That storm wrecked our town. Power out for 11 hours. Trees down everywhere. Roads closed, houses damaged, emercency vehicles up and down the street all night, work crews, tree removal guys. And our sad tree lying in the lake. We are thankful it wasn't worse. Phew. There's lots to be done.

The first few months of 2011 saw Australia experience some of the worst natural disasters on record. Floods in southern Queensland stole lives and devastated large parts of the state, while further north Cyclone Yasi battered many communities. Victoria experienced its worst flooding in decades, and in the Kimberley, widespread flooding caused mass evacuations of homes.

Aftermath of an early morning single vehicle car accident in the New Vernon section of Harding Township, New Jersey.
March 4, 2012. At approximately 2:00am a white BMW sped through the intersection of Spring Valley Road and Dickson's Mill Road in New Vernon. The driver failed to slow down a 90-degree t-shaped intersection, knocking down an electric and telephone utility pole and then crashing through a steel guard rail. The automobile came to rest only about 10 feet from a private residence. No other details are yet available.
