actually, my dinner at Class 302, a cute little diner themed like a taiwanese classroom. 'students' eat at little school desks and food is served in metal lunch box cannisters. the decor is complete with a big chalkboard and other classroom-like items on the wall.

Not actually a cathedral but, like the so-called "German Cathedral" across the Gendarmenmarkt Square and the nearby "Berlin Cathedral", the result of the mistranslation of the German word "Dom" which, generally speaking, does mean "cathedral".
More formally, it is the "French Church in the Friedrichstadt" and was built to serve the French Calvinist community in Berlin which in the 18th century made up about a quarter of the population of the city.
The earliest parts of the building date back to the early 18th century. It was modified in 1785 by Carl von Gontar who added the domed tower which gave rise to its popular name.
Opposite the French Church is the externally very similar German Church.
All the buildings on the Gendarmenmarkt suffered major bomb damage during the allied raids on Berlin in 1945. In 1969 little if any repair work had been undertaken. Rebuilding was undertaken between 1977 and 1981.
To the left of the Church. the statue of a lion on the back of which rides a cherub playing double pipes, flanks the stone stairs leading to the main entrance of the Concert House, built 1818-21 as the Theatre Royal.

"Leaving on a Jet Plane" was written in 1966 by John Denver (published in 1969). It's most remembered sung by Peter, Paul and Mary.

Dane: “There’s a whole album, actually. I found it at the vinyl shop a few blocks over from the flat. They had another copy, if you want a physical one for your collection. Otherwise, I’ll just rip mine for you.”
Charley: *lowers the headphones* “I would love to drop by and grab a copy, but I’m going to be slammed this week.”
Dane: “The bake sale. I haven’t forgotten.”
Charley: *groans, covering her face* “I wish I could forget. I know it was my idea to go to Yuri, and I don’t regret it, but she is intense.”
Dane: “That’s one word for it.”
Charley: “I’m just glad we waited until the end of the school year. At least I don’t have actual classes to teach on top of everything else. But I need to start planning my lessons for next year, and there’s a new curriculum to learn for the high school kids. Also, I have tutoring for the school’s summer program as well as outreach at the community center. Danny wants to add another practice per week, and I still haven’t finished the required reading for book club, and the meeting is tomorrow night...” *starts to twist hair aggressively around her finger*
Dane: *squeezes her knee* “Breathe, Chuck, and tell me what I can do to help—other than pick you up a copy of Joey in the Hole, because that’s a done deal.”
Charley: *removes the headphones and sits up, curling her legs underneath* “Really? You don’t mind checking to see if the shop still has a copy for me?”
Dane: *tucks Charley’s hair behind her ear, gives her an ‘obviously-I-don’t-mind-at-all-I’d-do-anything-for-you-duh-you’re-really-dense’ look*
Charley: *faint smile* “Thanks.”
Dane: “You’re going to start the baking on Wednesday, yeah?”
Charley: *nods* “We’re using my kitchen and Yuri’s, primarily, but Kumi, Candy, and Emma have offered theirs to us, too. Yuri’s already visited each kitchen to assure they meet her cleanliness standards. She missed her calling. She’d make a great health inspector.”
Dane: *begins rifling through Danny’s vinyl collection* “I expect Yuri would make a great anything and everything, if she were so inclined.”
Charley: “She’s amazing. She got all the permits required for the event. She managed to secure so many donations that we hardly needed to pony-up any cash at all, and the stuff we did have to buy, Yuri used her own money. I’m just nervous I won’t live up to her expectations once we start baking.”
Dane: “You were upfront with her that you didn’t bake much. Besides, you’ve got Molly in your corner, and she can definitely bake. She sent something called hummingbird cake back to our place with Caid, and we inhaled it in about thirty seconds flat. She even impressed Dillon, and you know he’s picky.”
Charley: “Yeah, I’m really lucky to have both Molly and Dillon helping out. Molly can outbake just about anyone, and Dillon’s pastries are incredible. I don’t even like sweets, and I’ll eat his stuff. The way he mixes flavors is crazy. It shouldn’t work, but it always does…” *shakes head, mystified*
Dane: “Well, you certainly get enough chances to sample. He bakes at your place more than ours.”
Charley: “That’s because the stove at you guys’ place only has two working burners and an oven that won’t preheat past three-fifty. *grabs Dane’s phone, turns off music, expression agitated* I just feel like I started this whole bake sale thing, so I should be pulling my own weight, not depending on everyone else.”
Dane (patiently): “Charley, you always pull your own weight, and then some. The trick with you is getting you to ask for and/or accept help in the first place. Molly and Dillon seem dead chuffed to help, and so does Yuri.”
Charley: *noncommittal noise*
Dane: “Candy’s already cleared her schedule this week, and the guys and I are at your disposal. Caid often helped his grandmother bake, and Dillon’s a pastry savant, so they’ll probably be the most useful. Dan and I can fold boxes or wash pans. We all want to help. It’s for a good cause…and it’s for you.”
Charley: *looks at Dane, appreciation palpable* “Thanks. I’ll probably need a few more talk downs before this whole thing is finished. It is really getting to me. It makes me feel useless and out of control…and I’m not good with either.”
Dane: “I’m here for you. Anything you need.” *reaches up, brushes Charley’s cheek with his thumb*
Charley: *presses her cheek into his hand*

