A view of the Fairy Glen from the other side of the Butte. Can you pick-out the cosmic circle of stones. Can you spot any naked ladies dancing in the centre of the spiral? If not then read on! The steep path leads right up into that cleft in the butte and onto the top of the geologic feature. From there you can be the King or Queen of the Fairy Castle!
The Faerie or Fairy Glen, is an area of otherworldly appearance, located close to Uig in the northwest of the Isle of Skye. It is a quiet place, except for bleating sheep, and is often described as fairy-like, yet relaxing. It is wild and far out, covered with something in the region of over 360 strangely shaped little conical hills. It is a pleasant natural spot with more than a hint of mystery. The hills are erosional features and geologists say that the distinctive landforms have been caused by a large landslip similar to the ones responsible for other parts of Skye’s unique topography e.g. the larger-scale Quiraing Area.
The area of the Fairy Glen is reported to be more than 15,000 square metres and contains numerous small, conical-shaped hillocks rising 2 - 10 metres in height. These hillocks are overgrown with thick, green turfy grass, are covered with bleating sheep and strange yellow mushrooms of unknown power and use. There is a brook running through the glen, with a little lochan and on the side of one of the slopes is a small cosmic spiral of stones, overgrown with grass. According to local legend, girls who dance naked on the spiral will have their dearest wishes fulfilled... or perhaps that should read: if girls dance naked around the spiral, local shepherds will have their dearest wishes fulfilled?
Wednesday 19.08.2009 was a big day for cycling fans in Oslo. Lance Amstrong participated in the Oslo Grand Prix.
About:
The Oslo Grand Prix was arranged for the first time. 1,5 hours through the streets of Oslo on a 1 kilometer criterium track. The city was packed with spectators and Thor Hushovd won a big victory.
On Twitter we spoke about meeting and shooting the event, so I got together with Oddne, Øystein and Stian and found a fine spot in one of the corners.
I have previously uploaded photos of Thor Hushovd and Lance Amstrong today Kurt-Asle Arvesen is in the pipeline :))
Check out this other shot of Kurt-Asle Arvesen
These guys ride incredible fast around the corner, panning my 40D on 1/15 sec shutterspeed was enough to blur everything out. The flash was then used to freeze the rider :))
Color, saturation and such was enhanced in Lightroom, a little retouching in Photoshop and that was it :))
Discussion
Comments and critique are as always welcome. Let me hear your opinion, why do you like this, or even better, how would you approach this scenery. Give me your thoughts... If you can't find anything to critique, a simple "nice" is cool too :))

My NOTES: Two things I want to do very soon. 1 - Watch the movie UP (it opened just this week here in the Philippines). 2 - Go wall climbing again, perhaps with some friends in Singapore.
Don't have any fancy strobe lights. So just used two halogen lamps to light this. One behind the figure as a back light and one right on top of it. My sister Dorothy had to hand hold the other so she gets part of the credit.

As I continue to crawl my way back onto Flickr after my long break I share with you another view of the Prague Skyline looking toward the East Bank of one of our favourite cities in all of Europe.
This is as wide a view as I could get as I enjoyed the sunset from Strelecký Ostrov on the Vltava River looking towards the Old Town in Prague, Czech Republic. The first mention of this island was in the 12th century back when it was given the elegant name of Lawn.
If you haven't already done so, you can take a look at a closer view right here. This was one of my most enjoyable sunsets on our travels. It doesn't get much prettier than this for me. I will showing you one more view next.

I hope everyone has a terrific weekend ahead the summer is winding down although it's still like 40 degrees here in Chatham and hot. Thank heavens for pools and basements.++

#219/365 Post Process Fridays episode #28. Just when you thought Point & Shoot week was over I reel you back in! This gorgeous shot was taken by Chris aka h1r0. Some of you may or may not know I spent a good portion of my childhood in Germany. Seeing European scenes like this really brings back some wonderful memories. If you get a chance check out h1r0's stream, he has some pretty incredible street portraits. Also I'm running low on PP friday volunteers. Let me know if you are interested or if I have passed you up. FYI I usually will pick the photo so sending me shots does not usually work out in your favor :) (see how I added a happy face so I don't come off as rude)

From the vault.
It's not easy shooting a sunset through a plane window as we climb above the clouds. I reckon I had about 25 seconds to get this shot, and that included getting my camera from the overhead lockers while were we climbing!
How great were these golden cotton buds!
We were chasing the sunset almost all the way home... its was neat, probably the longest 'blue hour' I've ever seen.
Enjoy.

