I was reading a Photography book, last night and there was a quote; "If taking an epic shot, why not make it double epic with a reflection." I can't agree more.
A perfect reflection of Maligne Lake Boathouse in Jasper National Park and a collection of images in the different seasons, through my trips to the Canadian Rockies.
This is an enchanted place, no to be missed if you're in the area.
Happy weekend everyone!

Derborence is a hamlet in the municipality of Conthey, in the canton of Valais, in Switzerland. It is located at 1,450 metres in an isolated valley on the south side of the Bernese Alps and is not permanently inhabited. Derborence is completely surrounded by mountains: The Diablerets (highest) on the north, Haut de Cry on the south and Mont Gond on the east.
Lake Derborence was formed in 1749 after two landslides coming from the south wall of the Diablerets. Thousands of tons of rock came crashing down from a height of 1900 metres in 1714 and 1749, coming to 400 metres below and forming a 2 kilometre-long natural barrier which gradually filled with water. A virgin forest grew on the rock debris. It consists of spruce, pine, larch, stone pine, beech and willows. The area was acquired by Pro Natura in 1961 and is now protected.
The valley, which is exceptionnaly rich in fauna, is a natural habitat for ibex, chamois, deer, marmots and hares and several bird species including the owl, golden eagle, bearded vulture and alpine chough.

The Alps (French: Alpes; German: Alpen; Italian: Alpi; Romansh: Alps; Slovene: Alpe) is the name for one of the great mountain range systems of Europe, stretching from Austria and Slovenia in the east, through Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany to France in the west. The word "Alps" was taken via French from Latin Alpes (meaning "the Alps"), which may be influenced by the Latin words albus (white) or altus (high) or more likely a Latin rendering of a Celtic or Ligurian original.
The highest mountain in the Alps is Mont Blanc, at 4,808 metres (15,774 ft), on the Italian-French border. All the main peaks of the Alps can be found in the list of mountains of the Alps and list of Alpine peaks by prominence.
The Alps are generally divided into the Western Alps and the Eastern Alps. The division is along the line between Lake Constance and Lake Como, following the Rhine. The Western Alps are higher, but their central chain is shorter and curved; they are located in Italy, France and Switzerland. The Eastern Alps (main ridge system elongated and broad) belong to Austria, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovenia and Switzerland.
The Alps are a classic example of what happens when a temperate area at lower altitude gives way to higher elevation terrain. Elevations around the world which have cold climates similar to those found in polar areas have been called alpine. A rise from sea level into the upper regions of the atmosphere causes the temperature to decrease. The effect of mountain chains on prevailing winds is to carry warm air belonging to the lower region into an upper zone, where it expands in volume at the cost of a proportionate loss of heat, often accompanied by the precipitation of moisture in the form of snow or rain.

We went for an organised beach walk by ZWB yesterday. 30 Km from Breskens to Cadzand and back!
We went along the shore all the way to Cadzand and came back part through the water and part through the dunes. It took 8 hours! Afterwords we had dinner in a beach house, OMG this was sooo cool. What a lovely day....!!
But today, while I was uploading my images, I did something wrong; I didn't save my pictures and deleted all the images from my camera. I must have been sleeping, because this has never happen to me before!!
So here are some "old" traces, footprints of a dog in the sand. Not from the same dog who was with us, but it could have been!
The texture I used is by Lenabem-Anna thank you so much for using it my dear!

I am sad, my mother's best friend died yesterday. I saw her on my last trip to Venezuela, always showing the same personality: kind, humble, helpful and with much love for my mother.
I'm sad too about my mother, the friendship of which was for life from a young women that they were struggling and working to educate and bring home the best way, caring for spouses and children.
My mother recalled yesterday a story from her friend who described her character full of compassion for others:
Mrs. Felipa one day being very young, traveling by bus when she saw a woman crying inconsolably, she asked what was the reason for her weeping and disconsolate woman replied that her daughter was sick and had no money to buy medicines doctors had prescribed, Mrs. Felipa looking in their pockets, but had no money to share, more looking at her hands was a ring which had been a gift and was a jewel fine, then took it out of the finger and I give it to the woman, saying: Take Madam, I have no money but you go and sell this ring and buy medicines for your daughter.
So my mother remembers, generous and loving, someone who shared joy and sorrow and prayers and illnesses in the final years, some day we all are going to die, but at the time of death we always shed tears. I'm shedding now mine for my mother's friend.

I'm stampolina and I love to take photos of stamps. Thanks for visiting this pages on flickr.
I'm neither a typical collector of stamps, nor a stamp dealer. I'm only a stamp photograph. I'm fascinated of the fine close-up structures which are hidden in this small stamp-pictures. Please don't ask of the worth of these stamps - the most ones have a worth of a few cents or still less.
By the way, I wanna say thank you to all flickr users who have sent me stamps! Great! Thank you! Someone sent me 3 or 5 stamps, another one sent me more than 20 stamps in a letter. It's everytime a great surprise for me and I'm everytime happy to get letters with stamps inside from you!
thx, stampolina
For the case you wanna send also stamps - it is possible. (...I'm pretty sure you'll see these stamps on this photostream on flickr :) thx!

The gray squirrel is numerically the most common squirrel on the East Coast. Gray squirrels are also known as black squirrels. This guy is from Williamsburg, VA. I also like the old fence with the hitching iron.

