Video of WTGI 61 logo. I must have recorded this at sign-off because there are tone and bars at the end. I used an antenna to record this as WTGI wasn't available on my cable system for a while.

this cross at Sign of the Theotokos parish in Montreal was painted by Br. Sergius of New Skete.

I took this shot for our photography club set subject competition. The theme was quite open to interpretation.

Description

My wife is fluent at signing and many years ago used to interpret where she worked as a nurse. I asked to borrow her hands for the evening. I shrouded her in a black sheet and got her hands sticking through, and asked her to sign a bit. Out of over 150 shots, this was the most graphic. It's very hard to get the hands in the right place, but we soon found the signs that worked better, and this had the right amount of blur. I tried strobing the flash at around 3hz on a 2 second exposure but it got too confused.

Strobist Info ::

580exII off camera left (cactus triggers) on about 1/4 power bouncing off the ceiling. A 430exII was mounted off camera right (cactus again) 1-1.2m at hand height pointed directly at hands. 1/16 power (-1/3 stop) .

0.6 second shutter, on about f3.2 - 4 (can't remember), 1st curtain sync. I had the room tungsten lights on fairly bright to capture the 'glow' and movement of the hand. All shot with flash pre-set white balance. Someone suggested daytime bulbs for the ambient to help with the slightly odd colour cast.

Otherwise, it's quite a straight shot with little processing other than a smidge of burning.

The mountain Esja (914 m (2,999 ft)) often called Esjan ("the Esja") is situated in the south-west of Iceland, about 10 km to the north of Iceland's capital city Reykjavík. Esja is not a single mountain, but a volcanic mountain range, made from basalt and tuff-stone.

Within easy reach of the capital, Esja is a very popular recreation area for hikers and climbers. The best known hiking paths lead to the summits Þverfellshorn and Kerhólakambur (851 m). Þverfellshorn is also easy accessible by public transport.

The path is divided into sections, marked with signs along the way. Each sign gives an indication of the difficulty of the path ahead with a grade system ranging from 1 boot (easy) to 3 boots (challenging). At sign 3 experienced climbers can choose to climb directly to the top, instead of following the path which goes of to the right. Approximately 200 meters below the top, there is a point marked with a big rock called Steinn. It is here that most inexperienced climbers choose to go down again, as the path becomes increasingly difficult from there.

Doulton’s Clay Pit is located in Saltwells Nature Reserve. This is situated 4km south of Dudley. Proceed on A4036, turn left at Merry Hill traffic lights (signposted) and continue for half a mile along Coppice Lane. Turn left at sign for Saltwells Inn. Car parking free. Within the wood is Doulton's Claypit with spectacular cliffs showing a section through the rocks of the Middle and Lower Coal Measures. Abandoned in the 1940's, the claypit has been reclaimed by nature.

Doulton’s Claypit demonstrates a series of strata through the Middle Coal Measures laid down in the Upper Carboniferous period c. 310 million years ago. This is the best exposure of the Productive Coal Formation in the Midlands coalfield. It shows a sequence from near the base of the formation and includes over 30 metres of shales and sandstones laid down in the low-lying swamp environment of the Upper Carboniferous. There are also several coals, including the Thick Seam, which has been extensively worked in this coalfield, and the lower Heathen Seam. The clay pit was excavated for Carboniferous clay during the 19th Century and was the source of clay for Royal Doulton.

Behold the Bamboodu Theater -- a portable puppet show for political rallies, civic events and art shows.

I created this street theater experience to engage people of all ages to help change the world through civic action.

Our first scene features Lady Liberty and Mr. Trump, illustrating the eternal fight between hope and fear through animated puppets, visual gags, news tickers and music, powered by Arduino.

The Bamboodu Theater will be on exhibit at Artworks Downtown in San Rafael from April 14 to 28. We also plan to show it at the Tax March in San Francisco on April 15, at Marinovators in the College of Marin on April 22, at the Climate March on April 29 and the Mill Valley Memorial Day Parade on May 30.

I’m very grateful to all the gracious collaborators who helped me create the Bamboodu Theater: Edward Janne, Phyllis Florin, Mark Petrakis, Geo Monley, Jean Bolte and our friends at Pataphysical Studios. Special thanks to Angelique Benicio for inviting us to premiere it at Signs of Hope, her political art show at Artworks Downtown in San Rafael.

