Happy New Year !!!
PS - As seen from above flic.kr/p/2hV7ofH
Taken on my recent trip to Norfolk between Boxing day and New Years Eve. Mundesley beach is one of my favourite beaches in Norfolk to photograph. It has a multitude of contrasting surfaces and angles to work with and in this shot i think i got them all.
Os deseo a todos un Año Nuevo lleno de paz, amor, salud y felicidad.
I wish you all a New Year full of peace, love, health and happiness
Well, the camera did (important note: no cameras were harmed in the making of this capture) ;-)
No, this is not my new camera / lens combo taken with my old camera; as you know, I'm a happy MFT user, and I'm not planning on a system change. This is a fellow photographer's camera, and in the lens you can see the reflections of star-shaped lights of one of the many beautiful Christmas illuminations at the Tierpark Berlin. Fun shot taken during a walk with Flickr friends. Happy weekend and fourth Sunday of Advent, dear Flickr friends, Christmas is around the corner :-)
Cotopaxi is on the right (5,897 m / 19,347 ft);
Chimborazo is in the middle (6,263 m / 20,547 ft);
El Altar is on the left (5,319 m / 17,451 ft).
In fact, the valley owns eight volcanoes inside, one the reasons Alexander von Humboldt named the region "Avenue of Volcanoes".
When many think of Ecuador, we often think of Galapagos and the equator, but it’s not always the case that Ecuador is thought of in tandem with the majestic Avenue of the Volcanoes that it sits along. That’s right, Ecuador is full-on Volcano Country! But fear not, for this does not by any means detract from how impressively safe the country is to visit! If anything, it adds tremendously to the overall geographic and scenic beauty that’s found throughout. Ecuador is home to 47 volcanoes in total (both active and extinct), with 15 in volcanoes Galapagos and 32 on the mainland.
The small country is the third in number of volcanoes, it only loses to the continent countries, USA and Russia, but it does not lose in altitude, the highest in the world.

With its elevation of 5,023 metres (16,480 ft), Tungurahua just over tops the snow line (about 4,900 metres (16,100 ft)).
Tungurahua's top is snow-covered and did feature a small summit glacier which melted away after the increase of volcanic activity in 1999.

The Garganta de Fogo Volcano, its crater ...
It has a 183 meters/600 feet wide crater.
Most of the volcano is covered by snow.

*Got my fourth 1,000 faves on September 13th, 2020.
My first view of the Avenue of the Volcanoes at 6:52 am (a 4h58m climb) from the Refugio (Hut).
There are several volcanoes, but the most striking are the Chimborazo on your right (I will climb it tomorrow), the highest in the world and Cotopaxi, the second highest volcano in Ecuador (I climbed it in the first 24 hours).
***
Climbing an active volcano is complicated.
The crater is just below me. It took years for the Ecuadorian government to release climbing permits.
Me knowing the risks and signing the papers. It is a great pleasure for Pachamama to accept me, agradiseyki.

Mountain biking Cotopaxi was easily the most scenic, exciting bike ride of my life. And one of my favorite day trips, ever.
Lenght: 40 km/24,85 miles.

1,277 meters (4,189 ft) above sea level to the summit of the volcano.
****
At 07:00 AM we left Quito and after driving south for 1 and a half hours on the Pan-American highway we reached the park entrance of Cotopaxi National Park. We drove through pine forest and soon reached the Visitors’ center of the park. After visiting the Center we continued the ascent in our 4-wheel drive vehicle until we reached the highest point of the tour, 4.500 meters/15.000 feet. The view from this point is stunning and on a clear day we are able to see 8 volcanoes. Not our day.
We then put on helmets, gloves and protective pads and the bike adventure on the world’s highest active volcano could begin. The first 8 km took us down 700 m on dirt roads through volcanic ash and tundra landscape. At 3.800 m. we actually had to do some pedalling while we headed down another 8 km between volcanic rocks and wild horses to our lunch spot by an Inca ruin at 3.700 m. We saw some condors and caracaras. We put the bikes back on the jeep and head for the lake of Limpiopungo at 3.800 m where we started the 16 km downhill biking on dirt and paved roads through pine forest. After this the bike adventure was over for now and around 16h00 we were back in Quito.
This is the standard itinerary that they always try to respect. Please keep in mind that due to the nature of this tour we sometimes have to be flexible because of weather conditions, or biking skills of other participants.
Days: 1 Day
Location: Cotopaxi
Lenght: 31 km/19 miles
Max. Altitude: 4.500 meters/15.000 feet
Min. Altitude: 3.200 meters/11.300 feet
Difficulty Level: Family Advenure Moderate

