Besos

Pilgrimage church of St. Coloman near Schwangau and the famous royal palaces Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castle.

Sunday before last, I popped out for a loaf and came back with a pile of colours and shapes.. what do you call that, a beachscape?

Here's another, I think one of my favourites, I love the pools of gold and the colours caught on the sandscape, is that one a new word?..

..Probably not, but you can see the pipeline from earlier shots to the left and the wind farm to the right all pointed out by golden paths and pools, and that leading path of colour catching sand, along with a few of Anthony Gormleys 100 Ironmen.

I've some more, and will no doubt share at some point shortly, but with my 40th birthday tomorrow!, how old is that!, maybe I'll find something slightly different over the next couple of days to show, if only to give you a break...

Oh if anyone at Canon wants to have early hands on a MKIII 5D, that would make a great present for a 40'th don’t you think?....

...but back to reality, I can look forward to using my new lighting gear which my better half got me, so that should be fun.

Unlike the tricky and lengthy noise reduction for www.flickr.com/photos/flatworldsedge/5126748478/ in this case I just maxed Lightroom's noise reduction and dropped the clarity. It's a 226 second exposure (F/22 ¦ ISO 100) from one of the bird hides on Stocker's Lake in Rickmansworth Aquadrome.

There were hundreds of ducks floating about in the foreground, but none made sufficient impression against the bright reflected sky over the long exposure. Hope everyone is having a great week!

REDBUBBLE

London | Architecture | Night Photography

The competition brief for this 180m long bridge, one of a series of new pedestrian crossings commissioned for London’s Docklands, was unusual. It called for a bridge with temporary and permanent elements - and the ability to open for shipping. Our design achieved this through two identical spans, one fixed and the other openable, which in its original configuration created an s-shaped crossing between South Quay and Heron Quays. As planned, the northern span has now been removed and the southern half swung into a new orientation spanning the partly infilled dock. The simple elements of the bridge – the curved lines of the oak-clad deck, two raking masts and the shifting arrays of cable stays – create a visual dynamic, accentuating the kinetics of the design and contrasting sharply with the uniform urban grid beyond.

Dedicated to: my boring sunday morning.... (halloween holyday is so boring...)

Drugs taken: - Nothing...! (is coffe / cigarettes a sort of drug?)

This is one of the star trail photos taken at Ingalls Pass. Before this shot was taken, I did a test at 30 seconds. When I had the exposure right (@ 30 seconds), I did a little binary math to lengthen the exposure time to 30 minutes. I was a little concerned that the tent would be blown out, but math never fails.

I've a lot of catching up to do. I'll get to your streams in a bit. Happy Halloween to y'all!

The water drops are often seen in the morning on the leaves of lady's mantle. The morning dew on this flower in my garden has always fascinated me.

This photo was taken during my holidays and visit of my son in Kiel on the Baltic Sea in the summer. The droplets remind me of the game with glass marbles, which we played as children in the sand.

I had an idea to wish you all a Happy Halloween 2010 with an automotive shot on Flickr.

I guess the look and stance of a Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Roadster fits this purpose perfectly.

For the people who enjoy this, there are 3 bats, 1 spider and 1 black cat in this shot too. ;)

Actually I wanted to give him some change, but when he made eye contact with my camera, he ran across the street like there was no tomorrow.

Anyhow, I actually ran into him again today, but this time he was with his mother. Camera was in my bag, so I guess they wern't intimidated. 20THB for each of them.

The Kunstberg (Dutch, pronounced ([ˈkʏnzdbɛrç]) or Mont des Arts (French, [mɔ̃dɛzaʁ]), meaning "hill/mountain of the arts", is a historic site in the center of Brussels, Belgium.

The showcase square was created for the Universal Exposition held in Brussels in 1910. It featured a park and a monumental staircase with cascading fountains descending the gentle slope from Place Royale down to Boulevard de l'Empereur/Keizerslaan.

The original square was destroyed during the post-war construction frenzy known as Brusselization; between 1954 and 1965, the square and its surroundings gave way to massive, severely geometric postmodern structures such as the Royal Library of Belgium and the Congress Palace.

The Mont des Arts offers one of Brussels’ finest views. From the vantage point on a hill, the famous tower of the Brussels Town Hall at the Grand Place is clearly visible. On a sunny day, the Koekelberg Basilica and even the Atomium can be seen.

