I was drawn to this view from the first time I saw it. Then when I saw it on the cover of a fourteener book I got a few years ago, I knew I had to give it a try. Sure enough, we got to see people ascending the steep trails up to terrain that (in my mind) clearly crossed the line from hiking to climbing - definitely cool to see. The note above shows the easiest route up to the needle from the east side - ascending up through the saddle. The route is rated as very difficult with a reputation as having the most difficult descent of any of the Colorado fourteeners. I'm guessing that means a few people have died on the way down...
As it turns out, this area used to be easier to get to and was extremely popular - on the order of 10,000 visitors each year. So much that the damage to the terrain was greater than it could bear. So the Rocky Mountain Field Institute (a non-profit group out of Colorado Springs) got involved to move the trailhead a few miles down the hill, clean the area up, and improve the trail up above timberline (a major deal, by the way). The result is a beautiful, secluded area below a couple of Colorado's most impressive fourteeners.
This image was taken just after sunrise from South Colony Lake (the lower one) below Crestone Needle in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Westcliffe, Colorado. With all the wind, finding some calm water was a challenge. In the end I did find some but I ended up liking the rippled reflection even more. What you see here is a composite from three varied exposures that were gently blended together.

In the south east of Iceland there is a place called Jökulsárlón, the glacier lagoon. Ice blocks break off from the glacier and float in the lagoon. As the lagoon is connecte to the ocean, the ice blocks are being carried to the sea through a small but strong stream.
So the coastline along this area provides a very special view as most of these ice blocks strand on the beach.
With the midnight sun, a full moon and a nice sky we really had a beautiful scenery that night.

Our past molds the person we are. We cannot choose our family and their influence, but we can make the most of our circumstances in a positive light.
Family is weird thing. Some families are close, some have profound disagreements and rifts. Ultimately they are part of your life, even if only in the past tense.
Family dynamics are wrought with emotional drama and all the baggage that comes with it. Often if requires diplomacy of great magnitude to maintain some peace and stability, not unlike politics.

Taken at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in the wing that has the Temple of Dendur, which is an Egyptian monument built ~ 15 BC. There is a reflecting pool in the room, and great glass walls, and always lots of people milling about.
Took lots of pictures that day! :-)
Hope everybody is doing great!
The longest slide! I've worked with this image before and I could treat it a thousand ways and be happy with most. I started with the building and Fireworks, added a little yellow/gray image mix and then the NYC shot. That was exactly what I wanted and all it needed was a little SC. I created a B&W layer which I masked and erased most with a wide brush leaving only a little B&W around the edges, a giant SC play!
The End!! (For now!) Time for R&R but I will catch up and THank YoU!!!!
Happy Slider Sunday Complication!!! HSS
Now that I have the building image its time to see what I can do with it. I combined the building image with various other images to see if anything came to light. The fireworks was one image I really wanted to play with - we'll see where that goes, but within the combined image was one little piece toward the center that I wanted to explore further. I added some ripple filtering to the fireworks and then a little meadow and some Sweet Peas, the color reminds me of a persimmon. Done for now.
Off to the OB, NC for a bit of R&R.
He was so happy to see the sunrise! It has been a very long time since I photographed Plankton! He was very miffed and uncooperative, but finally I got him to oblige. Even toys can't resist a good sunrise over the lake!
It has also been a long time since I posted a Toy on Thursday! *gasp* In fact ... the last time I posted was way back in January, and ... incidentally, that one was taken in Chicago too!
Happy Toy-in-the-Frame Thursday!!

It's day 60!! Oh god, how fast time has gone. Normally I wouldn't have noticed this, but now the days are counted so. Just 40 days until day 100. And that is a lot.
Okay so, I got this idea while editing yesterdays photo. That is why it is alike. And I wanted to do it on asphalt, but I honestly didn't want to risk my life. I hope no one takes the title bad, but I felt it fit.

