Actually, this is a viewing structure overlooking Rainbow Harbor and Shoreline Village in Long Beach, CA near golden hour.
Been away from the camera for a month or so, it feels good to be back...
This is my first Flickr post in a long time. I've been dabbling in semi-pro work. I define semi-pros as those who are being paid something for their work but never enough to cover their costs! (Pros actually make money. ;) One thing that doing semi-pro work has done for is suck the joy out of photography......not the fun.....but the joy. I always enjoy solving problems with the camera, but for the last year, I haven't just gone out with a camera to photograph what I want to photograph...... stuff that I'm not going to sell..... just stuff that makes me go "wow". When I started into photography those were simple things.....flowers, basic landscapes, insects..... stuff that most people don't pay attention to in their daily lives. I would like to get back to that. In the mean time, I'm settling for an adrenaline rush. The Blue Angels are at the Cleveland Air Show this year. I went up a couple of years ago with a 300/2.8. By the end of the day, I had the 1.7 on it and still felt like I could use a little more reach. People ask me sometimes about air show photography. I guess it really depends on what you're trying to to capture. Many photographers don't own anything longer that 200mm. If you are trying to capture aircraft in formations....wider types of scenes....200mm can get the job done nicely. Tighter shots though, require longer glass. I rented a 500/4 from www.lensrentals.com It did indeed give me the reach I was looking for. Even better, the 500/4 was hand holdable for me. The winds were terrible and I don't think the Blue Angels ever flew ( we left early due to the weather) but I was still able to control the lens well enough to get my shots at ISO 400 (very overcast). I'm sure the VR helped too. The big problem with long glass like that is what I call "the rifle scope effect". It takes a couple of seconds to find the subject in the view finder.... two seconds that you often don't have at an air show. I suppose in the end that 400mm would have been the perfect focal length.... but the 400/2.8 is not hand holdable and a 5.6 lens would have been too slow to get the job done on such a dark day. The 500/f4 definitely gets 2 thumbs up as super-tele. However, whether its the right lens for you at an air show depends on a variety of factors...mostly the nature of the shots you want to capture. OK, hope everyone is well.
We actually made it to the burn this year! We didn't sleep through it.

BACKSTORY: Well, that was a crazy burn! So much shit I never expected to do, at WickerMan Burn 2016!
- Damaged Carolyn's car on the way in so that it permanently squeaks, except it got better by the time we left
- Ate a tequila worm (so much more chewing than you would imagine!) when naked-goddess-bartender poured me one, randomly. (I had to check that it wasn't something from the woods)
- Watched fireworks so dangerously close that I needed first aid for a burned eyeball (could this be why the vision in that eye went bad this year?)
- Learned to weave. On a loom. And wove some. Took video of weaving.
- worried about this spleen issue I have that is starting to feel less like a pain, and more like an actual tumor that you can distinctly feel on one side (still hurting as of 2017, CT Scan found nothing)
- controlled huge flamethrowers with laserbeams & buttons
- fun stuff on top of a 20-ft wooden ziggurat art installation (Carolyn was too scared to go up!)
- Watched a firework fireball zoom past Carolyn's head (she didn't even flinch) and catch the ground on fire 1 foot from her feet
- Made out with both members of a couple (beards can be soft?)
- Bounced in a moon bounce
- Saw Carolyn fall off a bounce-house ramp, tumbling in mid air, as onlookers screamed (one massage later, she's fine)
- Played with propane bubbles (cover hand, stick in fire, watch self burn) with zero regard for my safety or even knowing what they were ("other people aren't dying when they do this, so i'll do this, whatever this is. no, i won't ask anybody any questions about it or learn anything safety-related")
- Treated 2nd degree cooking burn with actual aloe leaves someone bundled up, just in case. Only had to walk 20 feet from my camp! No relation to previous bullet point.

