These lights - that look like old lamps - are everywhere in São Chico city, mainly in the central avenue. I never liked them so much, I think they seem to have come from a thriller movie or something.

UPDATE ON: April 15,2009

So I am back from my wonderful vacation in Italy with my best-bud Uli. We went on an amazing motorbike-trip for one week - first we went to the Dolomites for 3 days and rode numerous Cols (for example Timmelsjoch, Jaufenpass, passo di Falzarego, Sellajoch, Pordoi, Passo di Pelegrino etc.) and then we went to the Lago di Garda (Malcesine) for some relaxation and swimming.

This image was taken at the "Passo di Falzarego" at 2105m (6900ft) sealevel.

And in case you ever wondered:

YES it is possible to eat Pizza EVERY evening for 5 days :-))

I have 14 GB of Italy images to process (plus the pics from last week-ends wedding) so I might be quite busy and not find the time to visit all your wonderful streams... will do so later!

This is my contribution to the Sunday church shot Group. Would love if you would like to participate as well! Wish you a fantastic sunday!!

Fansipan or Fan Si Pan (Phan Xi Păng in Vietnamese) is the highest mountain

in Southeast Asia, at 3,143 m. or 10,340 ft. Located in Lào Cai province in Northwest Vietnam, 9 km southwest of Sa Pa Township in the Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range. Fansipan is dubbed "the Roof of Indochina"; it is to be approved as one of the very few ecotourism spots of Vietnam, with about 2,024 floral varieties and 327 faunal species. The topography of Fansipan is varied. Muong Hoa Valley, at the lowest altitude (950 to 1,000 m.), is created by a narrow strip of land at the base on the east side of the mountain.

Climbing Fansipan -- Fansipan Tourism companies in the area will arrange hikes to the summit taking from one to three days with a local guide. A very small village is located at around 1 500 m where accommodation and food is offered. Further up, at 2 800 m, is an overnight camp. Coordinates -- 22°18′12″N 103°46′31″E

The Shrine of Remembrance, located in St Kilda Road, Melbourne, is one of the largest war memorials in Australia, and resides in Kings Domain. It was built as a memorial to the men and women of Victoria who served in World War I. It now serves as a memorial for all Australians who served in war and it is the site of annual observances of ANZAC Day (25 April) and Remembrance Day (11 November).

Beneath the Sanctuary is the Crypt containing a bronze statue of a father and son, representing the two generations who served in the two world wars. Around the walls are panels listing every unit of the AIF, down to battalion and regiment, along with the colours of their shoulder patch. The Crypt is hung with the standards of various battalions and regiments, listing their battle honours.

When most people hear the name Daisy Mae, they think of beautiful Daisy Mae Scragg who was hopelessly in love with Li'l Abner in cartoonist Al Capp's comic strip. The Daisy Mae pictured above is one of our three calico cats. Daisy's two sisters are Lily Pad and Karma Anne. Best seen in large size view. (But if you view in large size, Daisy insists you give her a treat!!!)

I did another session of double drops collision splashes last night. About 4hs of work, 352 photos of which 41 I got reasonable in focus, with good shape, light and colors, but none came out really outstanding as I'm looking for... well, it's always a learning process... the setup is still in place and I got new ink for tonight, let's see what I get.

Please suggest color combinations!

The Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex is a large former industrial site in the city of Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It has been inscribed into the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites since December 14, 2001 and is one of the anchor points of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

The first coal mine on the premises was founded in 1847, mining activities took place from 1851 until December 23, 1986. For decades starting in the late 1950s, the two parts of the site, Zollverein Coal Mine and Zollverein Coking Plant (erected 1957-1961, closed on June 30, 1993), ranked among the largest of their kinds in Europe. Shaft 12, built in Bauhaus style, was opened in 1932 and is considered an architectural and technical masterpiece, earning it a reputation as the "most beautiful coal mine in the world".

After it had been closed down in 1993, the coking plant was planned to be sold to China. The negotiations failed and it was subsequently threatened to be demolished. However, another project of the state of NRW set the coal mine on a list of future exhibition sites resulting in first gentle modifications and the cokery also became an official memorial in 2000.

On its 25th session in December 2001, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared both the sites of the shafts 12 and 1/2/8 and the cokery a World Heritage Site.

Recently I took my camera along. This was the first shot I haven taken on Friday, 10th of July at 6:54 am.

The night was quite cold and it rained. Though when I got up the sun was shining and there were only a couple of clouds around. I left the house and walked passed our neighbour's fence. Between the fence there are some stone posts which have an even surface. The water from the last night was still on it cause the sun didn't have the strength to remove it yet.

I am sorry still to have so less time...

Seen in the Diamond District (crossing of 5th avenue and 47th street).

Shot with the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 wide open.

Thanks Jack for your flattering testimonial

Last week-end I went to the Eifel in Germany to visit my parents. Among many other things I did one very special thing:

I rode an Audi R8, 4,2 Litre, 420 HP/PS for one hour. DUDE what an amazing incredible car!!!! When you push the pedal to the medal and the 420 horses behind you begin to galopp - hell breaks loose :-)))

It was an amazing experience but you can guess that it was kind of frustrating to get back in my 75PS Golf afterwards... Bummer... :-)

See pics of the car below in the comments (picz are enlargeable).

If I fell in love with you would you promise to be true,

And help me understand?

'Cos I've been in love before, and I found that love was more,

Than just holding hands.

If I give my heart to you,

I must be sure from the very start,

That you would love me more than her.

If I trust in you, oh please,

Don't run and hide,

If I love you too, oh please don't hurt my pride like her.

Happy Monday Blues..I'm feeling it.

I grew up asking many questions about life.

There was a field of uncertainty l would eventually learn to tread.

A sea of frightening events and catastrophy I would learn to cross.

But in between these rainy days - there is that speck of light I also learned to appreciate.

In those rare days of trimuph - I shout a joyous hymn of Victory.

These little larva will metamorhasize into sawflies. First they must put on some chow. To do so they consume pine needles and can rapidly strip a small tree. When alarmed they raise up as seen in this photo. My wife says their little red heads look like baseball caps.

"You may choose to look the other way but you can never say again that you did not know." Abolitionist William Wilberforce

I'd like to add that some people have suspected that this was a Photoshop trick. Believe it or not these larva like to stick together. I have seen large numbers congregate to eat one little pine tree. Don't know why they do it but they move in synchronized way. It is probably a defensive mechanism of behavior. Look in the group behavior album to the bottom right to see more shots of insects gathering in groups.

Jumping spiders are members of the spider family Salticidae, which contains around 5,000 species of spider, roughly 7% of the total number of spider species in the world. This large spider family is incredibly diverse, with representatives found all over the world. As the common name “jumping spider” would suggest, jumping spiders are most notable for their jumping ability. Some spiders are capable of jumping as much as 40 times their body length, relying on a very complex internal structure.

"Reflections On The Train"

From "The Train Project"

This is probably my favourite shot from my South Island trip. It was taken at Kelland Ponds, just south of Twizel.

Normally when I shoot a location, I run around all over the place trying different compositions and angles while the light is good, but here I found my spot and didn't move an inch.

As the sun was setting, it would break through the clouds every now and again lighting up the trees, showing off their incredible autumn colours, and I would click the shutter. It was kinda refreshing just standing there admiring the scene rather than running around like a headless chicken!

I left this place with a big smile on my face. :)
