"Was he greedy for power, or guided by higher though, or simply out of his mind? What made the old man, elder of the village, to leave behind the warmth of his house and climb up the mountains, to the moor cold and bare, which the cults of old had inhabited with ancient shrines, causes long forgotten? But there he went, and at the springs of the black stream he awoke what should not been disturbed. His fate remains forgotten; but since then has rain not ceased, nor have we had peace from the thunder and the lightning. The crops rot; The fields are flooded. Nothing will save us from the wrath of the Gale Serpent."

We hiked for several hours up the mountains through territory unfamiliar to me, carrying two days worth of gear and slipping and sliding our way through the first real snowfall of the year, our sight limited by surrounding fog so thick we couldn't see more than a few feet in any direction. The night was spent a cabin that seemed in the middle of nowhere, as if suspended in time and space - lost in the whiteout fog and silence of the empty mountains for miles around. Silent, save for the joyful laughter of good friends that could be heard from inside the cabin, perhaps spurred on by the wine and chocolate that somehow was prioritized to be carried up the mountain. Night passed, morning came, the fog still heavy... We wandered through the fresh blankets of snow, hoping and waiting for the sun to break through. And then, it did. The mist began to roll back down the mountain, lit brilliant gold by the rising sun, and we got our first view of our surroundings as I took this self-portrait. I can't remember if I said any words in particular during this moment, but I do remember my heart soaring and feeling the happiest I've felt in a long time, standing here in my element and witnessing one of the most beautiful sunrises I've ever seen. It will be a long time before I ever forget this one.
Finally the heat wave is starting to fade and spending some time to process new images it's again possible. Here is a frame I took earlier this summer. The night hike to reach this spot at sunrise was greatly rewarded.

On Thanksgiving day, I caught the Sun rising from the clouds above my apartment. It was definitely something to be thankful for. Enjoy! This was taken with my iPhone 5s.
This is what happens when I am alone on a rainy day with a camera and a tripod. Having a couple hours to post process helps too. Was kind of an adventure, although I did track leaves all through the house...
Brunswick Heads is a delightful town at the mouth of the Brunswick River in northern New South Wales with the usual lovely Pacific Ocean beach. Benefitting from being pretty close to Brisbane via the upgraded Pacific Highway and probably also a spill over of people tired of the crowds at nearby Byron Bay, it is also now booming. The day we went there in early November 2019, we could hardly move or find a park. It was already hot too and the bushfires that got a grip of the east coast were already raging in the general vicinity.
Like many places in this area it is also a funky little town with great coffee shops and attractive frontages.
The Brunswick Picture House was reopened in 2016 and as you can see has that air about it, has joined the Funky Club by setting itself back to an earlier era.

This sequence took under five seconds from the swans appearing out of the mist to them disappearing again into it. I was rather ill prepared but I know what to do now if given a second chance!
Spituk Monastery, also better as Spituk Gompa or Pethup Gompa, is a Buddhist monastery in Leh district, Ladakh, northern India,The site of Spituk was blessed by the Arhat Nyimagung. 8 kilometres from Leh. It was founded by Od-de, the elder brother of Lha Lama Changchub Od when he came to Maryul in the 11th Century. He introduced the monastic community. When Lotsewa Rinchen Zangpo (Translator) came to that place he said that an exemplary religious community would arise there and so the monastery was called spituk (exemplary).During the time of Dharma raja Gragspa Bum-Ide the monastery was restored by Lama Lhawang Lodos and the stainless order of Tsonkhapa was introduced and it has remained intactas such till present. Founded as a Red Hat institution, the monastery was taken over by the Yellow Hat sect in the 15th century.
The monastery contains 100 monks and a giant statue of Kali (unveiled during the annual Spitok festival).
Even this rustic cutlery cannot handle concrete.
So, questions arise.
What grade of cutlery would suffice?
Would the placement etiquette still apply?
Who eats concrete??*

Red-billed Oxpecker (Buphagus erythrorynchus) on the back of Impala, Savuti, Botswana, March 2023.
Both the English and scientific names arise from their habit of perching on large mammals (both wild and domesticated) such as cattle, zebras, impalas, hippopotamuses, rhinoceroses, and giraffes, eating ticks, small insects, botfly larvae, and other parasites, as well as the animals' blood. The behaviour of oxpeckers towards large mammals was thought to be exclusively mutual, though recent research suggests the relationship can be parasitic in nature as well. The swahili name for the Red-billed oxpecker is Askari wa kifaru (the rhino's guard).
Their distribution is restricted by the presence of their preferred prey, specific species of ticks, and the animal hosts of those ticks. Oxpeckers graze exclusively on the bodies of large mammals. Red-billed oxpeckers have been known to roost in reeds and trees. Studies of large savanna herbivores using cameras at night have shown that both species of oxpecker (but more often in yellow-billed oxpecker) may also roost on the bodies of herbivores, hanging under the insides of the thighs of giraffe and on top of impala and buffalo (wikipedia).
and get on with the day for these gulls as they fly into the sunrise. I had no time to focus this shot, so I am surprized it came out so well. It is a little over exposed but in this case it seems right. Evening................ THIS PICTURE MADE EXPLORE

ALMOST SUNRISE
Time to arise the seagulls all cry,
Look at the sun, just look at that sky.
Come on now hurry, let's fly up the bay,
Why would you waste such a beautiful day.
The early bird gets a big juicy worm,
The image of that makes my poor stomach churn.
Drop an oyster on rocks for a wonderful splat.
In my books it don't get much better than that.
For dessert we'll have a starfish or two,
They are always so full of delicious white goo.
A herring or two make great hor d'oeuvres
And fish is so good for my feminine curves.