Actually it was named Doleman Street Junction at the time this was taken. 5M44 11.38 Willesden Railnet - Tonbridge is seen crossing over from the Atlantic Lines to the main Chatham tracks just before Brixton as the morning's sun is threatened with immediate extinction by the rapidly building cloud. Actually found something old in Japan. Had to go up into the hills to find it though. There is actually a lot of old stuff around, just none in the city that is readily shootable.
Actually, I'm not a huge fan of candy canes. That's the reason these ones still have the wrappers on -- they will be added to my nephew's Christmas stockings! In any case, Christmas is almost here, and candy cane shots and hearts are very cliche. Happy Cliche Saturday!
actually not a totally random table scrap. It will have its place in my new microscale city. At least, I hope so.
First time I've actually seen one of these....
The garganey is a scarce and very secretive breeding duck in the UK. It is smaller than a mallard and slightly bigger than a teal. The male is most easily recognised with a broad white stripe over the eye. In flight it shows a pale blue forewing. It feeds by 'dabbling'. Garganeys are listed as a Schedule 1 species.

This is what I look like when you try and take my picture.
This is my "IM IN UR NETWORK, TAKIN AWAY ALL UR ACCESS" face. Complete with bandana so I look even more like a bandit. (And yes, if you are wondering, the sad panda sits on my lap during the entire duration of my shift.)
Alright so let me introduce you to my workspace:
On the far left would be my brand spanking new (okay, it's not new, it's used and old and really dirty) laptop with a finger print reader which is apparently a big deal. The wallpaper is no longer the Windows XP Bliss default but rather a picture of a companion cube because as all of you know, I am a nerd. You are already introduced to my Hello Kitty Cisco IP phone. Above the phone would be my gallery of "Melissa and (insert attractive man here)". Some of these men include: Nathan, Jesse, Rod and Dave 1 of ChromeoooOOOOoooo. The "SURREY'S MOST WANTED" sign is a memoir of my desktop team lead which resulted me in stepping up my game. A Sailor Mars key chain. My workhorse rig with the three monitors is a Windows machine and a Fedora machine teamed up to use one mouse and keyboard. (Re: Synergy.)
Oh, and I'm actually sick in this photo. I wasn't trying to be funny, I was trying to be awesome to my coworkers and not spread any diseases.
This guy did the same thing. I'm in the monitor too. *Ghost noises*

Actually, it's only one stilt, captured three times against a dull grey sky. So, there's been some digital doctoring here, but only one bird against a grey background wouldn't have been worth posting, so it was either take the bird to the doctor, or bury him...
Actually, the Bellaire (Ohio) Railroad Viaduct and Elevated Railway. In the movie, UNSTOPPABLE, Denzel Washington works to stop a speeding runnaway train with several cars of toxic chemicals from hitting this curve and derailing, thus releasing it's toxic load on the public of "Stanton, Pa." The climax of the movie was filmed right here in Bellaire, Ohio.
On a side note, I did not know about the movie being filmed here and was really surprised when I saw this in the movie. I know Bellaire very well. It is the birthplace and home of my father before he and my mother married and they moved to the Youngstown Ohio area. As a child, we would take family trips here to visit with my grandparents who had a farm not far from here (where my father grew up). I can remember seeing Steam locomotives pulling trains across this bridge!
I still have family living in this area.

Actually a very funny, over-the-top story about Lobo stumbling onto Santa Claus' lair in the North Pole. Lobo learns that Santa rules his realm like a dictator, treating all his subjects (the elves) with little or no respect. Lobo gets caught up in a battle going toe-to-toe with the madman Santa Claus and much violence ensues.

