This is an ox from Rajasthan.

Those Indian cattle with distinctively large horns are the Kankrej breed. For more info, read en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kankrej_cattle_and_Guzerat_cattle.

Those oxes with very large horns belonged to the ISKCON Ashram (aka the "Hare Krishna"). They were used to pull their cart around the Kumbh Mela grounds.

Detail of memorial stick with Native American offerings on the site of Captain Jack's Stronghold, in the Lava Beds National Monument (California).

This unofficial indigenous memorial commemorates an episode of the Modoc war, where a small Native American band led by Modoc chief "Captain Jack" resisted a large organized army force, before being eventually taken and killed. The natives used the natural features of the lava beds to defend their stronghold.

This calf has two extra legs attached to the top of her neck. This is a birth defect called Polymelia, where conjoint twins starts developing but one twin degenerated completely except for one or more limbs, which end up attached to the other twin.

With cows, the one or two extra limbs are often attached to the top of the cow's neck. This extra legs are shrunken, deformed and non-functional, and they get strange long nails (since the nails on normal cow legs get worn by walking).

In India, when a calf is born with extra leg or two, this is like winning the jackpot: those 5 legged and 6 legged cows are seen are very holy, and the owner will parade them around and receive donations from Hindu devotees.

These two calves (one with 5 legs, and the other one with 6 legs) were transported around the city in a specially designed motor rickshaw, covered with images of the famous "Sai Baba" (not sure why).

A steam locomotive operator is adjusting the hydrostatic lubricator of a steam locomotive, at the Darjeeling train yard (India)

The purpose of this mechanical lubricator is to control the flow of lubricant (oil) that is injected into the steam that feeds the cylinders.

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, locally known as the "Toy Train", is a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge railway that runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling (India). It is still operated by vintage British-built B Class steam locomotives. Street kids - Delhi (India)

Those two kids (maybe brother and sister) are learning life in the streets, not in a school, and they seemed pretty smart and resourceful. It's sad to see kids abandoned to themselves, but those two were savvy enough to survive without getting into too much troubles.

Near this market located just behind the Jama Masjid Mosque, there are empty lots were very poor family live in makeshift camps. They probably live there.

Khasi woman preparing her Betel nuts (India)

The woman is removing the husk of an Areca nut.

The Areca nut is then wrapped with Betel leaf and chewed for its exhilarating lift. Betel chewing has been claimed to produce a sense of well-being, euphoria, heightened alertness, sweating, salivation, a hot sensation in the body and increased capacity to work.

Just like alcohol, tobacco, coffee and sakau, Areca nut and Betel leaf are culturally-approved psychoactive drugs.

The Areca nut, by association, is sometimes inaccurately called the "Betel nut" or "Betel Quids".

Couple buying beef organs at a meat market (India)

It may sound strange, but in some regions of India, people do eat cows.

I took this series of photos in a village in the East Khasi Hills, a region of the Meghalaya State in North-East India, inhabited by the Khasi people. Khasi people were animist but most converted to Christianity, and they do eat beef.

In this village, several meat shops were selling beef meat and they displayed the severed heads of the slaughtered cows on the ground in front of their shop. They have no fridges so the animals are slaughtered early in the morning, and all the fresh meat and organs must be sold by the end of the day.

I took this photo at a cattle market I stumbled upon on the road in West Bengal (India).

It was a very hot day, and I was so happy they were making fresh squeezed cane sugar juice. This juice was very good and also very cheap and I think I had at least 2 liters of it. The machine was installed on a motorized tricycle.

Harishchandra Ghat is one of the Burning Ghats of Varanasi, where the dead are cremated day and night on the bank of the Ganges river.

The corpse of the deceased is wrapped in a shroud. You can see the head (in the yellow shroud).

The corpse is burned on a funeral pyre, until only ashes remain. Then, the ashes are thrown in the Ganges river. The process takes about 3 hours.

Photographer with a large format chamber camera taking a picture of one of the Sailing Stones on the Racetrack dry lake in Death Valley (California)

Sailing stones are rocks that move in long tracks on the smooth and perfectly flat surface of a dry lake, without human or animal intervention. The rocks are most likely propelled by strong winds while entrapped in floating ice sheets (or icebergs), after winter rains flooded the dry lake and made the mud soft and slippery.

Lava tube cave in the Lava Beds National Monument (California).

This one was called "Catacombs", and there was a sign indicating that it was closed due to "possibly unsafe conditions". I think that they are just afraid that visitors could get lost, since this lava tube has a maze of branches and is rather large.

Road construction (Vietnam)

1) put some wood between the barrels of asphalt and start a fire so that the asphalt will melt and become liquid. If no wood is available, use anything that can burn, like old tires. Bonus points if you can burn something really toxic.

2) When the asphalt start melting, scoop some at the top and pour it on the wood. Asphalt burns well, so this will help melting the rest of the asphalt.

3) Repeat step 2 until the asphalt in entirely melted in the barrels. This will take several hours and produce a really nice plume of toxic smoke. If you are lucky, you will only need to burn 30% of your asphalt to melt the rest, so you have 70% asphalt left to spread on the road.

Bamboo bridge near Mawlynnong in the East Khasi Hills, in Meghalaya (India)

When rivers are too wide to grow living root bridges across them, the Khasi people build foot bridges with bamboo and rattan (they use no nylon rope or metal wire, it is 100% organic).

This bamboo bridge has a span of more than 20 meters (60 feet) and passes 10 meters (30 feet) above a river. They need to rebuild the bridge every few years because it gets rotten.
