This was shot on a tripod with my Sigma 10-20mm ultra wide angle lens attached to my Canon EOS Rebel T1i. Three exposures (-2..0..+2 EV) was processed in Photomatix. Tone mapped and detail enhanced. In Photoshop, increased overall saturation, curve adjustment, and unsharp mask.

The Kakehi (Bamboo Fountain) is a waterspout consisting of a vertical bamboo pipe in which the internal part of each node (joint) has been bored out to accept a plastic hosepipe. At the head of the vertical bamboo pipe a "Komagshira" or scorched timber joint drilled out to accept the vertical and horizontal bamboo pipes, the komagashira timber top section is either square in section or round. The" Kakehi " has a number of uses, used to feed water into a stone water basin (Chozubachi) or to trickle water into the end of a Deer Scarer (Shishi-Odoshi). The Shishi Odoshi was originally used by Japanese farmers to scare off deer and boar from their rice crops, and later it has become part of the Japanese garden

Non-hdr image.

In preparation of a free buffet lunch I thought I'd get a little exercise cycling on my wife's battery powered mamachari (bike with large baskets) and came across this unexpected wonderful sunset.

This was taken using my wide angle lense and cropped at the bottom to remove the beach from the shot.

Slightly processed to give a nice cinematic film feel.

There is nothing better than trying to compose a photo while walking on slippery rock layers set at a 45 degree angle while unpredictable seas lash out at you! But the light was so good for about 3 minutes.... No HDR.

The rock layers which record the geologic history of Montana De Oro State Park just south of Big Sur (3 hour drive south of San Francisco and 3 hours north from LA), can be read like books in an ancient library. This is one of my two favorite spots for photography that I've seen along the entire California coast.

The problem is that each accessable spot needs to be researched before you can tell if it is good for a photo. And the tide level determines whether it is good. So you have to commit to a spot that may take you 20 minutes to extricate yourself from, should you decide that it is no good. And then you miss the good light that may fall somewhere else. So even with planning, getting a good shot here is definitely hit or miss even with perfect light in the sky. Also, this place is on the way to nowhere, so you have to make it your intention to spend the day here and stay overnight nearby.

But it is SO worth it. It would take months of living nearby during the stormiest part of winter before I would feel I had captured the spirit of this place.

The map shows EXACTLY where this is.

I was looking forward to October the 2nd (the Birth of a great leader Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi) to dedicate this picture but unfortunately work and personal life did take most of my time . So I woke up earlier than normal time and finished it just this morning. I figured, there's no time limit to dedicate something to a great man like him, right?

I'll see you all very soon in a image near you ;-)

This is the only one of its kind left in the world.

Loha Prasat (Lohaprasada) Loha = metal, Prasat = castle

This Metal Castle was built in 1846. Standing 36 metres high with 37 surrounding spires.

Most people'd never known that the castle was there until they tore down the old movie theater that blocked it from view in 1989.

Oh and thanks everybody for the feedback on remotes for my D300, my friend Wim told me he had a spare remote which I could get if I want it, well of course :)

Not far from the "Gladiator" field, just south of Pienza, a town and "comune" in the province of Siena, in the Val d'Orcia in Tuscany (central Italy), between the towns of Montepulciano and Montalcino, is the "touchstone of Renaissance urbanism. Pienza was rebuilt from a village called Corsignano, which was the birthplace (1405) of Aeneas Silvius Piccolomini (Italian: Enea Silvio Piccolomini), a Renaissance humanist born into an exiled Sienese family, who later became Pope Pius II. Once he became Pope, Piccolomini had the entire village rebuilt as an ideal Renaissance town. Intended as a retreat from Rome, it represents the first application of humanist urban planning concepts, creating an impetus for planning that was adopted in other Italian towns and cities and eventually spread to other European centers.