When I heard about the Glacier National Park in Montana, I couldnt resist myself from going there. The glaciers were amazing to say the least mainly because I have never seen one before...but I was deeply saddened when I heard that out of 150 odd glaciers back in 1850, only 26 remain at present. They have also predicted that by 2030, this park will completely lose all its glaciers thanks to global warming.
I dont know what I can do to prevent it, but I thought letting people know is one of the biggest little things that I can do. I always believe that mostly people are good and that they do things out of being not aware.
Glacier National park is a fascinating place. It is shelved in the northernmost part of Montana. The drive through the countryside of Montana is quite interesting and a bit eerie especially at nights when you will most certainly be the only one driving :)
This particular pic was shot in the Many Glacier section of the park. It rained heavily and I managed this shot when the clouds started clearing.
Thanks for viewing..
I can't tell you how special these shots are to me, not because they're technically brilliant, but because they capture a moment I never thought I'd see.
Barney has issues with noise phobias, he gets very upset by basically anything in the distance that makes a bang, gun shot being the obvious source. We're working on it and I think making some headway, but I have kind of accepted that sadly Barney may have to be on the lead (for everyone's safety and happiness) more than he used to... (noise phobias are notoriously hard to cure).
Anyway, Barney had been very skittish on our walk today, and when we reached the top of the hill, sat panting in an extremely nervous, stressed out way, cowering against my leg, flinching every time he heard a bang. Part of me wanted to call it a day and go home but I didn't want to give Barney the impression we were "running away", so I quietly sat down instead and just waited.
After 10 minutes, Barney lay down more calmly, and I started to stroke him gently, I didn't talk, I just patted him. Slowly, ever so slowly, he relaxed and settled with his head against my leg. After half an hour he was properly asleep on the hilltop... I couldn't believe it, I was indescribably happy ! This might sound silly but for Barney to sleep outside in public at all, with dogs and people around and especially with the continued sounds of gun shots (from crow scarers, I believe) is a remarkable show of trust for him... Love my poor little scaredy doggy!
We stayed there for 45 minutes, until my hands started to go slightly numb with cold, it was a windy day today... then I woke him (he looked a bit shocked with himself, actually) and we went home :) By the way, I'm sorry for the essay above but I wanted to give the background story, so you could understand why these photos were special to me :)

#206/365 Before leaving worked I wanted to mess with flash and try to balance it with the ambient room light. Martha was a good sport and stood in. Holding the camera in one hand while holding a monopod with the flash in the other hand. Used a DIY beauty dish..only because that was the only thing I had available (umbrella shaft was broke). Have a great weekend!

This odd colored dragonfly caught my eye while I walked by, I had to stop.
First is the bright green colour, then the smoothness in the eyes. The eyes look out of focus until you see the original size that is available. I'm wondering if this is a sign of being young for a dragonfly?

So I am back from my wonderful vacation in Italy with my best-bud Uli. We went on an amazing motorbike-trip for one week - first we went to the Dolomites for 3 days and rode numerous Cols (for example Timmelsjoch, Jaufenpass, passo di Falzarego, Sellajoch, Pordoi, Passo di Pelegrino etc.) and then we went to the Lago di Garda (Malcesine) for some relaxation and swimming.
This image was taken at the "Passo di Falzarego" at 2105m (6900ft) sealevel.
And in case you ever wondered:
YES it is possible to eat Pizza EVERY evening for 5 days :-))
I have 14 GB of Italy images to process (plus the pics from last week-ends wedding) so I might be quite busy and not find the time to visit all your wonderful streams... will do so later!
This is my contribution to the Sunday church shot Group. Would love if you would like to participate as well! Wish you a fantastic sunday!!
