Maroon Bells - Snowmass Wilderness: Day 3 - Buckskin Pass and Willow Lake Pass

Friday morning, Inwood Hill Park, New York City

I was doing some test shots with my 200-400mm lens when I saw these three birds across the street. As soon as I trained my camera at them, they took flight. I hurriedly reframed the image and this is the result.

People scorned my friend, Geronimo "Rectum" Pablo, for posting his outdoor pants-down fiasco in all online mountaineering communities he joined. When he offended enough people, especially women, for him to be kicked out by the group admins, he finally told everyone that he is a rectum cancer survivor and posted his post-op photos at the hospital. After recovering from the deadly disease, he swore to a life of healthy living and to help fellow cancer survivors. Last 2012, he started his advocacy (wherein I am one of his so-called "godmothers") to help children fight cancer. For every money his fellow mountaineers give him to lead and to organize climbs, he donates them to lucky parents who need funding for their children's chemotherapy.

秦始皇兵馬俑 (Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses), Xian, China.

Upon ascending the throne at the age of 13 (in 246 BC), Qin Shi Huang, later the first Emperor of all China, had work begun on his mausoleum, which took 11 years to complete.

The terracotta soliders form part of the mausoleum (along with many other treasures which accompanied the Emperor in the after-life). The masusoleum itself has not been opened yet.

The museum is divided into 3 pits. It is estimated that 6000 terracotta soldiers and horses & 50 charriots were buried in pit 1. The pit was discovered accidenaltly by some peasants in 1974.

Pit 1 is a combined battle formation of charioteers and infantrymen (each of them look different!). At the eastern end of the pit, there are 3 rows of vanguards. Behind the vanguards is the mainbody of the battle formation. Around the outer edges , there is one row of soldiers facing north, west and south as teh flanks to guard the sides and rear of the army.
