborhood Blue Jays, it seems to have more or less worked.
However, the squirrels found and ate most of it, so when the Blue Jays finally showed up it was poor pickings.

hit it again, the drift slowed the rotary, so another assault on the drift was needed, the second time th rotary made quick work of the drift., just wet of .Glenham, South Dakota, about 2 miles east of here, another huge drift did win.. the rotary lost, derailing in a bringing an end to the plowing for the day. it needed to dug out and re-railed in the dark

I had left my photo of the day to the last minute so luckily Sock stayed when I asked him too and I was able to get a quick shot of him.
Not a huge fan of the lighting but it works for a quick picture.