Major tourist attractions are located within walking distance from the Kunstberg: the Musical Instrument Museum, the Royal Museums of Fine Arts, the Royal Palace, and the city’s cathedral.

This is my initial post for a group called "Sliders Sunday", get it "sliders" as in the adjustment sliders in photo editing software. Sounds like my kind of group, considering I slide everything. Anyway, In truth not sure I love this image, have been sitting on it for some time, but felt it fit the group because I slid the living hell out of this one, and I wanted to make my presence felt in the group, I mean if it is about sliding, then lets slide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)))

Quick posting before a few days away in Venice and Vicenza for the bargain price of some £40 (Rome two weeks ago was just £12). Long live Ryanair and kerosene.

As indicated in the notes above, this is taken on the same stretch of coast as www.flickr.com/photos/flatworldsedge/5092591483/in/photos... with two major changes. Firstly, this shot was on a nice wide platform affording a little more safety than the former and secondly hunting for that extra bit of width I used my old Sigma 18-200mm (still on crop body 300D).

This image boasts only two out of camera changes - a white balance correction to whiten the bluish surf and a -100 saturation to aqua channel to kill some cyan CA which the Sigma produces shooting into the light. Unlike the shot linked to above this was taken 30 minutes after sunset, rather than during, but with a much longer (161 second) exposure. It's a couple of days later and a much more subdued orange than the magenta/lilac affair of the former.

Anyway - hope people like and you all have a great week. Look forward to seeing people's streams on my return. Have a good one.

The Parliament (Országház in Hungarian) was designed by Imre Steindl and built between 1885 and 1902, being the largest hitherto parliament building, and the most ambitious and costly architectural work of its time.

The building has a length of 268 m and 118 m deep.

It contains more than 20 km of stairs, and 691 rooms (including more than 200 offices).

The central dome (where they keep the crown jewels of Hungary) has a height of 69 meters, and is where we see the most beautiful ornaments.

The building sits on the banks of the Danube river. So when planning to build next to the river, , they had to reinforce the soil with more than two meters of foundations, arranged very precise form.

The main facade overlooking the Danube, but the official entry it is on the opposite side.

It presents statues of Hungarian rulers, Transylvanian leaders and famous military history of the country.

The principal style of the parliament is Neogothic, but are also clear Renaissance influences, with an omnipresent Byzantine touch in the rooms and corridors, especially noticeable in the delicate decoration of the stairs leading to the main hall.

Through this mix of influences, it was intended to represent the different cultures that have influenced and shaped to Hungary throughout its thousand-year history.

Even this picture, like the previous one, will be part of "reportage / story" I have in preparation entitled “Stolen Innocence”.

The child is taken up at a shelter for abused children and, unfortunately, he has been mistreated by their parents who forced him to beg on the streets and at the end of the day if they did not fit a set amount was beaten and left for fasting punishment.

Now it's much better approached in a religious order whose intention is to study to become a priest to help many children.

I again reiterate my warmest thanks to the always friendly tutor who were kind and affectionate that I shall continue to highlight the love with which they carry out their commitment to these children and a special thank you also and especially to Mother Sister Serafina.

Improvvisa vocazione

.

Uno strano sogno mi avvolge,

s'impadronisce della mia anima,

ma improvvisamente sento vivere

in me una voglia ardente.

in quella vita vissuta male, in quella gioia

tanto pretesa, ma, mai avuta.

Il mio sguardo incupito adesso trova

uno spiraglio, una nuova luce,

quella grande luce dove i pensieri assillanti,

strazianti oramai sono....assenti.

Sudden vocation

A strange dream surrounds me,

she takes over my soul,

but suddenly I feel alive

a burning desire in me.

My eyes are vague, lost, but

no longer want to touch my hands

darkness, this darkness that have already embraced

for so much, for too long ...... i have suffered.

E 'wet past so many tears,

my heart is no longer what it once

in that life lived badly, that joy

as alleged, but never had.

My eyes darkened now, share

a crack, a new light,

that great light where the troubling thoughts,

harrowing now I am ... ... .... absent

That all persons who have a noble heart and sincere love all the children of the world as if they were their own and to respect them as they deserve and as it should be treated .... with much love.

