Bemo (Jakarta)
Bemo is short for "Becak Motor" which means "Auto Rickshaw" in Indonesian. Bemo's are public transportation vehicles (i.e. shared taxis).
Those old Three-wheeler Bemos have been banned from Jakarta because they cause a lot of pollution and are old and noisy, and dangerous, but they are still used in parts of Jakarta.
Those are the last surviving Daihatsu Midget I model bemos. The Last year of production was 1972.

The Bihlangna valley, in the back on the photo, is now flooded by the Tehri reservoir (India)
The Tehri dam (on the right) is the highest dam in India and one of the highest in the world.
It is hard to imagine that right there, on this photo, deep under the artificial lake, just at the bottom on the dam, there is a submerged city (Tehri, now called "Old Tehri") that was the provincial capital, with a population of about 25,000. The people from Old Tehri have been relocated to New Tehri, a planned city built on the mountain above the dam.
The Tehri Dam was (and still is) a very controversial project, as it flooded two valleys resulting in the destruction of numerous villages and a town (Tehri), all now submerged, and forced the relocation of about 100,000 people.
For more photos and info about the controversial Tehri Hydro Power project, go to the Tehri Dam & Lake photo series.

The construction of the giant hamster wheel called "Mayan TRIcycle".
For more info, go to www.facebook.com/MayanTricycle
Unfortunately this installation had some problems and it had to be closed for most of the week, becoming a static piece..
Mayan TRIcycle Crew Captain Atagirl wrote: The reason we closed the TRIke was because the wood was drier than anticipated after being in the desert for a week prior to the opening of the event and it was splinting off as the TRIke spun around. We wanted more citizens to have an opportunity to see the TRIke in action and possibly ride on it, especially our donors who helped to fund the project. Thus, we reopened it on Friday. We estimate we had approximately 3,000 citizens "take a ride" on the TRIke over the three days it was open.

Warzone? no, this is just the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations in Chinatown (San Francisco)
Each year, late on the night of the Chinese New Year, chaos erupts in the heart of Chinatown. An insane amount of very illegal firecrackers and fireworks are lit-up and detonated in the streets. The air fills-up with thick, rancid, toxic smoke. Sparks and rockets fly randomly in all directions. The local Police knows that they cannot stop the madness, so they prefer to stay away. Participants are highly advised to wear ear and eyes protection.
This unoficial event dubbed "Chinatown Bang" attracts local Chinese Americans as well as members of the San Francisco Cacophony Society. After running out of ammunitions, participants celebrate the Chinese lunar new year in local bars.

This calf has an extra leg attached to the top of her neck. This is a birth defect called Polymelia, where conjoint twins starts developing but one twin degenerated completely except for one or more limbs, which end up attached to the other twin.
With cows, the one or two extra limbs are often attached to the top of the cow's neck. This extra legs are shrunken, deformed and non-functional, and they get strange long nails (since the nails on normal cow legs get worn by walking).
In India, when a calf is born with extra leg or two, this is like winning the jackpot: those 5 legged and 6 legged cows are seen are very holy, and the owner will parade them around and receive donations from Hindu devotees.
These two calves (one with 5 legs, and the other one with 6 legs) were transported around the city in a specially designed motor rickshaw, covered with images of the famous "Sai Baba" (not sure why).

Oobleck, a non-newtonian fluid made with cornstarch and waterThe artists who created this installation are Alex, Mary, and Max.
Corn strarch and water (plus some optional green food coloring) creates a strange thick non-newtonian fluid called Oobleck. When stress is applied to the liquid it exhibits properties of a solid, i.e. its viscosity increases tremendously. A hammer will bounce on it, but you can sink your hand into it with no effort if you do it slowly. it's really fun to play with, and you can do the mix in your kitchen! (i discovered the strange properties of this mix when i was a kid, playing in the kitchen).
Check this very amusing video showing what you can do with a pool filled-up with this liquid. Just like Jesus, you can walk on the liquid!