- Used logical deduction to guide a damsel in distress to her campsite that she could not find, even though I had never been there. (If you want to flatter me, make me feel like Aragorn. I also accept pints of cherry tomatoes & great conversation)
- Received tons of compliments about my hair & badass cartoon shirt (and about my brain) (but I get that a lot... it's the others I'm not so used to)
- Worried about Andrea in rehab. Did all kinds of crazy things to maintain connectivity to check up on her. A lotta good that did. RIP, Andrea.
- Learned to always great one specific person with "Hi, Clint!" (Her name is not Clint. This is how she prefers greetings.)
- Wore My Little Pony boxer-briefs around strangers
- Sent video from the middle of the woods with a phone that only works when plugged in (tricky)
- Met the creator of games I've played for 15 yrs, & found out that the vintage set of game pieces my aunt found me in a thrift store are so rare that he was re-telling people about our set... Even when we weren't even there. So honored! To tell the man who invented Fluxx thatyou had the original Fluxx back when that was the only Fluxx you could get was awesome, too.
- But to make a reference to a specific episode of 2 Stupid Dogs to the creator of Fluxx, and have him know it and repeat it back... Wow.
- Chastised by Channy for not knowing how to spell my own name on facebook, becuase she wanted pictoral proof of my story that did not believe -- that the deer shit that came out of the deer when my Bonneville was totalled (while driving back from Dirk's) had splattered onto my car in the shape of Pluto the Dog's face. I totally sent her that picture!
- Lost 1 of 2 cameras, resulting in our pictures being quite incomplete (gee, real Burnery of whoever found it to not bother giving it back. If I find someone else's camera, I guess this means I'll have to keep it to break even?)
- Learned I can consistently inhale an entire nitrous oxide cartridge in one lungful
- Randomly given 2 beers by someone, only to ask to see her face, and, after introductions, us all realizing we already know each other already and are FB friends already (wtf?! what are the odds?!)
Saw a truck covered in fire driving down the mountain like nothing was going on. Overheard: "Are you seeing that? Is that real?"
Phew? Did I get everything? I don't know! One night, I never saw my camp during the night time, at all.
Mwila people are an ethnic group living in southern Angola, in the area of Huila. They actually are part of the Nyaneka, a larger ethnic group. According to their oral tradition, they settled down in that area during the 17th century, because of a drought that made them abandon their lands in the country of Quilengues. In fact it seems Mwila are supposed to be a miscegenation of Jaga invaders, coming from east (and who transitorily invaded Congo) and conquered the area, with the aboriginal inhabitants of the area, the Chimbemba (or Bachimba). The conquerors formed the powerful kingdom of Huila during the 17th century, led by a Soba, which ruled the area until the first half of the 19th century. Mwila were part of this chiefdom and most of the traditions of these bantu cattle farmers date back to these times, although it is not clear for them nowadays.
Mumuhuila rarely eat meat, they rather eat porridge, corn, chicken, honey and milk. They kill their cattle only on special occasions. Mwila are not allowed to mention people’s name in public.
But Mumuhuila women are especially famous for their very special hairstyles. Indeed hairstyles are very important and meaningful in Mwila culture. Women coat their hair with a red paste called, oncula, which is made of crushed red stone. They also put a mix of oil, crushed tree bark, dried cow dung and herbs on their hair. Besides they decorate their hair with beads, cauri shells (real or plastic ones) and even dried food. Having their forehead shaved is considered as a sign of beauty. The plaits, which look like dreadlocks, are called nontombi and have a precise meaning. Women or girls usually have four or six nontombi, but when they only have three it means that someone died in their family. Mumuhuila Women are also famous for their mud necklaces, which are important as for each period of their life corresponds a specific type of necklace. When they are young, girls wear heavy red necklaces, made with beads covered with a mix of soil and latex. Later girls start to wear a set of yellow necklaces called, Vikeka, made of wicker covered with earth. They keep it until their wedding, which can last 4 years. Once married they start to wear a set of stacked up bead necklaces, called Vilanda. Women never take their necklace off and have to sleep with it. They also use headrests to protect their hairstyles. However, more and more men and women dress in a western way, because people use to make fun of them when they go to markets.
Living conditions are tough as women sometimes walk for 50 kilometers to reach Huila market to sell goods.

Actually taken just outside my house and was a failed attempt on a Milkyway shot. Played around with it in Photoshop, and then desided to check out some of the new features in Neo. Ended up with this artistic and dreamy scene.
Phew, actually I thought I wont get an image today. Too much work, too much stress. So I drove around on my way home and found this nice scooter.
I would like to do other stuff, but there is no time right now and it is fucking cold outside.

Actually done for a SPAA fringe workshop on 16 Oct 2009. This sheet contains a simple, non-exhaustive list of the key attributes of transmedia storytelling through playful social activity. Many of the existing works in this space are called Alternate Reality Games which are in effect lots of people 'playing' inside a constructed, artificial story environment. The sheet below is for the designer of the 'service' to follow a simple, rapid development sequence (after you have decided on audience and purpose, ROI of course!) 1 - Consider which typical components may enhance and be relevant for your story 2 - Map these 'event based' or media placements into a numbered sequence (fill in the open boxes) - just the order they may appear not chained! 3 - Present back what story elements will occur in each of them, include at least 6 sequence elements

actually this is better than i dared hope! I wasn't giving up without getting a picture. Hard fought, though most of the fighting was thinking along the lines of "what do i do?"
We actually came across about 1/2 doze of these cute little horn sharks in the shallows. They were so calm and passive that my buddy was able to gently pick one up.
I actually went out for a long walk today - first for weeks. It was lovely to get the wind in my hair (before the rain put in another appearance!) Defo better which is great. Love the umbellifer seed heads though most of these have either blown away or been eaten already. Love the starkness...
Only 2 left - I am planning the final shot - ish! What will I do without the daily task? Got a few weekly groups to keep my hand in but I do have a few other ideas for the New Year.

I was hoping to get 4 trains in the shot but the Bournemouth to Manchester slunk away...even more late.

Actually the brewery is in Baltimore County in Relay, Maryland. Named the Guinness Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House, the new brewery is the first Guinness presence on US soil since 1954, and the first ever purpose-built Guinness brewery in American history.
This is actually a full slip that is part of another dress, but when dressing I decided the "slip" on its own made a lovely dress by simply accessorising it a little..
Sssshhhh, don't tell anyone that I'm wearing my underwear as a dress...!! Oh, hold on, I may have let my secret out already..😅😅💃
