This massive clock and the dancing dolls are powered by water. No electricity is used to drive the mechanism.....................Less Carbon Foot Print.
This place is in midst of Black Forest. Here is well appointed canteen where you can treat yourself to true Black Forest Cake.
It is a true delight indeed.

The National day of Qatar ( 18 December)
Every December 18th, we celebrate Qatar National Day in commemoration of the historic day in 1878 when Sheikh Jassem, the founder of the State of Qatar, succeeded his father, Sheikh Muhammad Bin Thani, as the ruler and led the country towards unity.
December 18th is the day we remember how Qatari national unity was achieved and how Qatar became a distinct and respected nation out of a society torn apart by conflicting tribal loyalties, devoid of security and order, and overrun by invaders.
Qatar's National Day is about honoring the heroes, leaders and people who built this country.
It's also a chance to reflect on the principles on which Qatar was founded - truth, justice, friendship and brotherhood and to remember the values of generosity, loyalty responsibility and sacrifice which are key to Qatar's success today.
Qatar nation has proved in the past, present, and God willing, the future, to be capable of bringing prosperity and building good relationships, both internally and throughout the Arab and Islamic world.
Qatar has proved that it's more than just oil, gas and commerce, but also a guiding light for education, knowledge, innovation and freedom.
Sheik Jassem died on July 17the 1913 ending a fruitful and memorable life.
He was succeeded by his son Sheikh Abdulla bin Jassem Al Thani.
MEANING OF THE FLAG : The white portion of the Qatar flag symbolizes peace and the maroon, which was formerly red, represents the Kharijite Muslims of Qatar and the bloodshed in Qatar's many wars. The serrated edge represents Qatar as the 9th member of the 'reconciled Emirates' of the Arabian Gulf at the conclusion of the Qatari-British treaty in 1916.

Verbier is a ski resort in the Swiss Alps, in the canton of Valais. It is part of the "Four Valleys" ski area, which includes the ski resorts of Verbier, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, La Tzoumaz, and Thyon. Verbier is recognized as one of the premiere "off-piste" resorts worldwide. Many top skiers have settled in the resort in order to take advantage of the steep slopes, varied conditions and vibrant nightlife. Verbier is also a popular holiday destination for celebrities, including Sarah Ferguson, Diana Ross, James Blunt and The Crown Prince Couple of Denmark: Frederik and Mary.
Verbier is located in the Val de Bagnes, in the Valais region of Switzerland. The resort lies on a south orientated terrace at around 1,500 metres facing the Grand Combin massif.
Verbier only has one access road, which starts in the town of Le Châble.
The Grand Combin is a mountain in the western Pennine Alps in Switzerland. With its 4,314 metres (14,154 ft) high summit it is one of the highest peaks in the Alps and the second most prominent of its range.
The Grand Combin is also a large glaciated massif consisting of several summits, among which three are above 4000 metres.
The Alps (French: Alpes; German: Alpen; Italian: Alpi; Romansh: Alps; Slovene: Alpe) is the name for one of the great mountain range systems of Europe, stretching from Austria and Slovenia in the east, through Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany to France in the west. The word "Alps" was taken via French from Latin Alpes (meaning "the Alps"), which may be influenced by the Latin words albus (white) or altus (high) or more likely a Latin rendering of a Celtic or Ligurian original.
The highest mountain in the Alps is Mont Blanc, at 4,808 metres (15,774 ft), on the Italian-French border. All the main peaks of the Alps can be found in the list of mountains of the Alps and list of Alpine peaks by prominence.
The Alps are generally divided into the Western Alps and the Eastern Alps. The division is along the line between Lake Constance and Lake Como, following the Rhine. The Western Alps are higher, but their central chain is shorter and curved; they are located in Italy, France and Switzerland. The Eastern Alps (main ridge system elongated and broad) belong to Austria, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovenia and Switzerland.
The Alps are a classic example of what happens when a temperate area at lower altitude gives way to higher elevation terrain. Elevations around the world which have cold climates similar to those found in polar areas have been called alpine. A rise from sea level into the upper regions of the atmosphere causes the temperature to decrease. The effect of mountain chains on prevailing winds is to carry warm air belonging to the lower region into an upper zone, where it expands in volume at the cost of a proportionate loss of heat, often accompanied by the precipitation of moisture in the form of snow or rain.

