This shot is from a solo mission I did in Davenport back in May. I had to get down and dirty here by taking off my shoes and standing in a rush of freezing water. I was treated to some really nice light and I couldn't believe I was the only one out here.
I also took a long exposure and as I was about to hit my cable release, a large dog brushed up against me and scared the LIVING &^%$ out of me; thus hitting my tripod and screwing up the long exposure. It's all good, I was just happy it wasn't the Loch Ness monster. I hope you are enjoying your week and may the light be with you where ever you are. Jave

The treacherous hairpin turns in the mountains between Changla Pass and Thiksey are the most dangerous part of Ladakh. Several car wrecks can be found in this area where the road is winding down from the mountain range and the slopes are very steep. The authorities never removed the wreck, either it has been left here as a grim warning to other drivers, or it was just too expensive to cart away.

La leyenda cuenta que un abate francés, huyendo de los horrores de la Revolución, vino a parar a estos parajes, ocultándose en la cueva. Y dicen que, de tanto llorar, sus ojos vinieron a irritarse de tal manera que le causaron un mal de la vista. Pero, en una ocasión notó que lavándoselos con las aguas de la fuente, sus ojos sanaron. De ahí el descubrimiento de las virtudes de las aguas y del nombre del lugar.

Legend has it that a French Abbe, fleeing the horrors of the Revolution, came to stop these places, hiding in the cave. From time to mourn, his eyes Abbe irritararon and caused a bad view. Kuwait City (Arabic: مدينة الكويت, transliteration: Madīnat al-Kūwait), is the capital and largest city of Kuwait. It has an estimated population of 63,600 (2006 estimate) within city limits and 2.38 million in the metropolitan area. Located at the heart of the country on the shore of the Persian Gulf, and containing Kuwait's parliament (Majlis Al-Umma), most governmental offices, the headquarters of most Kuwaiti corporations and banks, it is the indisputable political, cultural and economic center of the emirate.
The Liberation Tower (2nd highest building on the right of the photo) is the highest structure in Kuwait. Construction of the tower commenced before the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990. It was meant to be called The Kuwait Telecommunications Tower. When the invasion took place, construction, which was almost half-way complete, was put on hold. However, the structure received no damage, and construction resumed after Saddam Hussein's forces were expelled on February 27, 1991. Upon completion in 1993, the tower was renamed the Liberation Tower, symbolizing Kuwait's liberation from Iraq. The tower contains a revolving restaurant and observation platform (in the first disc-shaped pod; now closed to the public for security reasons), and also houses radio and other telecommunications offices. The structure stands at 372 meters high (1,220 ft) at its pinnacle. The roof of the second pod on the tower is 308 meters high (1,010 ft). It is similar to the CN Tower because both contain a revolving restaurant, observation platform, telecommunications equipment and the same look.
As in all Middle East, the city skyline is constantly changing also in Kuwait City . The tower on the very right is a new addition to the city scape. Weather across Middle East has changed in last few days and Kuwait is experiencing humidity over 80% from its usual 10%. Change of weather has brought some clouds to Kuwaiti sky, which beautifully enhance colors in the evening sky.

Apologies for the repetition of pictures taken at the side of Llandudno pier. This is the last - I also think it's the best but I'd appreciate people's comments on what they reckon. I'm really appreciative of the feedback I've had so far - it's really helping my learning and in addition to this being from a slightly different angle to the others I've also changed up the processing and cropped differently to alter the perspective.
As with the others this is a long exposure, taken for 120 seconds.
A further thanks to Joshua Wyborn who's processing guide (link below) has really changed the way I edit my pictures and who offered some great thoughts on composition.

Here is a view of Yaletown, a very trendy district of Vancouver, from Granville Bridge. This image was taken shortly after the conclusion of the Celebration of Light festival. The sky had transformed into this incredible hue of violets and purples. At the same time, it was a pleasure to see what almost resembled a race of boats leaving English Bay and making their way back under the bridges to their respective docks long False Creek. There were dozens upon dozens of boats, like a parade on water.

Update: This is a re-post of yesterday's photo. I decided that the original version I posted was too contrasty with excessive shadows so I uploaded a new version. I also figured out why I thought my photo was super red when it shouldn't be: Google Chrome doesn't support Color Profiles/Color Management! The photos look much better in Firefox/Safari
I spent the last couple days on a photovacation taking photos of beautiful things around northern Arizona. My photo buddy Willie and one other friend and I flew into Phoenix and drove 5 hours north to Page, AZ. We arrived in the evening, just as a storm started blowing in. We immediately went over to Horseshoe Bend to see if we could get some nice photos. Although we knew that this spot was *completely* over-photographed we hoped that the storm would give us a fairly unique shot of the bend in the Colorado River. About an hour before sunset the lightning starting getting pretty close and the rain got a little heavier than we would have liked and we decided to head back and sit in the car -- we sprinted back to protect our gear. Luckily monsoon season in Arizona means the storms only last about 20 minutes and we were able to head back to The Bend before the sunset light started.
Fortunately for Willie and I, another storm was right behind and rolled behind Horseshoe Bend just as the sun was setting. The incoming storm created an absolutely beautiful sunset, filled with light shafts reflecting off the off the rain. The water was also calm enough to reflect the sunset in the river. We definitely had a treat of a sunset!
I rented a D700 for this trip from LensRentals.com. The D700 was absolutely amazing. With my 17-35mm lens on it I could finally go really wide and this place absolutely needed a wide angle lens. We scoped out a couple locations for this shoot and eventually decided we liked this spot because it was a little bit different than most peoples photos (who take their shots a bit to the left). I liked the two rocks on the left and right from this spot -- they point into Horseshoe Bend and frame it really nicely.
Couple other notes about Horseshoe Bend: It's right off the highway and really easy to get to. There's about a 0.75 mile walk along a sandy trail to get here and pretty much anyone except a 90 year old parent could make the trek. Once you arrive at Horseshoe Bend there's a really long stretch of land that you can scope out to get your shot (there's not just one or two spots). The edge of the cliffs drops 1,000 feet down and there are no railings preventing you from falling off. We got right up to the edge to get this shot. I was afraid to let go of my camera for fear that the wind would blow it off the edge!
Additionally, there's no way to get rid of that little rock on the bottom (left/center) that sticks into the river. It's a huge rock (that only looks small due to the 17mm lens) and no composition gets rid of it.