You might recognise this location from a photo a few weeks back. Myself and Greg got here early and shot for a good couple of hours. It's one of my favourite locations for photography, so we came for sunset and stayed until well after dark.
You can still see the remnants of the sunset if you look closely where Westminster Bridge meets the clock tower. Even though it was getting quite dark, I decided to shoot at f/22 to really give the water that smooth appearance and I'm pretty pleased with the result. It's a shame that the clouds from early in the evening disappeared, but the empty sky almost adds the the effect.
This might be my last photo this week, as I'm off to Croatia and Slovenia and have to get up stupidly early. Speaking of which, has anyone had much success or trouble taking a tripod on as hand luggage?
As always, night shots look better on black.
No images in comments please.
By the way, when I say 'no images in comments please', I really do mean it. Some people either think they're the exception to the rule or just don't bother reading. Any comments with images get deleted by me. There are three main reasons for this:
1) Page load speed. As a web designer I'm acutely away of how long it takes to load a page. Images greatly reduce this time and it's not a pleasant experience.
2) It's distracting. It distracts from the image and it makes filtering though the comments harder.
3) Activity feed. Images clog up my activity feed and makes it harder for me to see who has done what.
I have deleted some comments, messaged the person and said that they are more than welcome to link to their photo, but they can't post images. Most are ok with this. Some decide to argue with me, repost images and then I have to block them. Such a shame.

It's funny how things come together at times. It was the last morning of my vacation. I get my 4 a.m. wake up call from the roosters. I get up look out the window and it's pouring rain. I'm thinking to myself what a way to enjoy my last day on vacation. I get back into bed, and lie there for the next hour listening to the roosters just hoping and wishing for the rain to stop. 5 a.m. comes around and it's still raining. What should I do? Should I get up and go? Should I just stay in bed and go back to sleep? All these thoughts are going through my head. I'm making myself mental!
I decide to get up and go. I make my 15min drive to the location. It's still raining with no signs of any breaks. I get to the parking lot, look to the east. Rain......a lot of rain. I get back into the truck and sit for the next half an hour watching the rain contemplating if I should stay or leave. Wait.......I see a break on the horizon. The sky has a real faint glow, but it's at least a 15 min hike down to the beach. The trail down to the beach here is very steep. If it has been raining, forget about it. The trail is slick and muddy. There wouldn't be enough time to get down to the beach, so I decide to go with my plan B; shoot from the cliffs. I make my way slowly down the trail. I'm slipping and sliding all over the place. I get to the spot where I want to be at, I set up, and start shooting. The scene at this point is dark and moody with subtle light on the horizon. After a few frames the rain starts really coming down. I tried to stick it out in the rain for as long as I could but it was just too much. I pack my gear up in defeat. The conditions weren't in my favor this time around, but it's ok.......I've got great light at this location 4 days in row! ;-)
I make my way back up the trail, I take one last look at this killer view and all of a sudden I see this glow on the sea cliffs. The glow starts to get more intense, I can't say the curses that came out of my mouth, but I was swearing up a storm as I ran back down the trail slipping and sliding all over the place. The heart pounding heavy breathing intensity that was going through my body was crazy. The light started illuminating the shore line as if someone had slowly open the blinds in a room that was dark. When I was focusing in live view at x10 I could see the sunlight piercing through the rain! It was one of the most incredible scenes that I have seen. I would say this was a great way to start the morning.

oppure tozza e larga.
Veri acrobati, i sirfidi possono restare fermi in aria o volare all'indietro.
Another misty sunrise shot. I loved the blanket of fog enshrouding this rural scene, and the wonderfully long shadows. This should be the last of my sunbeams & fog session folks!
It is a very windy & chilly day in Chicago. 50 mph winds last night, so I will be stepping outside to see if there any leaves yet.
Happy Fence Friday Everyone!

On our way back from a trip to Mount Rainier we drove past this lake scene as the sun was setting and the light was changing rapidly. We immediately pulled over and made a mad dash to catch this moment of serendipity before it was gone.
I hope all of you had a great summer. Now that fall has arrived I'm eagerly looking forward to the changing of the leaves. Viva la camera! :)

I've been so damn lazy the last few days. I just couldn't get myself to do anything. I feel like taking a vacation... but the funny part is that I got back from a vacation just a month ago :))
Here is another shot from our trip to Cambodia. We went for a day trip out to the floating villages /forest and on the way we came across this really lovely lotus farm. What made this an even more interesting location was the dark rain clouds in the background! The umbrella of course adds a dash of color!
I hope you guys are having a good time this week and I hope I don't feel so lazy any more.
I look forward to catching up with your photos. Be good, everyone!

This is a tribute to one of my most beloved italian singer and songwriter...........Lucio Dalla, who died 3 days ago..
I lost a piece of youth:(
If you wish you can click on the notes to listen to some of his songs!
Testo 4 Marzo 1943 Lucio Dalla
Compiva sedici anni
quel giorno la mia mamma
le strofe di taverna
le cantò a ninna nanna
e stringendomi al petto che sapeva
sapeva di mare
giocava a far la donna
con il bimbo da fasciare
E forse fu per gioco
o forse per amore
che mi volle chiamare
come nostro Signore
Della sua breve vita il ricordo
il ricordo più grosso
e' tutto in questo nome
che io mi porto addosso
E ancora adesso che gioco a carte
e bevo vino
per la gente del porto mi chiamo
Gesù Bambino
E ancora adesso che gioco a carte
e bevo vino
per la gente del porto io sono
Gesu'Bambino
E ancora adesso che gioco a carte
e bevo vino
per la gente del porto mi chiamo
Gesu' Bambino