The rebuilding was done by Florentine architect Bernardo Gambarelli (known as Bernardo Rossellino) who may have worked with the humanist and architect Leon Battista Alberti, though there are no documents to prove it for sure. Alberti was in the employ of the Papal Curia at the time and served as an advisor to Pius. Construction started about 1459. Pope Pius II consecrated the Duomo on August 29, 1462, during his long summer visit. His included a detailed description of the structures in his Commentaries, written during the last two years of his life.

To the next stop on the tour...

Which is an epic view over the historic city of Warsaw in Poland photographed from the 70 meter high Bell Tower of St. Anne's Church that overlooks the vibrant Castle Square.

You can see the Warsaw Castle off to the right here and rising high above the old town, the green roof of St. John's Cathedral just to the left of it.

While I was up in the tower shooting it started to rain really hard, thank heavens there was a roof over my head, so I decided to stay put and keep on shooting these stunning views till the rain stopped. Unfortunately for me it didn't look like the rain was going to let up, it was raining for like 20 minutes with no end in sight (and from my great vantage point no end in sight was for a long time) So I headed down and started to make my way back to the hostel. Of course I was disappointed, this was such a unique and colourful city and I was hoping to get some shots at sunset and during the blue hour.

Upset, I walked down the steps of the bell tower and listened to the rain ruin my one night in Warsaw, then I turned and headed towards the cable cars. =(

All of a sudden like a gift from the heavens the sky opened up and the sun started to pour over and set on the city. What luck!! Could you believe it?! So of course I continued to shoot for the remainder of the night with a huge smile on my face!! =)

So in my next few photographs you will follow me on a night to remember and say goodbye to Warsaw with me.

Till next time, enjoy the view from here in LARGE. No HDR or Blending used here, just added some contrast/saturation and brightened it in Camera RAW

+++ I hope all of you have a great weekend, TGIF!! +++

This is my calico cat Cassie sitting on a rail on my front porch. That's her favorite place to be now as she watches the hummingbirds buzz around her... out of reach, thank goodness.

I am dedicating this photo to one of the sweetest ladies you'll ever know.... AMANDA (craftedfromtheheart). She was one of my first Flickr friends and I was drawn to her beautiful photography, her bubbly personality and her fighting spirit to face all the difficult challenges that life seems to have tossed in her direction. Despite her adversities, she keeps on going and fills our comment boxes with humor & sweet words. I admire her so much.

I chose this particular shot because Amanda loves all sorts of animals. She has possums and kookaburra that visit her daily. They know she is a gentle soul that can be trusted. How lucky they are to have Amanda looking after them.

Amanda, thank you so much for the beautiful testimony you wrote for me. You are a blessing in so many people's lives, including mine. Remember, you really ARE an angel, so stretch out those wings and keep on flying........

P.S..... If you visit Amanda's page and see her photos blacked out, fear not. She's being harassed by a coward who keeps flagging her photos. Seriously, how can a photo of a flower be considered inappropriate? It displeases me when people use Flickr resources as a weapon against other members. So sad.

Few cities in the world fire the imagination like Bangkok. Ornate palaces that host royal processions, Buddhist temples that witness monks chanting ancient sutras, canals that lead to a maze of water markets, night bazaars that never sleep - have long proved a powerful magnet for travellers. In this sprawling metropolis, Banyan Tree Bangkok, a 5-star luxury hotel in Sathorn road, offers a spectacular rooftop restaurant and bar - Vertigo Grill & Moon Bar on the elevated 61th floor. The hostess Suritawa welcomes us with the hospitality Thailand is famous for. The greater Bangkok area has a population of around 12 million. This has in turn shifted the country from being a rather homogeneous Thai population to an increasingly vibrant mix of Western, Indian and Chinese people, giving the city a cosmopolitan status. Bangkok is known in Thai as Krung Thep Mahanakhon. The ceremonial name translates it to The city of angels.

Photo taken on the 62th floor of the Banyan Tree Hotel- Sathorn road in Bangkok at Moon Bar opening hours: 6.30pm - 11pm (weather permitting). Hostess Suritawa welcomes us. It's one of the best bars in the world!

Thx Burt Youngers for this Bangkok tip!
