A shot that i'd forgotten about from a stroll i'd had around Rydal back in September . it was one of those rare mornings when the conditions were perfect and you wish there was more hours in the day ... and wasn't working ;)

Thankyou for viewing , your comments and advice are always greatly appreciated :)

Winterton sunrise again

When you arise in the morning,

think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive -to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.

Early morning at Coastguard Cottages and 7 Sisters, yesterday during a 2-1 workshop with two guests from Kent. Rather challenging "glary" conditions, but still a ton better than what came in the afternoon ;-).

I've just posted a short article about my approach to photographing woodlands. Read it on my website:

For a short while the sun came out and lit up the icy slopes of Chrome Hill. My favorite of a good few shots!

Arise: A Simple Story

Time for another Nicaraguan sunrise taken from Hacienda Puerta del Cielo, near Masatepe, Nicaragua. Once again we've got the caldera of a supervolcano stretching out in front of you and the smoke of an active volcano rising in the back left. On the right is a picturesque lagoon with an undeveloped coast. This was back in July on my honeymoon.

This inky cap is edible, but only if you don't consume any alcohol for 24 hours before and after eating them. Also called the alcohol inky and tippler's bane, frightening symptoms of nausea and malaise arise within minutes after ingesting these unique mushrooms if you've been drinking or soon will be. Otherwise they're quite tasty!

Arise, awake, O friend of my dream.

Arise, awake, O breath of my life.

Arise, awake, O light of my eyes.

O seer poet in me,

Do manifest yourself in me and through me.

Arise, awake, O vast heart within me.

Arise, awake, O consciousness of mine,

Which is always transcending the universe

And its own life of the Beyond.

Arise, awake, O form of my meditation transcendental.

Arise, awake, O bound divinity in humanity.

Arise, awake, O my heart's Liberator, Shiva,

And free mankind from its ignorance sleep.

Arise Awake - on black

Arise, shine;

For your light has come!

And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.

The Lord will arise over you,

And your HEART shall swell with joy;

The sun shall no longer be your light by day,

But the Lord will be to you an everlasting light,

Isaiah 60 ~ The Bible

Seen in Explore #68

I will arise and go now, for always night and day

I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;

While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,

I hear it in the deep heart's core.

The Kirk of St Nicholas is arguably the most important and undervalued building in the royal burgh of Aberdeen. The present structure is mainly of 18th and 19th century date, but incorporates portions of the 12th century church and stands on the site of the 15th century building, which was one of the largest and most prestigious burgh churches in Scotland. The archaeological significance of the Kirk and its precinct has several facets: Surviving remains of upstanding structures in the transepts dating from the 12th century are of major significance to the study of Scottish mediaeval parish and burgh churches. Fragments of architectural and decorative stonework from earlier church buildings are located at various places within the present structure and are worthy of further study and interpretation. Excavations within Collinson’s Aisle (North transept) in 1974 and evaluation work more recently in 2004 and 2005 have amply demonstrated that archaeological deposits dating to the period of 12th and 15th century structures remain below the present building. It is possible that evidence may also exist below ground of an even earlier church building. It is vital that all these features are protected and, should the opportunity arise, be explored further. Very little is known from archaeological evidence about the form and construction of pre-15th century Scottish burgh churches. The Kirk and Kirkyard have been used for burial for at least 900 years. Several fine monuments of the 17th century and later date survive within the Kirk and Kirkyard, while others have been discovered during recent archaeological work inside the Kirk. Many of the external memorials are in a poor state of repair and there is a need for a programme of detailed recording and conservation work. www.kirk-of-st-nicholas.org.uk/archaeological/

Narcissus is a genus of predominantly spring perennial plants in the Amaryllidaceae (amaryllis) family. Various common names including daffodil, daffadowndilly, narcissus, and jonquil are used to describe all or some members of the genus. Narcissus has conspicuous flowers with six petal-like tepals surmounted by a cup- or trumpet-shaped corona. The flowers are generally white or yellow (orange or pink in garden varieties), with either uniform or contrasting coloured tepals and corona. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissus_(plant)

The successor to the amazing Bugatti Veyron, the Chiron is faster and maybe a bit nicer, though that is subjective, and of course it is more expensive. The first 200 Chirons were sold before the first delivery of the car. The base price is €2,400,000 (US$2,700,000 at the August 2016 exchange rate), and buyers were required to place a €200,000 (US$226,000 at the August 2016 exchange rate) deposit.

Like its predecessor, the Veyron, the Chiron utilises a carbon fibre body structure, independent suspension and a Haldex All-wheel drive system.

The Chiron can accelerate from 0–97 km/h (0–60 mph) in 2.4 seconds according to the manufacturer, 0–200 km/h (0–124 mph) in 6.5 seconds and 0–300 km/h (0–186 mph) in 13.6 seconds. In a world-record-setting test, the Chiron reached 400 km/h (249 mph) in 32.6 seconds, after which it needed 9.4 seconds to brake to standstill.

The Chiron's top speed is electronically limited to 420 km/h (261 mph) for safety reasons, mainly arising from the tyres as the manufacturer concluded that no tyre currently manufactured would be able to handle the stress at the top speed the Chiron is capable of achieving.

Even if you were Given one, you couldn't afford to keep it on the road....................... You listening Steve Corey?

Continuing on with the exploration of complex new software ( "Affinity for Mac" ) that I recently purchased, incorporating two major new elements into my work - Layers and Text.

The inclusion of text for me in Art pieces was for a long time something of an anathema. I hated seeing it done and rejected doing in my own paintings as it shackled the abstract work to the ground, so to speak, to the everyday, mundane world of human talk.

Then came a long a patron who challenged me to give him my abstract painting style ALONG WITH incorporated text. I have a penchant for accepting all challenges and even though it was tough for me at first I soon learned to see the words and letters as just more formal or graphic elements in the total image. It opened up my artistic world by getting me to step out of my comfort zone.

When I presented said Mr. Taylor with the finished canvas, he immediately ordered a second one to hang next to it as a diptych. 3 more text-based pieces followed, all for the same patron.

For this image and the previous one, "Time and Time, Again" I wrote the text in the process of creating the image. I looked at the image, composited of a shot of the rubble of a building demolition and one of amaryllis growing in a greenhouse in January, and let the words come to me.

What came forward seems to say something about our current times when there's a tremendous threat of the demolition of much of what we once felt was safe and secure - things like freedom of thought and expression, freedom of assembly, freedom from hate and systemic persecution, freedom from the forces of ignorance.

Our current world view is dying. It has to. It quite clearly no longer serves us. Yet, out of every death comes some form of life, new life and perhaps a life that surprises us. And as surprising as it may be it will be something we did not expect. That's the beauty of it.

I learned recently, reading Rupert Sheldrake, that when cells die they produce a substance that enables new cells to be born. Without that substance new life can't come forth. If our old "world" is dying then there's some cause for joy - something new and unforeseen will be born out of it. So my message here is one of Hope in Dark Times.
