The sun came out for 3 minutes today, but what a great 3 minutes!

I love Nikon's D600. It's fast, amazing at low light, and has some great new features. If only Adobe would provide an update so I can process RAW!

I've been up since 2:30 AM. A disgruntled dude was walking up and down the road cursing at his woman on his cell phone. I won't repeat what he said! It was BAD!!

So naturally, I was wide awake when I noticed the moon coasting in high over the beach. I had plenty of time to grab my gear {unlike yesterday, this morning I actually had my camera with me ... but that is another story}!

The dawn patrol was in full force. The waves have been spectacular these past few days. I took hundreds of shots ... waiting for the perfect moment ... for the waves to curl, and a bird to fly over the moon. I've always wanted to capture a scene like that!

Since it was Sunday, thought I'd do some sliding!

Happy Sliders Sunday Everyone!! Hope everyone is enjoying their day!

Sparkling view of Hong Kong Skyscrapers from Victoria Peak.

During the day, one can see tall buildings and busy Victoria Harbor. At night, lit up by colorful lights, the whole scene is dazzling like a fairly-tale world. The best spot to enjoy the scene is the Peak Tower.

25 minutes after this picture was taken, the twilight sky dramatically changed, heavy cloud and darkening sky took us altogether to a different world. One of the pictures taken with heavy cloud is in the first comment box.

Adoor in Kerala holds its famous Bull Races every year around the time of Onam. It is a celebration of agrarian existence and is carried on without any grants or aid from the Government. This is a spectacular fiesta of rural Kerala. There are 2-3 other such events that are held in Kerala.

Two racing bulls are hitched together and three men come into action. Two racers with lead ropes on either side of the bulls who try to control the direction and speed if possible and one often obscured by sprays of mud and water, a jockey who rides on a small flat strip of wood.

The bulls race ahead with the men keeping desperately abreast of the thundering hooves. At the end of the racing track there is a 4-6 feet embankment of earth which acts as a protection and a marker for the bulls. The embankment gets totally crowded with onlookers. The bull racers need to turn the bull around and do a 360 degree here but most times that effort fails as the bulls in their racing frenzy would be uncontrollable.

I have no idea on the current status of the bull races. There are enough organisations howling to stop such races but the Supreme Court of India in a judgement a few months ago allowed bull/bullock cart races to go on in Punjab. So chances are that the tradition may still live on.

I took these photos when I visited Olga last July and had forgotten I had them on my iphone ;)

I got to visit Olga and her family and enjoyed seeing this beautiful artwork for a few days. My husband and I were truly fascinated at the artwork in her home and of course I fell in love with every piece on her wall.

I took these photos of the paintings to remember them because they make me happy when I look at them ;)

I wanted to share this mosaic for our FLickr friends to see, she is not just an amazing doll customizer, she is truly an amazing painter and artist tambien! (my Spanglish for you Marcos!) lol.

Chianti is a red Italian wine produced in Tuscany. The first definition of a wine-area called Chianti was made in 1716. The earliest documentation of a Chianti wine dates back to the thirteenth century when viticulture was known to flourish in the Chianti Mountains around Florence. Discover the most celebrated region of Tuscany. The vineyards of this area produce one of the best wines in the world: Chianti Classico. This Wine represents a major source of wealth for the Chianti area, no wonder then that this product has been particularly looked after and protected, in order to distinguish its quality from other wine productions. This is why a rigid legislation has been introduced to regulate the production of Classic Chianti. The first limit obviously regards the geographical area where the grape must grow. But not only the vineyards must be cultivated in the prescribed area: the whole process of wine-making, storage and bottling must take place inside the protected zone. The grape variety from which Chianti is produced is Sangiovese. The alcoholic strength must not exceed 12 %. In addition to this, there are other requirements that must be followed, regarding the average amount of dry product (24 g/l); the acidity rate (4,5 g/l), the colour (intense ruby red), the smell (fruity, with nuances of wildflowers, berries, cherries or plums) and taste (harmonious, dry, strong and with respectable tannin).

We drive on the glorious wine roads of Tuscany. We visit the farms and cellars and of-course taste the great Chianti wine. Here we visit Casale Dello Sparviero. Harmoniously set in the hills of Castellina in Chianti, in the Siena's Classico area, the estate is spread 380 hectares. The vineyards are set on the altitude of 250 metres and encircled by woods and self vegetation. The Casale dated back to XVI century. The building houses the wine cellars, where wine continues its precious evolution in large oak barrels for quality wine.

Views of Emerald Lake and some mountain ranges, located north of the community of Carcross, Yukon Territory, Canada.

The turquoise-green color of the lake is the result of sunlight reflecting off of, what is called, marl. Marl is the white calcium carbonate that settles on the lake floor. It is created by mixing the limestone remains from the ice age with the calcium in the alpine water.

One mountain especially stands out - the Gray Ridge Mountain at an elevation of 6085 feet.

The waters at Bath were very popular already in Roman times, and they in their turn took after the Celts who had built a shrine dedicated to the goddess Sulis. The Romans built both temples and baths and called the town Aquae Sulis (the water of Sulis).

