Shot of the Icefields Parkway in Alberta Canada leading into mountainous terrain. Actually, the whole 230 km parkway from Lake Louise to Jasper was basically a continuous ride through beautiful mountain scenery. Most scenic ride I have ever been on!

Actually called Carr Head rocks on the maps but you can see where it gets it's name from. You can see the Cement works at Castleton in the background.

Finally a new photograph

I was actually there earlier that day to take pictures but every single spot of this infamous palace which was made more famous by the famed "The Last Emperor" was cramped with local tourists. So I decided to return later that afternoon hoping that people have dwindled as admission closes. Had to find a place where crowd was less and was lucky enough to get a bonus from this setting sun.

Built from 1406 to 1420, The Forbidden City was the home for he Emperors of Ming and Qing Dynasties. For almost five centuries, of course, it was also the home of the Emperors' household and also served as the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government.

It consists of 980 surviving buildings with 8,707 bays of rooms that covers 720,000 square meters. The palace complex exemplifies traditional Chinese palatial architecture that influenced cultural and architectural developments in East Asia and elsewhere.

Well, actually it's a little Eastern Amberwing dragonfly. They are very small and like most dragonflies, lightening fast.

There were lots of them zipping about and luckily this tiny branch seemed to be a favorite landing spot. Still not the most accessible spot being way down at the water's edge, but I watched and waited - hoping one would land long enough for me to grab a shot or two.

Seen during a recent visit to a nearby arboretum. *** And yes, it's still facing the wrong way and too far away, but beggars can't be choosers.

I'm posting one from the archive, a few years ago actually. I remember this day was quite extraordinary because of the menacing clouds. The beach is Cahoon Hollow beach on Cape Cod, which I'm partial to and always revisiting.

Today it looks like we got some snow! I'm anticipating some winter photos (finally).

Actually on the outside looking in

This Pea Hen was pecking at seed on the floor, when some thing to her left caught her attention, i had been waiting for her to turn around.

Modern art galleries and museums have always wanted to tell a story in the usual fashion of linear history. So as a rule rooms in galleries tended to be set out in historical periods or particular styles. The contemporary curator however eschews all that, throws everything into the mix and allows the viewer to piece together their own story.

Now this is all very well for the informed art lover, but can be very confusing to those who have never studied art history. It's a sink or swim model, and the jury is still out on whether this approach is going to be successful.

This section of the QVMAG was recently renovated to allow for more works to be shown from the very large collection that Launceston has built up over 200 years (the settlement itself was founded in 1806). One problem for photographers is that the light intensity has been reduced to 40 lumens per square metre (for example a 60 watt light bulb provides 800 lumens per square metre). This is so the works are not damaged by excess light. But it does make getting good photographs of the works very difficult indeed. This photograph, for instance, appears much brighter than the lighting actually was.

Actually, a False Shamrock, part of the Wood Sorrel species (Oxalis Regnellii.) Learn something new every day.

Thanks for Viewing.

Actually looking at this, I see why I *had* to take it - the layout of the folds and her markings and the sheet/comforter markings has fabulous lines to it. And Kitty smile. After I took this she put her paw over her eyes to block light so I’m glad I grabbed the cell pic rather than try to get the camera. Oh, and this hasn't been in Happy Caturday and with the 6 February 2021 theme "A Winter's Nap"... I guess it is now!

Actually no! ... rather, hoodoos and table rocks found at the Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness in New Mexico ... but just maybe with the remoteness of this place - this is where they secretly land.

Actually, the scientific name for this Robin is rather interesting:

" Turdus migratorius".............

Regardless, it's nice to see them back here (although many do not migrate!!).

Click to enlarge for even more fun, and details!!

Thanks for looking, etc.:)

Actually this picture is exactly what I aim with photography. Just put into the picture.

I actually ended up in a fight with this bear (or one of his siblings). It was between 3 and 4 in the morning and I was sleeping. I woke up by some noises. It turned out to be this bear that was curious about the "window" where I have the camera when I take pictures. When the window is not in use, a small field cloth covers the window. The bear had started to pull on this piece of cloth. I was afraid it would manage to rip it off. Then the bear and I would have been standing almost nose to nose. So, I pulled the cloth to get it back and the bear pulled again on his side. We went on like that for a little while. Luckily, it got bored or gave up. But for a little while there I was very scared and thought it would actually get in. At least with his head. And what if more of the bears joined him…. That was the only time I was scared though. This, despite how close I was to other bigger bears later. I have posted pictures of this before.

Thank you everyone who has taken the time to view, fave or comment on my photo. It is very much appreciated.

Actually - Mount Ngauruhoe, used as a stand-in for the fictional Mount Doom in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Taken on a glorious day during one of my trips to Waihohonu last year.

This is actually a test shot taken on the phone. When I thought I would use the glass straws I got my DSLR out to recreate it and I couldn't quite get there again. I didn't like any of the other compositions and light patterns, although they only differed slightly from the original. So I have to go with the phone image.

As I only show the bent bit of the straws (isn't it a funny name for a glass item?) I am well within the allowed 3". I have placed them on striped paper and increased contrast, decreased saturation and made it darker. It was fun to try all sorts of paper patterns, stripes definitely worked best.

Actually I am sure this is a Little Black Cormorant but I could not find any information on the blue skin under its beak. I suppose this is a breeding bird but why none of the books or websites I consulted mentions this blue colour as a breeding sign?

