Having absolutely no technical awareness at all, I am struggling mightily with this entirely new system as comfort levels have been totally destroyed...and I haven't even done anything but try to configure photos, editing, and Flickr into some kind of coherent pattern which will become my new habitual morning routine. In so doing, I'm getting beeps and buzzers galore attacking me from some unknown universe for no apparent reason; I have to retype everything numerous times due to the new mini-keyboard; and I always seem to end up entering some type of "no navigation" zone in which further progress is disallowed and I have to return to the start.
In any event, I'm sure understandings will be reached within the next millenium. In the meantime, gazing at photos like this and drinking a cup of tea helps to ease the pain. And I promise to quit whining henceforth...;-)

Esta curiosa y pintoresca formación montañosa denominada “Los Castillos”, pertenece a la Quebrada del Río Las Conchas.
Es imponente. No solo por su color y estructura, sino también por su gran tamaño.
Está situada en la Provincia de Salta en el Noroeste Argentino, y a sólo 90 kilómetros con rumbo Sudoeste, de la Ciudad de Salta.
La distancia que la separa de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires es de aproximadamente
1.400 kilómetros.

When I stopped admiring the source of the Rhine and looked behind me, I saw these protected Alpine beauties, the large (5 - 20cm) Alpine asters! Not just one, but a whole bunch. I had to climb higher on a steep slope, but I absolutely wanted a good shot of them.
Absolutely surprised by this spontaneous visit of this deer. It calmly ran across the meadow and grazed until it finally ran into a small wooded area.
Absolutely stunning conditions for this mornings one to one workshop, think this could be my new favourite shot from here. Watching that mist rolling in was insane! Single shot, f11, 1/5s, iso 100, Canon 5dsr, Canon 16-35, Kase 4 stop reverse grad and polariser —
I absolutely adore pikas. Not just for their cuteness, they are also extremely ambitious in how they gather food for the long winters where they live as they do not hibernate. They live in talus fields near or above timberline and store food in haypiles among the rocks that they will eat during the long winter months.
They'r not hard to spot, but can be difficult to capture as they don't sit very long in one location. They can usually be heard before they are seen as they call out back and forth, sometimes in search of a mate and others as a warning to impending danger. They are 6-8 inches in length and can live up to 6 years or so.
There is a small colony on the western side of Cottonwood Pass in western Colorado. The elevation here approaches 12,000 feet and is an ideal location for them. More to follow!

Absolutely and utterly unmistakable orange bird with a zebra-striped wings, a Chinese fan of a crest (usually held closed, but often raised just after landing), and a rapier of a bill. Skye smiled. "Draco," she replied gently, "you're already a very special dragon. You're kind, brave, and you have the biggest heart of any lizard I know. Maybe you don't have wings or fire, but that doesn't mean you can't have adventures."
Draco thought about Skye's words. He realized that even though he wasn't a mythical dragon, he could still have amazing experiences. He could explore his terrarium, chase after his favorite toys, and even go on adventures with Skye.
From that day on, Draco was content to be the bearded dragon he was. He still dreamed of flying and breathing fire, but he also realized that his life was full of wonder and joy. And with Skye by his side, he knew he would always have the greatest adventure of all.

A dear friend bought me this rose for my 80th birthday back in March and it's just come into bloom.
It won the RHS award for Rose of the Year 2010
I cut this bloom yesterday and I'm glad I did cos the weather is foul today here in Sussex - high winds and heavy rains !
The poppies are really suffering and some are laying almost flat on the ground...
I've recently spent some time up in the Scottish Highlands. The focus of the trip was for animal I'll never tire of seeing; the Pine Marten.
The last few years have been focussed on the Black Isle. This year I spent my time in Ardnamurchan; a remote, wild and unspoilt peninsula on the west coast of Scotland near Fort William. I absolutely love it there despite the midges!
I got back earlier this week and have been working through a load of photos taken while I was there. So here's a first selection. You can expect plenty of Pine Marten photos to come! ;)
