As I was watching this lioness approaching the waterhole at Nebrownii in Etosha, she broke into a slow trot for a few yards and then into an all out chase. At the same time that I noticed the Springbok, I realized that my camera was set to a less than optimum focussing mode. Lots of action ensued in a very short period of time, resulting in me missing perfect focus lock-on and the Springbok escaping the Lioness!

Scan Kodak Color Plus 200 Umkehrfilm Expired 2002 und Canon Prima AS-1 Der Film hat weit über 10 Jahre unbenutzt in der zwar sauber, aber auch warm gelagerten Kamera verbracht - und ich habe ihn einfach so "weg geknipst", ohne zu merken, dass es ein Diafilm war. Sonst hätte ich ihn nämlich crossen lassen... So habe ich mich erstmal über die Bearbeitungszeit gewundert und beim Abholen über den dicken Versandbeutel (gerahmte Dias!) und den gepfefferten Preis erschrocken. Einen Farbstich haben die Bilder alle, aber das ist ja Lomo und hipp :-)
Scan Kodak Color Plus 200 slide film Expired 2002 and Canon Prima AS-1 The film has spent well over 10 years unused in the camera, which was kept clean but also warm - and I just "snapped" it off without realizing that it was a slide film. Otherwise I would have let him cross ... So I was amazed at the processing time and scared when I picked up the thick shipping bag (framed slides!) And the high price. The pictures all have a color cast, but that's Lomo and hip :-)

As you can see, there is even a bed in it, and it looks a little messy at the moment.

As a secular, pseudo-rational, non-mystical person, that has a deep curiosity about the human experience, and live in one of the holiest towns in the world, I often remain in great awe when I see people that experience a deeply religious experience. I doubt if I ever feel such deep and meaningful emotions; or if I can be totally empathic to them.

As I waited on the beach for the Sun to set (before taking this photograph) I was entertained for a few minutes by a delightful shore bird. It ran up and down the surf line, almost frantically, in search of hidden prey buried in the sand. What stuck me is how the bird was continuously (and voluntarily) on the edge of catastrophe: a moment's hesitation, and it could be engulfed by the pounding waves.
And it got me thinking about our own lives, too. In reality, don't we all conduct our lives on the edge of catastrophe? There is a seemingly fine line that separates sickness from health, poverty from abundance, warfare from peace, hate from love. Like the immutable surge of the ocean, we often encounter forces and circumstances which are beyond our control. The key, then, to living a fulfilling and productive life on the edge, is learning to deal with whatever comes our way. This idea is perfectly encapsulated in the Serenity Prayer:
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference."

Yesterday CSX did an amazing job of celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Clinchfield's annual Santa Claus train, by repainting F7 800 into its former Clinchfield colors. It certainly celebrated the history, and time honored tradition bringing smiles to many children along the CRR with a visit from Old Saint Nick. Back in October 2012, I was returning to Romney, W. Va after spending 2 days on a Carl Franz charter with the WMSR 734 under screaming foliage and dome skies. I was headed to the W&W the next day and figured I'd stop by Romney, W.VA to see about a night shot of "C&O" 8016. As I began to set up, the owner of the engine appeared and graciously started it up and worked the lights for a quick night shot. The 8016's regular assignment was hauling tourists on the SBVR's "Potomac Eagle". Little did anyone realize the dream of seeing this engine at "Streamliners in Spencer" in 2014, nor did they ever imagine seeing this old girl restored to its former glory of Clinchfield 800. I had a long chat on Zoom the other day with Lady Amanda Barclay, who (as you probably know) is managing The Salon during my prolonged absence.
Lady Amanda told me that they were very busy during the Coronation weekend. Lord Belcher, Lord Bromley, Lord Fanshawe, Lord Quentin Mowbray and Lord Trent were all in a sulk about not having been invited io the Coronation itself. So Lord Belcher organized a lingerie party at The Salon, with all of our regular girls, and a few extra performers thrown in for good measure.
Their Noble Lordships all had a fabulous time with our girls! Around about midnight – when the orgy had reached its peak – Lord Trent was heard to remark: “Where would you all rather be right now, boys? Here, or in Westminster Abbey?”

Tagged as Blue 44 the Osprey I helped to protect as an egg is now a fully fledged Juvenile but he has not yet heard the call from Africa, his mother left a while ago now but his father is still bringing him fish every day. Most of the Scottish Osprey juveniles have left and some have already arrived, Blue 44 is radio tagged and I am sure he will be off soon.