Many years ago, I travelled to England on a business trip. I had a day to myself over the weekend to check out the sights, so I headed into the big city!

In my continuing efforts to promote and support improved international relations, I volunteered to help a pair of young Japanese tourists on the Milennium Bridge over the Thames River who wanted to have a picture taken of themselves against the backdrop of London. Utilizing my considerable skills at sign language, I mimicked the act of snapping a photo while pointing at the two of them. They eagerly nodded their consent, then handed me their camera as I stepped back to frame the shot.

My mission accomplished, they asked me if I wanted my photo taken the same way. [It was then I realized they must've gone to the same international sign language school - incredible!] I agreed, but before handing them my camera, I jumped over next to them and grabbed this shot.

Fire at sign shop, 1978. Another shot of the artists' colony up in smoke. An office building occupies the site, now.

As I had said “literary” could imply/require a narrative pursuit and that may limit me or demand a purpose or some kind of accountability. I do not really want to have a way through this or an idea of a way. I feel adrift a bit lost and I am looking for and at signs. I do not want to frustrate the viewer. I am searching for empathy.

The thought of see-through jerseys, gun barrels and bodies has returned yet again. The Baldheaded jersey man operates associatively like some kind of distorted Papa Bois in the ideological forest. There was a temptation to go into the public archives to find that image of the shot young woman but its fluidity in memory seemed to be more capable in some way of saying something as well. It could become a way of owning that memory or feeling that I observed in those a little older than myself, then, of youthful dreams - that “Third-World-ism” of the era and in which the term “political disturbance” was used as if what is going around you – the stagnation was a normal or an acceptable or given political operation.

The morning visit to Gainsborough's House on Gainsborough Street in Sudbury.

Thomas Gainsborough the painter was born in this house now a museum / art gallery. The museum will close in Autumn 2019 until 2021 for a refurbishment programme.

Thomas Gainsborough (1727-88) was born in Sudbury and was baptized at the Independent Meeting-House in Friars Street on 14 May 1727, the fifth son and ninth child of John and Mary Gainsborough and in 1958 Gainsborough’s House Society was formed to purchase the house and establish it as a centre for Thomas Gainsborough. The Museum opened to the public in 1961 and has remained open ever since, operating as an independent charitable trust. The beautiful garden is at the heart of Gainsborough’s House. It is maintained by a devoted body of volunteers who cultivate exclusively plants that were available in Gainsborough’s lifetime.

Gainsborough's House

Gainsborough's House is the birthplace of the leading English painter Thomas Gainsborough. It is now a museum and gallery, located at 46 Gainsborough Street in Sudbury, Suffolk, England. Some of the pictures on display have been acquired with the help of the Art Fund.

The house is now 46 Gainsborough Street and dates back to around 1520. Thomas Gainsborough's parents, John and Mary Gainsborough, probably moved here in 1722 and the artist Thomas Gainsborough was born five years later. Thomas Gainsborough, the youngest of John and Mary's nine children, lived in the house and attended Sudbury Grammar School. At 13 he went to London to further his studies training with the French painter and illustrator, Hubert-Francois Gravelot.

The house remained as a private residence until 1920, after which time it had various functions including a guest house and antique shop. In 1958, Gainsborough's House Society was formed to purchase the house and establish it as a museum and monument to Thomas Gainsborough. The museum opened to the public in 1961.

Familia: Accipitridae

Subfamilia: Milvinae.

The Red Kite is one bird of prey more frequent in Europe; similar in aspect to the Black Kite, is unmistakable its head of silver-plated gray color and its silhouette. Those that nest in the North of Europe move to the south to hibernate; some of them will cross Gibraltar until arriving at North Africa. Its distribution arrives until the Canary Islands and the Cape Verde Islands. Hunting birds and small mammals, like hares or rats, also feeds on birds and invertebrates; it even can devour carrion. Usually nests in the trees, where it makes a nest with branches and leaves. The putting consists of a number that oscillates from a single egg to three; they will take to born about thirtyfive days more or less. The male usually replaces to the female in the incubation by few periods of time, while she is fed.

At signs of danger a mother will signal the young who will "play dead" to the extent that a fox will believe them to be dead and leave them, thinking it can return to eat them later.