I posted this question on Australian Bird Identification FB page yesterday but no comments so far. I wonder if somebody please may shed more light on this blue colouring?

Or is this something that every Australian child knows and I shouldn't be asking? (-;

actually this is just a word play, since the plate is from the series Manufacture Rock from Villeroy und Boch.

Same plate differnt day , different light, light shaped by the railings of my balcony, one photo with an addidional reflector zebra gold and silver.

It's actually remnants of a Moon Snail's shell. I found it while collecting seashells at Sanibel Island in Florida several years ago. This theme is a wonderful challenge: it wasn't until I had been looking for a pareidolia for a few days until I remembered this shell!

photo size: 2.37"W by 1.52"H and 6.03cm W by 3.87cm H

Theme: "Pareidolia" The human brain can create meaningful and significant shapes from patterns and textures. Take a photo of a pareidolia you perceive.

Thank you for taking the time to view this photo, and for the faves and comments you make, thank you.

Actually the President himself was at the Appalachian Homecoming Festival and I took his picture. This guy really looked like Mr. Lincoln. I liked the profile shot the best.

Sorry I've not been around much. Family came to visit and lots to do and still doing. Take care my friends and have a fabulous week. I'll catch up with you all soon!

Actually, one could spend many hours in the pretty little town of Mahone Bay, browsing the quaint little shops and cafes....a great place to find artwork and jewellry, antiques and nautical treasures, and the best shoe store around! We arrived at dark and Wayne stopped for coffee so I grabbed a chance to capture the calm scene across the road.

It's actually true that our sole reason for going to the Lone Tree was just because it was a convenient place to meet. We had no intention of trying to take a shot of it on this occasion. We thought we had better places to go. But it didn't make any difference with the front row blocked out and I decided to take this shot as much to prove you don't have to block everyone else out by putting your tripod in the water in front of the tree preventing everyone else getting a shot. The mist didn't develop and the sky didn't become much more interesting so we didn't bother to hang about and went looking for other interesting trees.

... it's actually a Penguin ; ))

Macro Mondays - theme: keychain

Part of a key chain pendant that comes with additional benefits: the feet and wings of the penguin can be used as a bottle opener. I bought it at an outdoor supplier some time ago to use it as a gift, but it's still here : ))

see here for the full size of the penguins:

Happy Macro Monday, everyone !

Spider was not big at all, but think it looks it in this photo.

Purple card was placed behind it to create a back drop.

Here is a similar one using Black card.

I think coloured cards are really useful for photographing insects, spiders, flowers and such.

perf, gold, macro award.

Well, actually the Gardenias in our yard are starting to show signs of slowing down a bit now that summer is just around the corner.

This bloom came from one of the bushes in our backyard. Didn't want it to feel slighted since the previous bloom came from one of the bushes in the front yard. Afterall, everyone wants their moment in the spotlight.

Actually I just wanted to cross the street. On my way through Madrid City. Within a fraction of a second I decided to photograph him. His surprised look says it all. I thanked him very kindly and moved on.

I have actually never seen a black skimmer at work. I've seen them in large groups on the beach but never skimming. This was a first. While getting images was important to me, I felt that just seeing them doing their thing was the most satisfying. I wish I had been closer with better light but there's always something that could be better.

Photographed at John Chesnut Senior Park, Palm Harbor, Florida.

Thanks for visiting and for your faves and comments.

Actually, I have no idea what kind of fish this Great Blue Heron is about to swallow, but it resembles a little shark and I thought it made a catchy title.

We found this successful GBH near Port Aransas, Texas.

After trips to Texas and Arizona this year, I have a sizeable inventory of bird images built up, so I'll be posting a few of them in the coming days.

Actually were all swimming downward.

Monterey Bay Aquarium

I actually prefer this picture over the first.

Actually, not a very safe spot for cats to cross the street. East 1st Avenue, Vancouver. November 8, 2020.

Actually no weather to take pictures in the Värmland's snowy woods in Sweden. Too cloudy, dark and too much snowfall. And then it became foggy, too. And suddenly the mood became a kind of mystical. It was worth just a trial.

Actually its not and it wouldn't be right to say, that it's just a hotel.

i like how the leading lines are crooked and give some weird dimension to the photo.

we're all mad here.

actually ... just under my feet

Actually a windy morning at the Badlands in South Dakota. The bleak land gets it name for the terrain and I can understand when you think about the early settlers of our country that travelled across it.

Like most parrots Rainbow Lorikeets generally mate for life, and if conditions allow can reproduce three times annually!

actually two of them and a Horned Lark underneath

Sunny but what a wind, not a day to be on your bike. Actually, it felt dangerous and I was glad when we were back home.

HFF!

actually there is no processing with the book, it is raw. the rest of the photo is processed.

Actually it won't be the destination. This will be about midway on the walk from Craster to the Grey's Inn in Embleton, but we might as well go this way as it is quite scenic and the walk and sea air gives you a great thirst.

Actually, just two one legged geese.

Actually, it continued to snow for eight hours after this photo was taken.

actually there are many many more

Actually dried up waterfalls at Bluestem Lake

..i wanted to photograph butterflies...it turned out to be a Haflinger!

I actually took this shot 4 years ago. Going through my archives I looked at it again and decided I kind of liked how the tree frames the bridge on one side and the boathouse on the other.

Processed in Photomatix & Photoshop.

C&C appreciated.