I cannot forget the 4.5 magnitude quake in Quito -
10 km (32,808 ft) far from the epicenter at 3:56.
I was sleeping in my hotel in Quito and everything started shaking in my first night.

“There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more”

I mucked up the left hand image trying to get between passing trucks. I beat the a6000 auto focus again!
DSC04333_34 ICE stitch
9433pix wide!
The ICE software blended the out of focus, #unsharp, image on IG, with the sharp image of the centre silo!
I will have to revisit this another day and be more careful!
I think the camera focused on the bushes and barbed wire fence in the foreground....
Now hear the song, I just heard on Macca..

An informative note from flic.kr/p/2hAYcLq
There are tonnes of sites on the internet, and here is one, this from a newspaper about a new silo recently painted. We were close to this but missed it, apparently, and it’s a beauty by the looks.

Collage from 3 photos of fading purple coneflowers (Echinacea purpurea) in late summer. The still beautifully colored flowers become paler and slowly turn into small sculptures.
An interesting and beautiful process to follow.

After a massive star exploded, it left behind this supernova remnant observed by Chandra X-ray Observatory and the Hubble Space Telescope. The Chandra data (red, green and blue) show multimillion-degree gas and the blast wave from the supernova. The light brown region in the upper right of the remnant is a dense cloud of gas and dust that reflects optical light detected by Hubble.

The beauty of the Val Lamartinien near Mâcon has been celebrated by the poet Lamartine who spent part of his life there.
Its charm is at its peak in autumn with the beautiful colors that the landscape takes, especially with the vineyard.
Here is a good example: the gold of the vines under the sun composes a marvelous foreground for the splendid Chapelle des Moines from Berzé, an 11th century Clunysian outpost.
The Rocks of Solutré and Vergisson watch over the horizon.

Its a testament to persistence. I live about 45 minutes from this viewpoint, Jonsrud Viewpoint, near Sandy Oregon. Because this is fairly close, and so cool looking, an image form here has been on my list for a long time. And I go, often. Every time a strikeout. This is the first image I have ever posted from here. I have been there about 6 times, and I finally walked away with an image I liked.
This is a tough spot to shoot. It has great fog in the valley in the morning, but sunrises back-lite Mt. Hood. You can shoot a sunset, but then you don't get the fog. You can see this in many of the mages people post from here. They have fog, and good color in the sky, and then they wash out Hood in the processing and it looks horrible. You just can't get it all when you shoot from here unless you let your tripod sit there all day and shoot both. However, then creeps in the third issue. Clouds. If you live in Portland you know, Hood is a cloud magnet. If you want a sunrise with clouds to catch the color, then you often (99.999 percent of the time) loose Hood in those clouds. If you see Hood, you usually have no clouds. To get hood with clouds around her but not obscuring her, you need patience, and tons of it.
So in this image, I opted for the fog. Clouds came in about 10 minutes after I shot this, but they swallowed Hood. Sigh. Not an easy place to shoot.
The last challenge, the right tripod location. You have to get here early to get the primo tripod spot. Here, I had to show up 1.5 hours before sunrise and wait there, to steak out my spot. When I walked away there was about 12 photographers there. I can't imagine how many there would be if the conditions were even more ideal.
So my hat is off to anyone who got the great trifecta- detail on Hood, colored clouds in the sky and fog in the valley. Its a near impossible feat.
The Roche de Vergisson and the pretty little village of Vergisson in the middle of its vineyards shine under the last fires of late afternoon's autumn sun
