I actually remembered my mat for the yoga class that I occasionally make time for on Tuesdays. I would love to pretend that I am a faithful participant. It is a good class, but I haven't been able to go for a while. Like before finals season (the time that leads up to finals and paper writing as well as the due dates and week of pain itself) of last semester (I could have just said months, but it lacked the flavor of describing finals season).

Anyway, I've missed it. I like that it isn't your usual yoga class. In Nashville at least, yoga is a trendy young-people pursuit. Or maybe now that is just hot yoga. Anyway, this class is not just trendy young-people. I would say that today's class could legitimately have ranged 4 generations.

It actually snowed in Mississippi on Christmas day, although there was no accumulation on the ground. Jeff, Brad and I went over to St. Francis Hospital in Memphis to visit our father who is currently in rehabilitation. He was checked into the hospital after hitting his head and during routine tests they discovered fluid around his lungs. My father suffers from Multiple System Atrophy, a degenerative neurological disorder associated with the degeneration of nerve cells in specific areas of the brain. This cell degeneration causes problems with movement, balance and other autonomic functions of the body such as bladder control or blood pressure regulation. Like most people who suffer from MSA, he was first incorrectly diagnosed as having Parkinson's disease. The average lifespan upon diagnosis is 9 years. It is hard to watch as my Dad deteriorates, but he was the reason I made it back home this Christmas. Because I don't expect to have too many more with him.

Actually, the trainer was just dressing down after the parade - removing ribbons and do-bobs that are entwined in their manes for show.

One of the things that Budweiser does well, is to keep this awesome breed in the mind of the public. Everybody loves to see the Clydesdales - but not too many would be willing to take one home and feed it.. When I see animals like these, it reminds me of the misguided point of view that some people have of man's use of animals for work or entertainment. If it weren't for mankind's fascination - or use for an animal - it's days would be numbered on this planet.

No - I don't think animals were put here exclusively for our use - but in the real world we live in now, large animals especially are doomed if we don't take care of them in one way or another. Even if it's by simply setting aside enough room for them to survive - and that's no small thing these days.

People think it's cruel to eat beef - but if we didn't, it wouldn't be long, and there would be no cattle at all. It's a fine balance, but man doesn't share well with other animals if they don't provide something in return. Unfortunately for the cattle, it's usually in the form of beef. But it's also true for dogs and cats. If they didn't provide us with companionship and affection, it wouldn't be long before they all ended up in Chow Mein or disappeared altogether.

Clydesdales are lucky, in that we love them simply for their regal bearing and impressive stature. All we ask is that they behave themselves, and pull a little red wagon down the street two or three times a week.. I think they would agree that it's a great deal, in return for care and feeding, and a nice warm, safe stable every night..

Actually on one of the obscure railway bridges near Walthamstow Marsh

“Actually, it was only part of myself I wanted to kill: the part that wanted to kill herself, that dragged

me into the suicide debate and made every window, kitchen implement, and subway station a rehearsal

for tragedy.”

Actually, waiting for my friend Paola, and I thought I´d take a few shots of the cathedral on the Plaza de Armas while I was at it.

Actually it's not the whole hill that's soggy and boring. Well, it's all soggy, so far as I can make out, but the lower slopes at least are quite interesting, if you can call getting your feet soaked interesting. There's a lot of industrial archeology hidden under the long grass and bracken, if you know where to look. The Caldbeck Commons were a hive of industry way back when. So not entirely boring.

Anyway, it's the upper part of the hill that's boring. It's just an interminable stretch of gently sloping, moist (well, soggy, really) long grass and bracken and stuff, leading eventually, if you have the patience, to a rather boring summit. The views from the top will be good, but you can get equally good views from the slopes on the way up, so it's pointless trudging up just to get the same view from a bit higher up.

Normally I feel challenged by the top of a hill, and feel impelled to keep climbing until I reach it, so that I can take a photo of my boots with a trig point behind them or something. But this thing just made me groan with ennui, and I finally came to the conclusion that since nobody was paying me to do it, nor was I trying to win any medals for collecting every wainwright in the books, there wasn't much point going all the way to the top, (in my boots full of water) when I could be trudging downwards instead.

Actually taken on my girlfriends Lumix LX3.

This came out while editing, and i like the effect.
