Trying to catch up my delay ... (which is still very big) ... but I need to post a new photo from time to time ...

Thank you in advance for all your faves and comments. I might answer several WEEKS/MONTHS later. And I might post several photos in the meantime.

Kulamanu, built in 1946, was originally named Delaware Belle. She was subsequently renamed Hudson Belle and George Washington. As George Washington, the Wilson Line operated her as a river cruise vessel on the Potomac River.

Robert J. Halcro, the owner of Windjammer Cruises, bought the George Washington. The ship’s name was officially changed in March 1980 to Rella Mae (in honor of Mr. Halcro’s mother). Four steel masts and a bowsprit were added to the ship at a shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia before she sailed for Hawai‘i via the Panama Canal and Los Angeles.

Rella Mae arrived in Honolulu Harbor on Sunday, 13 July 1980 and began operations as a dinner cruise ship in August. ACES Dinner Cruises bought Windjammer Cruises in June 1996 and renamed the ship Kulamanu. Due to economic factors, the company shut down operations in May 1998 and put the ship up for sale.

Pacific Cruises owned the ship in the early 2000s. She was put up for auction in July 2006 but did not sale and continued to languish at Pier 7.

In September 2018, there was an unsuccessful attempt to sail the ship to San Francisco, California amid pressure on her owner to remove her from the harbor. Finally, the Kulamanu (IMO 8836429), which was still tied up on the Diamond Head side of Pier 7, was towed out of the harbor on Thursday, 20 June 2019. She was taken to Kalaeloa Barbers Point Harbor, where work began to prepare her for disposal at sea. The ship was finally disposed of offshore on 11 July 2019, just 68 days after the photograph above was taken.

A rose is a woody perennial flowering plant of the genus Rosa, in the family Rosaceae. There are over three hundred species and thousands of cultivars. They form a group of plants that can be erect shrubs, climbing, or trailing, with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles. Flowers vary in size and shape and are usually large and showy, in colours ranging from white through yellows and reds. Most species are native to Asia, with smaller numbers native to Europe, North America, and northwestern Africa. Species, cultivars and hybrids are all widely grown for their beauty and often are fragrant. Roses have acquired cultural significance in many societies. Rose plants range in size from compact, miniature roses, to climbers that can reach seven meters in height. Different species hybridize easily, and this has been used in the development of the wide range of garden roses. R_29811

The East Side Gallery ( East-Side-Gallery) memorial in Berlin-Friedrichshain is a permanent open-air gallery on the longest surviving section of the Berlin Wall in Mühlenstraße between the Berlin Ostbahnhof and the Oberbaumbrücke along the Spree. It consists of a series of murals painted directly on a 1,316 m (4,318 ft) long remnant of the Berlin Wall, located near the centre of Berlin, on Mühlenstraße in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg.

In the spring of 1990, after the opening of the Berlin Wall, this section was painted by 118 artists from 21 countries. The artists commented on the political changes of 1989/90 in a good hundred paintings on the side of the Wall that was formerly facing East Berlin. Due to urban development measures, it is no longer completely preserved, and instead of the originals from then, only the replicas from 2009 exist today.

The actual border at this point was the Kreuzberg bank of the Spree. The gallery is located on the so-called hinterland wall, which closed off the border area to East Berlin. Mühlenstrasse, one of the main arterial roads to the south, ran along these border installations. Due to the spatial conditions, the previously usual concrete pipes were already installed here, so that the interior wall in this area was atypically optically, but somewhat elevated, resembling the outer wall.

The gallery has official status as a Denkmal, or heritage-protected landmark. According to the Künstlerinitiative East Side Gallery e.V., an association of the artists involved in the project, "The East Side Gallery is understood as a monument to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the peaceful negotiation of borders and conventions between societies and people", and has more than three million visitors per year.

It was a wonderful early morning in Monument Valley. I took the Scenic Loop Drive for the 3rd time, but it was the first time that I visited the John Ford Point - and I think it was worth while - well knowing that my photograph sells more of a wonderful illusion.

Calçado and Cristal Peaks covered by fog at the end of the afternoon and without sunset.

We tested the trail to see if it was possible for all of us to climb the peaks at dawn. It was.

We trekked 5.22 km / 3,24 miles in 3:22 hours.

View of the Alaska Range, including Mount Foraker (17,400 ft/5304 m), Mount Hunter/Begguya (14,573 ft/4442 m), and Denali (20,310 feet/6190 m), from Talkeetna, Alaska

Having not had the opportunity to see Denali (the tallest peak in North America) on my previous trip to Alaska, it was high on my wish list for this trip. Unfortunately our helicopter flightseeing tour was canceled due to fog, so my hopes rested on a trip up to the town of Talkeetna. After two days of clouds and snow, the weather was not looking promising; as we drove out of Anchorage, the sky remained gray and occasionally spitting icy flakes.

For much of the drive through miles of snow-covered boreal forest, past small communities and long stretches of nothing but snow and trees (and the occasional moose, which thrilled both my daughter and I), the forest blocked the view toward the mountains. As we turned off the highway toward Talkeetna however, the trees began to thin out and I could catch an occasional glimpse of the the Alaska Range, and what I thought was a hint of blue sky. My hopes rose - perhaps there would be a chance to see Denali after all.

