2021-04-05: I love trying out Soviet cameras and lenses, so I ordered a Horizon panoramic camera from Russia. Not the sharpest tool in the case, but still a lot of fun. This was a terrific test subject - a group of trees on the corner of a vineyard in northeast Kansas one April afternoon.
Taken with a Horizon SE U500 (fitted with a red filter) on Svema 100 film. Processed semi-stand in Adox Adonal 1:100 for 60 minutes.
I went on a business trip back in December. We met the team and visited the office. It was a lot of fun, but the weather was dull and gray, and time was tight, so I got to see just a tiny bit of the excellent industrial-era brick architecture.
Taken with Pentax MV film camera and smc Pentax-M 50mm F1.4 lens, on AgfaPhoto APX 400 black & white film. Developed in Adonal, 1+50 dilution slightly above 22°C.
Scanned with Plustek OpticFilm 8100 film scanner using VueScan.

#smalltowninertia Carlos in his apartment in prayer July 2017
The interior of Carlo’s apartment is sparse, a small television and stereo, a fish tank, a few old photographs of his estranged family, a table, chairs, a single bed, his Bible and his medication.
Immediately upon my arrival, Carlos showed me copious correspondence regarding health assessments to determine if he is eligible for continued support and benefits to, essentially, given the nature of his illness, keep him alive.
Left in a state of terror and confusion, ‘Is my Doctor talking with the assessors?’ , ‘Why are benefits changing?’, ‘Why am I being called to be assessed?’ , the past few months have been a nightmare, every moment abducted by fear with the resulting stress having a detrimental impact on his condition and his mental well being.
Carlos works hard at mastering the language but people rush words, have such little patience, correspondence is in English and vague at best and he has no transport, no phone and it’s painful and very difficult to move, to walk.
The stress, the constant downpour of stress, the anxiety, the isolation, little to no money, all make life and living, harder and harder.
In spite of his health challenges, Carlos wanted and wants to work. He had an interview and secured a job at a local factory, packing boxes but as soon as they learned of his illness, he was dismissed.
It all became too much, where to turn and how to breathe beneath the weight of such fears, problems?.
When Carlos attempted suicide, he had nowhere and no one to turn to. “Jesus Christ appeared to me and said ‘NO!, Carlos, now it is not your time.”
Keeping the noose on the shelf of a small table, often picking it up, holding it, folding it into the palm of his hands, letting it slip through his fingers, a dark black snake, an anti rosary, remembering.
Yesterday, after much talking, we decided it best to take it and throw it into the trash.
Afterwards, Carlos read from his bible and prayed.

We went for a brisk walk around the neighborhood on a freezing and sunny Saturday, with a plan to take a few pictures, and go home quickly. Needless to say, the plan failed spectacularly, with the track time being a few hours, and "a few pictures" transformed into the whole roll of film. The development of this bad, but beautiful, boy was...challenging. Particularly the "loading the film onto the reel" part. But I'd say it was worth it. I'm loving the contrast and the grain.

I dug out my first camera and used it today. It hasn’t been used since 1978 and time hasn’t been good to it. First off, there are a few pieces missing, so I had to just cut down a single negative to shoot in it. And the lens has developed some fungus inside it, so it’s a little hazy. But, I got an image from it after all these years. This was also the first time I shot some black and white film in it. Before, I had only shot color film.
Oh, and I might add - this is some winter we're having here in Southern Illinois. For the last 4 days, the temperature has been between 70 and 75 degrees. No snow for Christmas!

Again, a sunny day (the same one!) in December in a park, and a camera I've never used before. It's as simple as it can be, one shutter speed, one aperture and a plastic lens, but that works surprisingly well.
Taken with Dubblefilm Show, a simple, plastic film camera and its built-in 32mm F8 lens, on AgfaPhoto APX 400 film. Developed in Adox Adonal, 1+50 dilution, at 22°C.
Scanned with Plustek OpticFilm 8100 film scanner using VueScan.
I was out shooting for International Film Buying Day and International Communist Camera Day and stopped off just in time to catch the sunset over Crab Orchard Lake. It's about 50 miles away from where I live.

It rained so much on Friday that it was flooding. And then when the rain stopped, high winds came through. They were so strong, they blew someones trash cart into the middle of my neighbor’s yard. The camera originally used 116 size film, which they don't make anymore. I have instead used 120 film, which is only slightly less in width than 116.
This photo was taken with my eleventh camera. I picked it up at an estate auction.

This is an image from a roll of found film I got when I bought a camera from one of the downtown antique stores. I don't know when the pictures were taken, but they look to be from the 1970s. On another one of the negatives, the name "Dutch Wonderland" and "Lancaster, Pennsylvania" can be clearly seen. I looked it up and it's a theme park that was opened in 1963 and is still open, and is located just east of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The pictures are situated on the negatives in such a way that the film spooled from up and down, not left and right.

About as close to a straight scan you can get with print film. Only adjusted exposure, set black and white points and applied unsharp mask to get rid of scanner softness.
My first attempt at stand development in Rodinal turned out quite flat. I guess slightly increasing the agitation took better care of the highlights to yield very nice looking contrast on the negs.
