Behold the Bamboodu Theater -- a portable puppet show for political rallies, civic events and art shows.

I created this street theater experience to engage people of all ages to help change the world through civic action.

Our first scene features Lady Liberty and Mr. Trump, illustrating the eternal fight between hope and fear through animated puppets, visual gags, news tickers and music, powered by Arduino.

The Bamboodu Theater will be on exhibit at Artworks Downtown in San Rafael from April 14 to 28. We also plan to show it at the Tax March in San Francisco on April 15, at Marinovators in the College of Marin on April 22, at the Climate March on April 29 and the Mill Valley Memorial Day Parade on May 30.

I’m very grateful to all the gracious collaborators who helped me create the Bamboodu Theater: Edward Janne, Phyllis Florin, Mark Petrakis, Geo Monley, Jean Bolte and our friends at Pataphysical Studios. Special thanks to Angelique Benicio for inviting us to premiere it at Signs of Hope, her political art show at Artworks Downtown in San Rafael.

An inspiring collection of political signs is on display at ‘Signs of Hope’, a special exhibit at Art Works Downtown in San Rafael. Over a hundred folks came to the opening celebration on April 14th, attracting creative minds of all ages and backgrounds.

‘Signs of Hope’ features some really creative signs used for civil activism during 2016-2017. The show includes my Bamboodu Theater, a puppet stage featuring Lady Liberty and Mr. Trump, with animated characters, news ticker and music.

This popular art show is curated by artist Angelique Benicio and community leader Thomas Roedoc, with support from Art Works Downtown and the Mill Valley Community Action Network (MVCAN).

Awhile ago Dawn ( www.dawnmetcalf.com/ ) invited three of us to decorate skulls for her to use at signings and the book release of her first novel.

It pulls in elements of several different belief systems, but especially works with the Day of the Dead. The novel is called Luminous and is a really hard to describe fantasy/adventure novel with a significant surreal horror element. It's gorgeous and creepy, often both at the same time.

So this is the skull I painted for her, sadly done without having yet read the book. (Damn having to wait for the proper book release.) But I knew monarchs had a role to play and that I liked how they looked against blue The dramatic mirror/flower/candle setup is all hers.

Luminous came out June 30, I think I finished it two days later. I took these photos at her release party. Her displays were lovely, but the lighting was not conducive to sharp photography, so apologies.

Getting There :

From Rock Springs, travel north on U.S. 191. Approximately 10 miles north of Rock Springs, turn right at Sweetwater County Road 4-18 (at sign that reads Petroglyphs, Sand Dunes, Boar’s Tusk) and then turn left at County Road 4-17. Soon you will travel under three sets of overhead electrical lines. As you drive, you can see the Wind River Mountain Range directly in front of you, which is approximately 60 miles north. When you reach the White Mountain Petroglyphs sign, about 14 miles from U.S. 191, turn left and proceed along a rougher dirt road. As you continue along this road about 2 miles, you can see Boar’s Tusk to your right (Boar’s Tusk is a volcanic formation that stands out among the sand dunes and flat terrain). After a slow 10-minute drive, you will see the BLM parking signs for the White Mountain Petroglyphs. The petroglyphs are about 1/4 mile on a packed footrail on the face of sandstone cliff. At an elevation of 7,100 feet, the White Mountain Petroglyphs are located in the Killpecker Creek drainage system.

GENETTER BRADLEY IS THE GOSPEL ARTIST THAT WE STARTED OUR LABEL DREAMIN' OUT LOUD ENTERTAINMENT FOR. SHE HAD EXPRESSED INTEREST IN PUTTING OUT A SINGLE SO WE ESTABLISHED OUR LABEL TO HELP HER ACCOMPLISH THAT GOAL. HOWEVER, BEFORE WE COULD ACTUALLY BEGIN, HER HUSBAND BECAME ILL AND SHE CHANGED HER MIND ABOUT MOVING FORWARD WITH THE IDEA. WE THEN TRIED TO FIND ANOTHER GOSPEL ARTIST THAT WOULD LIKE TO SIGN WITH US BUT WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. BASED ON THE ADVICE FROM BOTH ERIC HAYSLETT & T.C. GRIDDINE TO LOOK AT SIGNING A CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN/POP ARTIST, AFTER ALMOST TWO YEARS OF SEARCHING WE DISCOVERED KATELYN McCARTER FROM THE PETERSBURG/RICHMOND VA AREA.

Is that as in a reservation or character?

We went to a restaurant where you have to wear stripey clothes. It is one of the odder places in London. To retaliate we ordered two soups, a plate of chips, a beer, a coffee and a lemonade. They brought all that plus an extra soup.

The chips were awful. It was jolly expensive too.

Apart from the stripes, I don't recommend it.