Our train got into Paris Gard du Nord around 17:30, then we walked to our nearby hotel, just by Gare du l'Est. It was a quick turnaround, as I wanted to be out at a Parisienne landmark by sunset. Now, I know that most of my photos are at sunset, sunrise or the blue hour, but there simply is no better times to shoot landscapes, especially colour and HDR ones. There are exceptions to the rule, obviously, but 95% of the time this rule holds true, at least in my style of photography.
We got to the Eiffel Tower ridiculously early, so went for some food while I waited for the light to change. As soon as the sun started dropping, I raced to this little park in front of the tower and started snapping away. Poor Anna had to wait patiently while I ran backwards and forwards changing position, getting different angles and adapting as the light changed. When the sun got to a certain point, I noticed how it shone through this gap in the hedge. I waited until I could frame it with this little tree as well.
We were quite lucky to get any type of decent sunset, as it had been spitting a few minutes beforehand and the sky was covered in dark storm clouds. We even saw thunderstorms later on from the top of the tower. Thankfully the clouds broke up for a while as the sun dipped beneath the horizon.
The Eiffel Tower (La Tour Eiffel) was completed in 1889 in only four years and was the entrance arch to the World's Fair that year. It was designed by Gustave Eiffel and held the title of the tallest man-made structure in the world (324 metres) for 41 years until it was surpassed by the Chrysler Building. To make it look more uniform to people on the ground, the tower is actually painted in three different shades of paint; the lightest at the top and the darkest at the bottom.
This is a 7-shot HDR. You nearly always need to take more than three exposures if you're shooting directly into the sun, as the range of light is far greater than most normal scenes.
This photo is for Carol (in a barrel), as she went to Paris a few days before me and probably didn't bother taking any sunset shots.

Stunning sunset over Lake Thun.
Taken from a boat's landing place in Merligen. The striking mountain on the left is the Niesen and in the middle you see the Stockhorn.
This is my very first shot with neutral density filters. I always admired those long exposures pics with the smooth and silky water. The result is acceptable but still in need of improvement...
Lake Thun (German: Thunersee) is an Alpine lake in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. It took its name from the city of Thun, on its northern shore.
Lake Thun's approximately 2,500 km² large catchment area frequently causes local flooding after heavy rainfalls. This occurs because the river Aar (German: Aare), which drains Lake Thun, has only limited capacity to handle the excess runoff.
The lake is fed by water from Lake Brienz to the south east, which lies 6 metres higher than Lake Thun, and various streams in the Oberland, including the Kander (only since 1714). Lake Thun was created after the last ice age and was originally part of Lake Brienz. The historic combined lake is called Wendelsee by geologists and historians.
Fishing is important enough to keep a handful of professional fishers employed. In 2001 the total catch was 53,000 kg. Since 1835 passenger ships have operated on the lake. There are ten passenger ships in total, operated by the local railway company BLS Lötschbergbahn.
The Niesen is a mountain, located in the Bernese Oberland region of the Swiss Alps, overlooking Lake Thun and is often called the Swiss Pyramid.
The summit of the mountain (2362 metres) can be reached easily with a funicular from Mülenen (near Reichenbach). The construction of the Niesenbahn funicular was completed in 1910. Alongside the path of the Niesenbahn is the longest stairway in the world with 11,674 steps. It is open only once a year to the public for a stair run.
The Niesen was the subject of a number of paintings by Paul Klee, in which it was represented as a quasi-pyramid.
The Stockhorn is a mountain in the Bernese Alps, above the town of Erlenbach in Simmetal.
The Stockhorn is 2190 m high and is accessible via cable car and/or walking during 3 hours 30 minutes from the Oberstockensee. It has a restaurant at the top and is a good starting point for many hikes. There is good fishing in the two lakes right below the Stockhorn, the Oberstockensee(around 1650 m high and the Hinterstockensee ( around 1550 m high). There is a subterraneous water connection bettween the two lakes.
From the top you may enjoy, in a sunny day, a marvellous, unbelievable Panorama or sight with all the main summit of the Alps, the Eiger, Monk, Jungfrau, Diableretes and Mont Blanch,among them, the, the valley of the Aare river, Thun the Poral of the Alps,the Thunesee, the city of Interlaken and the Jura Region.

Showing you another glimpse of my city. These rock art work are created by John Felice Ceprano, who has been creating those stunning art form since 1986 at the same location on the Ottawa River. I definitely will have to go back as there are so much to see and shoot. The balance required to keep those rocks up is simply stunning. It also has become a major tourist and local attraction as you can see by the guy admiring the artwork.

I am very happy with the editing.
It's my first one in this colour.
I went to Filoli last week to see how the gardens were in August. They are thriving. I took this shot in the "cutting garden", which is their garden dedicated to growing flowers for the arrangements in the house. Filoli is an historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, located in Woodside, California and I am extremely lucky to live relatively close to it.
I hope everyone is enjoying their Wednesday.
