British artist Marc Quinn presented at the 2013 Venice Biennale the inflatable version of: pregnant Alison Lapper, a 3.6-meter tall sculpture that explores the relationship between art, science and the body as a survival mechanism.

Artist Palette

Death Valley National Park

February 2008

Nature’s canvas comes alive at Artists Palette in Death Valley. Volcanic deposits rich in iron oxides and chlorite paint these rugged hillsides in striking shades of lavender, pink, and mint green.

Already gone - didn't last long.

Some dolly woke up feeling inspired to paint today. I have to build her an art studio.

Well, I'm briefly back from a "grand" trip up to Lake Superior and the North Shore area. (No angry bear issues this trip!)

I had the pleasure of having breakfast with Monica (lablover47) in Two Harbors on Monday morning, then proceeded up Route #61. More photos to follow soon...

I'm heading back to northwest Wisconsin yet this week to visit friends. I will try to catch up next week!

Took the Half mile shortcut hike up to Artists Bluff Today and was'nt dis

apointed as the weather was perfect, no wind and warm Temps. The Hike was Steep and Tough for me as i am recovering from total knee replacement, But i passed this Test.

Edited in Photoshop (reduce luminance & color noise, sharpen), Pixelmator (cleaned up some paint drips on the bear), Snapseed (perspective, crop, color details, frame), and Photos (lighting).

Smoothened quite a bit for a more glossy look.

Seems like a fun picture to look at! :-)

Death Valley National Park

Somewhere in China in 2009.

I went on a non-trail trail, forged by volunteers planting native plants in the backwoods area, and happened on this nice set of conks, probably Ganoderma brownii, growing on a dying big leaf maple. Artists have been known to draw on this white material; you can find some of this art online. Ravenna Park, Seattle, Washington

I'm sure my Flickr friend, Debbie, (KissThePixel ) could make a much more creative interpretation of this shot but that's what I love about Flickr - being inspired by fellow photographers :-) For now, this is a well-used old bike on Bowen Island, BC - parked outside the studio/gallery of an incredible artist, Vikki Fuller, check out her delightful artwork here: www.vikkifuller.com

This spot is in Death Valley CA, called the Artist's Palette. I would have called it Neapolitan Sundae. Best viewed on a computer to see the color contrasts

A fascination art, a wonderful skill to have.

Taking a picture from a stranger is different from other types of photography forms. It's relatively hard to clone those moments again. And that's why this project and all the precious moments become worthy to me.

My final post from our quick trip "Up North" last week. It shows a little autumn color starting in the tree tops, mixed with pines.

It's a rocky point that inspires artists, kids to run and play, and photographers. Even in winter, brave souls hike the point exploring just for fun.