Actually, I used this photo almost a year ago, making it into an Easter card using fd's Motivator. I decided to add the photo alone, to keep safely here on Flickr and in a larger file size than when used in Motivator. These Tulips, bought at Safeway, were so pretty with their yellow edging. I treated myself to a bunch of roses today, each one a different colour. Hopefully, the sun will shine again tomorrow so that enough light streams through my side window. I know I'm going to need some more bright colour during the next two and a half or three months, LOL! Have a happy, cheery day, everyone !!

From Wikipedia:
Southern Cross (formerly and still colloquially known, as Spencer Street) is a major railway station in Docklands, Melbourne. It is on Spencer Street, between Collins and La Trobe Streets, at the western edge of the central business district. The Etihad Stadium sports arena is 500 metres north-west of the station.
The station is the terminus of the state's regional railway network operated by V/Line, The Overland rail service to Adelaide, and NSW TrainLink XPT services to Sydney. It is also served by suburban rail services operated by Metro Trains, being one of five stations on the City Loop, a mostly underground railway that encircles the Central Business District. It is the second busiest railway station in Melbourne's metropolitan network, with 16.8 million passenger movements recorded in 2011/12. These figures exclude V/Line passengers who use the station.
Southern Cross also has a coach terminal underneath the Spencer Outlet shopping complex. Skybus Super Shuttle services to Melbourne Airport and Sunbus Shuttle services to Avalon Airport operate from there, as well as Firefly Express and Greyhound Australia interstate coach services, and V/Line coach services to Mildura, Yarram, Mansfield, and other parts of Victoria not served by rail.
Opened as Spencer Street Station in 1859, five years after the other major Melbourne rail terminus at Flinders Street, the station was a dead-end terminus, running parallel to Spencer Street,[4] comprised of a single main platform with a dock platform at the north end. It was not until 1874 that an extra platform was provided. The two major city stations were not linked until 1879, when a single-track ground-level line was opened. It operated only at night, and only for freight trains. In the 1880s, it was proposed that Spencer Street station be removed in order to facilitate the westward expansion of the city, but the plan was subsequently rejected.
Southern Cross was redeveloped by the Civic Nexus consortium, following an innovative design by Grimshaw Architects which features an undulating roof. Construction began in October 2002 and was completed in late 2006, with the majority of the transport facilities finished in time for the 2006 Commonwealth Games. The central features of the design include a wave-shaped roof, a new entrance and concourse on Collins Street, a new coach interchange, a new food court, a bar/restaurant, separate retail outlets inside the station and a separate shopping complex between Bourke and La Trobe Streets. This new shopping complex originally comprised a Direct Factory Outlets centre, a Virgin Megastore, along with food courts. This opened on 30 November 2006, although not all tenancies were occupied, and stage 2 was opened in March 2007. In 2009 the DFO relocated to a new site at South Wharf, the shopping centre being refitted by owner Austexx and rebranded simply as "Spencer Street fashion station". In 2013 the shopping complex was rebranded as "Spencer Outlet Centre". In addition to the physical modifications, the station was renamed from Spencer Street to Southern Cross on 13 December 2005.
In May 2014, the historic Water Tower Clock was installed in the concourse of the station.[26] The clock had originally been erected in 1882 at Flinders Street station, opposite the end of Elizabeth Street, atop a lattice tower about 60 feet (18 m) high. In 1902 the clock was moved to Princes Bridge station, and in 1910 it was relocated again, to Spencer Street station, where it remained until it was removed as part of the station's redevelopment in the mid-1960s. The clock mechanism was given to Museum Victoria, but the characteristic turret that housed the clock was sold to a scrap metal merchant. It was later rescued by private collectors, and the clock was returned to public ownership, being put on display in 1999 at the Scienceworks Museum, Spotswood. The clock was extensively restored before its return to Southern Cross, but the original mechanism remains in the collection of Museum Victoria.
There's so much more interesting stuff on Wikipedia. Above being only a few paragraphs I extracted.
Actually, we were heading out and looking back... those are my Jeep tracks. A long drive back to pavement and hoping to make most of it with a little light left. It didn't help that I felt compelled to stop every 2 seconds to take another picture in the late afternoon light. If you look closely, you can see Cadiz Dunes on the horizon. Converted to b&w, a little texture added, and some additional toning for Sliders Sunday.