Then the road turned and suddenly, ahead of me I could see it, the glorious Alaska Range, bathed in brilliant sunshine, laying just underneath a thick layer of clouds! My next thought was to hope that the clouds would not descend again before I reached the overlook pullout above Talkeetna. Luck was on my side however, as Denali and the other majestic peaks remained in clear view not only from the overlook but long enough to marvel at an unobstructed view from down in the town. (The snowy foreground here is actually the Talkeetna river, frozen and covered with deep snow.)

It was an absolutely breathtaking sight to witness, and I stood there with a mixture of awe and reverence as the view and the moment soaked deeply into my soul. It is a memory that I will carry with me for a long time.

SÜDAFRIKA( South-Africa) von Pretoria Richtung Krüger-Park, reizvolle Ausblicke,

Shiprock is a monadnock rising nearly 1,583 feet (482.5 m) above the high-desert plain of the Navajo Nation in San Juan County, New Mexico, United States. Its peak elevation is 7,177 feet (2,187.5 m) above sea level. It is about 10.75 miles (17.30 km) southwest of the town of Shiprock, which is named for the peak.

The shape of this rock is reminiscent of a 19th century clipper.

Governed by the Navajo Nation, the formation is in the Four Corners region and plays a significant role in Navajo religion, myth, and tradition. It is located in the center of the area occupied by the Ancient Pueblo People, a prehistoric Native American culture of the Southwest United States often referred to as the Anasazi.

So much for the prose. But we also had a special encounter there, which I would like to describe to you.

Since this rock is sacred to the Navajos, we parked in the nearest parking lot in front of it and after a short look I discovered this beautiful puddle in which the Shiprock was wonderfully reflected. I was setting up my tripod and setting up my camera when a small red car appeared from the right, then turned onto the path you can see here and slowly approached us. Already annoyed that some earthlings have nothing sacred, I expressed my displeasure and we waited until the car passed us. My friend said I shouldn't judge so hastily, maybe there were good reasons that they drove around here. When the car was level with us, it stopped and the driver rolled down the window, so it was easy to see that they were indigenous people - an old man and a young girl. He asked us what we are doing here and where we are from...both got out and so we had an interesting conversation with interesting people. The man was very friendly and he introduced himself as Herman (a German name given to him by his mother because the doctor who gave birth to him was a German named Herman...). Since we are from Germany ourselves, the whole thing was quite amusing. In the course of the conversation, we learned that the girl was his niece, and it was her birthday on that very day. So we decided without further ado to sing her a birthday song - Happy Birthday... and she told us with a bright face that she had never received a birthday song before...

We had already said our goodbyes and were about to drive back towards Shiprock (the town) when the little red car came towards us, stopped and the old man gave us his beautiful Indian jewelery which he had just been wearing - unbelievable...we thanked him so much and drove on...a few miles down the highway towards Shiprock I suddenly saw in the rear view mirror a small red car coming, flashing its headlights...it passed us, signaled right, braked in front of us and pulled to the curb. ..we followed him and stopped behind the little red wagon...it was our indigenous friends of course and Herman jumped out of the wagon and came up to us and asked us if we could sing the birthday song for his niece again - namely in German :-) which of course we gladly did. We took his niece in the middle and sang her Happy Birthday in German and Herman recorded the whole thing on video with his smartphone...

What can I say? It was a beautiful encounter of a special kind... and if you can make someone happy, then you're very happy about it. With good wishes and that we should visit them next time, we said goodbye.

This little story is now firmly connected to Shiprock for me and I also derive a New Year's resolution for myself from this. I'm trying not to judge too quickly - Herman, thank you!

I wish you all a wonderful and happy new year!

Was soll man dazu sagen?

Is this the kind of presents you would love to get this evening?

It was a beautiful morning at Bryce Point in Bryce Canyon National Park. We were there before sunrise and managed to get a few more stargazing before deciding to take a time lapse video to follow the sunlight slowly filling the canyon and displacing the shadows - an intriguing story. And it's good that I have two cameras - so I was able to take some interesting telephoto shots at the same time. The light was just wonderful and the hoodoos started to glow in the first sunlight...

The Köhlbrand ("coalbrand") is an arm of the Süderelbe into the Norderelbe. It is the main entrance to the container terminal Altenwerder (CTA).

The Köhlbrand originated in the course of the 14. and fifteen centuries. On its banks, charcoal was fired and sold by local coalmen to the shipowners (hence the name “coalbrand”).

Dear flickr friends,

3 weeks and 9500 photos later, I'm back in Germany - with a lot of jet lag, but with the experience of another great photo trip to the Southwest of the USA. This time I went with two friends - a great tour, exhausting but worth it...we only had one day of bad photo weather - which followed this exciting sunset.

A thunderstorm came up and the play of colors was unique - I've been here a few times at sunrise - but almost always without clouds - this was a completely different number... the air was so full of electricity that your hair felt like when Struwwelpeter (shock-headed Peter) stood up tangled - that looked really bizarre, especially on women with long hair - I had never experienced anything like that. And in retrospect it was good that I didn't follow my friend's advice to leave this place immediately because there was a risk of being struck by lightning...so I finished this panorama photo - consisting of 2 in total rows of 4 images using my nodal adapter.

It rained heavily that night and as it continued the following day we unfortunately couldn't do our booked Canyon X photo tour due to flooding - all slot canyons around Page were closed...but that's moaning on a high level - because, as always, such storms are the best prerequisite for interesting photos...

Dramatischer Sonnenuntergang am Horseshoe Bend, Arizona

Liebe flickr-Freunde,

Gently down the stream,

Merrily merrily, merrily, merrily

Life is but a dream. . .
