Steam engines on tour. Steam engines in and around the historic city center, once they have come to a halt in front of the Town Hall, you can really see how impressive they are. Hissing, big and heavy, the smell of burning coal, from time to time the loud whistling of the steam whistles that could be heard far and wide. This steam whistle sound has been the sign that it was Vestingdagen for several editions of this event.
Hellevoetsluis has no direct link in the past with steam engines, at most with the Pomphuis of the Jan Blanken Dry Dock, the Machinistenschool or later a steam train connection with Rotterdam. Nevertheless, these British steam engines were seen and experienced as a top attraction.

Huiskamer van Toon en Bets.
There are many old and replaced Efteling objects in the Efteling Museum. This kitchen is part of the living room of the "Huiskamer van Toon en Bets". This old Dutch kitchen is an entrance to a few exposition areas with lots of earlier ingredients like objects and used decoration items from a growing Efteling history. Just like this museum what used to be the Rariteitenkabinet.

Sleeping Beauty Castle - completed in 1992, for the park's 12 April opening, Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant stands 50 meters (160 ft) tall. The Castle is home to a dragon, which, at 27 meters (89 ft) from head to tail, was the largest Animatronic figure yet built when the park opened in April 1992. The walkthrough attraction consists of a dimly lit cavern with the large dragon sleeping silently. Occasionally it will 'wake up', puffing smoke and growling. The building also contains La Galerie de la Belle au Bois Dormant, a gallery of displays which illustrate the story of Sleeping Beauty in tapestries, stained glass windows and figures. Many historic steam engines, impressive, large and hissing, and beautifully lit in the evening. Not only were they parked somewhere but they also drove around the old city center which got a lot of attention from the public. The sound of the steam whistles has long been the typical sound for another summer edition of the Vestingdagen event.

He's also known as "Toady" to his friends, he is the wealthy scion of Toad Hall who inherited his wealth from his late father. Capture of Brielle
April 1st, 1572 - the capture of Brielle by the Watergeuzen. A turning point in the uprising of the Low Countries against Spain in the Eighty Years' War. Militarily the success was minor as the port of Brielle was poorly defended by the Spanish, but it provided the first foothold on land for the rebels at a time when the rebellion was all but crushed, and it offered the sign for a new revolt throughout the Netherlands which led to the formation of the Dutch Republic.
The Watergeuzen were led by William van der Marck, Lord of Lumey, and by two of his captains, Willem Bloys van Treslong and Lenaert Jansz de Graeff. After they were expelled from England by Elizabeth I, they needed a place to shelter their 25 ships. As they sailed towards Brielle, they were surprised to find out that the Spanish garrison led by the Spanish "Iron" Duke of Alva protagonists was poorly defended. On the evening of April 1 in 1572, the 600 men sacked the port, rammed the city gates, defeated the Spanish soldiers and liberated Brielle as the first Dutch city in the Netherlands from de Spanish .
Nowadays a very popular annual UNESCO event with lots of Watergeuzen, Spanish soldiers and medieval dressed people in a city center all dressed up just like then on that historical day.

Sneeuw als Vrouw Holle het kussen schudt.
Tegenwoordig valt er jaarlijks sneeuw en om te beginnen in de Efteling. En de sneeuw van Vrouw Holle (2006) als ze de kussen schudt heeft tegenwoordig ook echte grote vlokken als je haar in het huisje in het Sprookjesbos treft. Eerder was er geen huisje maar een put sinds de opening van de Efteling in 1952.

Some of the houses date back some time but mostly all of the houses even much longer ago. Very nice and different facades present a different look around every corner. None of the buildings are fitted with visible modern items so you might forget the actual date and time now and then...

The traditional Christmas tree burning in Hellevoetsluis is always a very nice event. It starts with the Christmas tree hunt for the children to earn lottery tickets. The municipality as an organizer collects about 1000 Christmas trees that are burned as a large fire under the supervision of the fire brigade on the Zuidfront or Land van Paling. It attracts more and more visitors over the years, children win some nice prizes with the raffle tickets and the atmosphere is very nice. It is actually also the warm welcome of the year, especially with the glow of the fire of 1300 degrees Celsius.

Zwartewaal - the small village of Zwartewaal, part of the municipality Voorne aan Zee in the Dutch province of South Holland, The Netherlands. It still retains the harbor, in medieval history connected to the North Sea, the surrounding countryside consists of various protected nature reserves with polders, dykes and a variety of agriculture.
A very special trip is of course with a steam tug like the Schiedam or "Hercules" (Est. 1915). Great to see these ships sailing and to hear the steamwistles from miles away.

The Efteling Museum now has numerous objects and objects that have previously stood in the Efteling. It's nice to see the small changes, improvements and innovations that everything has undergone. Often the most special are the animatronics, the lower parts of a figure that has to perform this many times a day without any problems.

Efteling Museum - opened in 2003 on the renovated and expanded Anton Pieckplein. The museum houses old ornaments, statues and attributes of the park. For example, you can see the first original flying fakir, the speaking map, the first witches who were on top of the entrance gate to the Fairytale Forest and many dozens of molds of heads. There is also an exhibition space where original design sketches can be seen.