The first day of our workshop this weekend was very very wet. The second day, we were treated to sunshine and rainbows. :) The Pacific Northwest is about as indecisive as it can be when it comes to weather and that is one of the reasons I love it here. If you have lived here for any length of time you have seen it rain, snow & hail, during a severe windstorm and then turn to beautiful blue sky 5 minutes later. Our last stop of the workshop was Lower Lewis River Falls, one of, if not my favorite waterfall. We started at the top and encouraged those in attendance to make their way across the water to the top of the falls even though the water was running pretty good from the recent rains. It took a little while to coax them over to the prime locations near the edge of the waterfall but I am very persuasive and in the end we all made it safe and sound.

After shooting our fill at the top it was time to drop down below the waterfall. If it is your first time visiting this waterfall and it is running good like it was this day, dropping down INTO the water below doesn't seem like a very good idea. Again, I am persuasive and willing to lead by example so I jumped in and everyone followed. I also do everything possible to make people laugh and have a good time on our workshops and on this trip I did that by falling face first into the water. Just as we reached the bottom of the falls the sun dropped below the clouds that had been keeping it at bay and it lit up the entire waterfall blowing every highlight like candles on a birthday cake. Zeb and I used this as a perfect example of managing highlights and shadows using filters and camera controls. The rainbow you see in the picture would appear only when the sun was the brightest and when it did, the direct light hitting the fallen tree cast a giant shadow across the waterfall. That is when the million dollar question came....

What would you do with that tree shadow Aaron?

After quickly assessing the situation and realizing that even all 240 pounds of me wasn't going to budge that tree and that I may have to admit to this photographer that I did not have an answer for them I realized it was a great time to talk about image blending. I explained that sometimes a simple blending of images was all you needed to find a workaround to something like this so I suggested that we take one shot when the sun went behind the clouds and then a second when it was it's brightest and we would blend only the wall of rock on the left that contained the rainbow into the final image.

I took a couple shots of my own to see if I could actually pull it off and the high contrast caused by the direct light made for an interesting image in my opinion. Thanks again to everyone that came this weekend and thank you for your feedback and constant support of us and our workshops. Zeb and I both really enjoy each and every one of them and have a great time meeting so many great people and helping to inspire young photographers. Our 2011 schedule is finalized and a couple of the workshops have already begun to fill up for next year. Check out the blog for more details.

The 26.2 mile Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon has been held each year in early October since 1982. The MTCM is called “The Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in America." The race starts in downtown Minneapolis close to the Metrodome, travels South through some very scenic city lakes (Lake of the Isles, Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet, Lake Nokomis), then goes along the Mississippi River bluffs before crossing into Saint Paul, up historic Summit Avenue to the Cathedral of St. Paul and then down a little hill to the Finnish line on the grounds of the Minnesota State Capitol. This year over 5,000 volunteers and 250,000 spectators cheered along 4,085 incredable10 mile racers and 7,753 amazing marathoners.

If your wondering about the name, Medtronic is a locally headquared medical device giant that has been gracious enough sponsor the TCM since 2006 – so they get top billing.

The Alps (French: Alpes; German: Alpen; Italian: Alpi; Romansh: Alps; Slovene: Alpe) is the name for one of the great mountain range systems of Europe, stretching from Austria and Slovenia in the east, through Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany to France in the west. The word "Alps" was taken via French from Latin Alpes (meaning "the Alps"), which may be influenced by the Latin words albus (white) or altus (high) or more likely a Latin rendering of a Celtic or Ligurian original.

The highest mountain in the Alps is Mont Blanc, at 4,808 metres (15,774 ft), on the Italian-French border. All the main peaks of the Alps can be found in the list of mountains of the Alps and list of Alpine peaks by prominence.

The Alps are generally divided into the Western Alps and the Eastern Alps. The division is along the line between Lake Constance and Lake Como, following the Rhine. The Western Alps are higher, but their central chain is shorter and curved; they are located in Italy, France and Switzerland. The Eastern Alps (main ridge system elongated and broad) belong to Austria, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovenia and Switzerland.

The Alps are a classic example of what happens when a temperate area at lower altitude gives way to higher elevation terrain. Elevations around the world which have cold climates similar to those found in polar areas have been called alpine. A rise from sea level into the upper regions of the atmosphere causes the temperature to decrease. The effect of mountain chains on prevailing winds is to carry warm air belonging to the lower region into an upper zone, where it expands in volume at the cost of a proportionate loss of heat, often accompanied by the precipitation of moisture in the form of snow or rain.
