A very nice center with old and narrow medieval streets, a wide variety of facades of small buildings. Even after sunset when the streetlights are lit, it becomes almost magical to see, like someting exciting new to be discovered. Always a very nice walk in the old city centre.

There are so many medieval and monumental facades abound. The inner city of the city is rich in historic streets and facades, this also makes it a popular location for recording films.

A very popular destination in the Périgord Noir, maybe because modern history has largely passed it by. Sarlat has remained preserved and one of the towns most representative of 14th century France. The old centre consists of impeccably restored stone buildings, with 77 protected monuments it's on France's tentative list for future nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Largely car-free with lots of narrow ancient streets and small stores, an absolute pleasure to walk through and to discover.

Fortifications - during the time of the United Provinces Hellevoetsluis was the naval port of the Admiralty of de Maze (Rotterdam) and could accommodate an entire fleet within a special land-enclosed fortress with harbour and dockyard facilities, accessible through a canal. Thanks to its strategic situation the town grew from the beginning of the 17th century to be the homeport for the Dutch war fleet. In later years the port was fortified more and more and Hellevoetsluis therefore became a unique combination of fortified town and naval port.

The Admirals Maarten Tromp, Michiel de Ruyter and Piet Heyn had their home base here and in 1688 during the Glorious Revolution William III of Orange's invasion fleet departed from the port.

Huiskamer van Toon en Bets.

There are many old and replaced Efteling objects in the Efteling Museum. This kitchen is part of the living room of the "Huiskamer van Toon en Bets". This old Dutch kitchen is an entrance to a few exposition areas with lots of earlier ingredients like objects and used decoration items from a growing Efteling history. Just like this museum what used to be the Rariteitenkabinet.

For example, you can see the first original flying fakir, the speaking map, the first witches who were on top of the entrance gate to the Fairytale Forest and many dozens of molds of heads. There is also an exhibition space where original design sketches can be seen.

The traditional Christmas tree burning is an annual event that takes place the week after Epiphany. According to tradition, January 6 is the date on which the Christmas tree is taken down. Then it is Epiphany, the day on which, according to the Bible, the three Magi from the East arrived in Bethlehem. This holiday symbolizes the end of the Christmas celebration. The Christmas tree burning event is then organized by the municipality, ensures that the trees are collected and plans an evening often attended by many spectators. The event is often enhanced by music and there are stalls selling snacks and drinks. A festive tradition with a warm welcome for the new year.