Shibuya, Tokyo.
...
Walking in the early morning and leaving the Shibuya Excel Hotel to encounter the thousands of Tokyo commuters milling around Shibuya train station, the thing that strikes you is the silence. A silence punctuated with the click clack of high heels and the public announcements over the tannoy.
Salary men and salary women on the march. Solemn. Silent. Not yet adjusted to the new day, quietly, sleepily they move in sweeping masses, herded on to trains where mobile phones are always on silent. Nobody talking.
Fast forward to the evening, and it has all changed.
In the station, loud conversation and laughter drown out the tannoy's public announcements. The clickety-clack of high heels goes unnoticed. The early morning solemn faces are now animated, more cheerful. Smiles are seen. Salary men and salary women are unwinding. Unwinding after the working day.The march has changed its beat. The sweeping masses are no longer herded along. Time has slowed a little. On the streets, small groups gather. The rush to get where they have to go to has gone.
For now.
...rebellion in the street...have a excellent weekend my friends, remember not to compromise on having fun :-)
Love the plates on this rather epic LP640 from Washington, on its way to get stickered up for goldrush Rally 4! Quite satisfied with how this came out after a boatload of editing, lol. I'd love to hear any and all feedback below!
This really does look better on black, so click "L" and enjoy!

Who doesn't love a Cthulhu? I've been wanting to build one for awhile. The contest over at ReBrick gave me an excuse to get to work. It placed 2nd in the ReBrick Building Challenge by the way - just found out today. (July 16)
Lots of thanks to everyone who put up with my continual reminders to go to ReBrick and vote. If it weren't for you guys taking the time to help out, I wouldn't have placed at all.

We thought that this W.D. Hogan photograph was taken during the Irish Civil War. The title on our catalogue was: "A prayer vigil, during the Irish Civil War, possibly in London" - at least we were partly right!
It had been suggested that this was taken in London, because it was stamped on the back with "Photo by The Press Photographic Agency, Johnson's Court, Fleet St., E.C.4.". Have to admit I wasn't initially convinced about London, but am absolutely happy to say that I was entirely wrong...
Have a look through the comments below, to see how the location of Downing Street in London was established by our Fantastic Flickroonies, and hence an accurate date for this photo... So we've achieved two of our Triumvirate of Terrificness - Date established and Location identified. If we identify any of the people, I may faint away with happiness! :)

I'm home from my school trip and honestly I didn't shoot much except the last day where I asked if someone wanted to go down to the river.
I had a few great days. We were in south of Norway, and the nature was so nice. I have been climbing, rafting in a 7 degrees cold norwegian river, go-kart. Really had a few days with much adrenalin! It was great :)
Now I have some catching up to do.. !
Also, thank you so much Moritz, for writing me such a sweet testimonial. <3 Please go to his stream and check him out if you haven't already, he is amazing! :)
Since today I'm ill and I have more free time, I deciced to use this picture as sort of map of my other pictures of Genova, and "geo-tagged" a few of them in the map. Feel free to wander around and take a visit to this city, and tell me if you like the idea, maybe I'll add more links.

Same location of my "a dive in Genoa" shot, and same lens too (Samyang fisheye). The top of the terrace of "Palazzo Rosso" (Red Palace), Via Garibaldi, is a great panoramic place. I think that it would also be good to isolate some datail with long focal lenses (that I don't own ^__^), but the view with the fisheye is quite impressive too.

I have come to the point where I hate the 365, hate it so much. Still I do not want to end it, I really want to finish it, I want to accomplish something. Improve.

I had almost forgotten how it was like to go out in the water to shoot. The water is getting warmer and warmer indeed :)
Soo.. I have very little ideas right now, and mostly all of my ideas just come very spontaneous.
On sunday I will be leaving for a school trip.. And I am trying to figure out how to post when I'm gone haha..

Nomi comuni della ROSA CANINA:
*Rosa di macchia
*Rosa selvatica