According to the Anglo-Saxon chronicle the baths were destroyed in the 6th century. But not totally - the spring continued to draw attention to its healing powers, and it is now housed in a 18th century building, one of the central features of Bath. And extensive archaeological research to the Roman remains has also been made.

This is my second image from Brookes workshop in London on the Saturday just gone. I've literally been editing this all day long and was about to save and close it for the evening, when by chance I decided to add a slight gradient to the top right corner. Suddenly, it looked exactly how I'd hoped it would eventually look... after a good few hours work. I'm glad I didn't have to give up on it completely though! KD was at first terrified of this doll when I handed it to her to pose with, but when I'd finished shooting she took it with her and I didn't see it again for a good hour or so. I guess even a creepy old doll can grow on you when you're having to sit on a bed cuddling it...

Machu Picchu is possibly the most famous archaeological site in all of the Americas, and is also one of the most beautiful places anywhere on earth. It is often referred to as the Lost City of the Incas because it lay undiscovered until 24th July, 1911.

Machu Picchu is actually the name of the tall mountain to the south of the ruins, and means ‘old peak'. This is in contrast to Huayna Picchu, the sugarloaf mountain to the north of the ruins, which means ‘young peak'.

Machu Picchu was built by the Incas during the 15th century but was mysteriously abandoned.

Archeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built, occupied and abandoned all within the space of about 100 years and it didn’t take very long for the jungle vegetation to completely reclaim the mountain and hide the existence of the city for hundreds of years.

The site was never looted by the Spanish, and it is therefore the best-preserved Inca complex in existence.

I was drawn to this view from the first time I saw it. Then when I saw it on the cover of a fourteener book I got a few years ago, I knew I had to give it a try. Sure enough, we got to see people ascending the steep trails up to terrain that (in my mind) clearly crossed the line from hiking to climbing - definitely cool to see. The note above shows the easiest route up to the needle from the east side - ascending up through the saddle. The route is rated as very difficult with a reputation as having the most difficult descent of any of the Colorado fourteeners. I'm guessing that means a few people have died on the way down...

As it turns out, this area used to be easier to get to and was extremely popular - on the order of 10,000 visitors each year. So much that the damage to the terrain was greater than it could bear. So the Rocky Mountain Field Institute (a non-profit group out of Colorado Springs) got involved to move the trailhead a few miles down the hill, clean the area up, and improve the trail up above timberline (a major deal, by the way). The result is a beautiful, secluded area below a couple of Colorado's most impressive fourteeners.

This image was taken just after sunrise from South Colony Lake (the lower one) below Crestone Needle in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Westcliffe, Colorado. With all the wind, finding some calm water was a challenge. In the end I did find some but I ended up liking the rippled reflection even more. What you see here is a composite from three varied exposures that were gently blended together.

listen.

I've fallen far too hard and far too fast. It's frightening.

I'm quite proud of this, actually. This is the first sunset picture that i've actually managed to expose properly. I love this field, but I did have to climb through a hedge full of nettles and thorns to get in to it, bad idea, my legs really hurt now.

But the last few days have been lovely, full of sunbathing and picnics by the river and laughing.

Taken at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in the wing that has the Temple of Dendur, which is an Egyptian monument built ~ 15 BC. There is a reflecting pool in the room, and great glass walls, and always lots of people milling about.

Took lots of pictures that day! :-)

Hope everybody is doing great!

The longest slide! I've worked with this image before and I could treat it a thousand ways and be happy with most. I started with the building and Fireworks, added a little yellow/gray image mix and then the NYC shot. That was exactly what I wanted and all it needed was a little SC. I created a B&W layer which I masked and erased most with a wide brush leaving only a little B&W around the edges, a giant SC play!

The End!! (For now!) Time for R&R but I will catch up and THank YoU!!!!

Happy Slider Sunday Complication!!! HSS

Now that I have the building image its time to see what I can do with it. I combined the building image with various other images to see if anything came to light. The fireworks was one image I really wanted to play with - we'll see where that goes, but within the combined image was one little piece toward the center that I wanted to explore further. I added some ripple filtering to the fireworks and then a little meadow and some Sweet Peas, the color reminds me of a persimmon. Done for now.

Off to the OB, NC for a bit of R&R.

He was so happy to see the sunrise! It has been a very long time since I photographed Plankton! He was very miffed and uncooperative, but finally I got him to oblige. Even toys can't resist a good sunrise over the lake!

It has also been a long time since I posted a Toy on Thursday! *gasp* In fact ... the last time I posted was way back in January, and ... incidentally, that one was taken in Chicago too!

Happy Toy-in-the-Frame Thursday!!

It's day 60!! Oh god, how fast time has gone. Normally I wouldn't have noticed this, but now the days are counted so. Just 40 days until day 100. And that is a lot.

Okay so, I got this idea while editing yesterdays photo. That is why it is alike. And I wanted to do it on asphalt, but I honestly didn't want to risk my life. I hope no one takes the title bad, but I felt it fit.