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) describes the Asian elephant as "being seriously threatened with extinction". There are 560 working animals left in Laos and a further 700 wild ones rapidly running out of habitat. The Elephant Festival has been organised to raise awareness of the need for action to protect the Asian elephant as part of the vital cultural and natural heritage of Laos and the countries of the region. Nowadays conservation of an important elephant population is undertaken by Wildlife Conservation Society in Protected Areas. They are trying to reduce human-elephant conflict. The working elephant is a main source of income of the people of this region especially for mahouts. Laos Elephant also attract tourist because of the facility of elephant riding and trekking. Tourism appears to be one answer with its good and bad consequences.
In the late afternoon we arrived at the Tadlo Resort. This elephant was standing next to our bungalow all alone. I promised my kids a ride for the next day. I took a photo closely of this giant elephant but I did NOT noticed he was unchained. Nobody there just me and the unchained Elephant! I guess she must be a very friendly and timit Elephant. We had a beautiful bungalow overlooking the Tad Lo waterfall; as is typical in Laos there is nothing in between. The best thing to do here is explore the falls, a relaxing meal, visit the people in village, go for a swim and an elephant ride. There are two elephants, which can carry two people each. There were only a couple of tourists here, and we were the only ones going for a ride that next day. The elephant carried us across rivers, past the Taat Lo waterfalls, and through a village. The women were out working in the fields and tending to children. Their dress code is much more relaxed at home than in town. One woman hurried into her hut to cover her bare breasts as we rode into the village. The children, like all Lao children, shouted Sawadee. The young children find white- skinned people fascinating and frightening. They warm to your smile, tentatively touch your skin, and then hide their faces or run away. An elephant doesn't get very far in two hours. He just lumbers along. We had a friendly chat with the elephant handler and enjoyed the ride.

It's the Bean!
Group photo of myself, my nephew Danny and his girlfriend Lisa at Cloud Gate in Millennium Park in Chicago, Illinois. Locals call it the "Bean" because of its legume-like shape.
This was taken Thanksgiving weekend which turned out to be a great day (weather wise) in the city. That's us standing near my tripod. And yes, I am so powerful that I told all the tourists and locals to stand back as I took this eight second exposure to capture our reflection and the Chicago skyline.
Happy Travels!

Waking up in hospital in 2003, Mr. Vimon found himself unable to see and tied down with restraints. Apparently doctors were afraid he might commit suicide. Little did they know, their patient had more than just the will to live. Seven years after developing the Champassak Pa Suam waterfall as a tourist area, and just three days after the opening of his restaurant there, Mr Vimon Kidbamloung was hit by malaria and his world turned completely dark. His restaurant was full of customers, but shortly after opening he was taken to the hospital where he remained in a coma for 8 days. When I woke up, every thing was totally dark. I heard the voice of a young nurse who was looking after me, so I asked her to take off the restraints as I was conscious of my condition. I told the doctors to do whatever it took to assist me in my recovery. My cousin and two sons were waiting to help, he recalls. After his recovering Mr. Vimon decided to write a book how to fight and overcome set backs entitled: They Say I’m Crazy in order to tell his story in his own words.
I want to tell the facts about my life and my work in developing the waterfall. Because I am blind, people exaggerate too much about my life. Some people even say that I am a forest guarding soldier. After its introduction to the public, the entrepreneur’s book has been selling very well. Readers seems to be interested in this man’s life and how he manages to be so successful despite impairment. Vimon has also become a lecturer, invited to speak to youth in Laos and Thailand as teachers believe his life can inspire younger people to fight and overcome set backs in their own lives.
I think Mr. Vimon did a great job together with the locals. The Pa Suam waterfall is located on the Bolaven Plateau and is a great spot to spend a lazy afternoon or a quiet overnight stay. The Uttayan Bachieng Lodge overlooks the waterfall and offers a wide range of accommodation options, from unique tree-house type bungalows to homestay in an ethnic Lave village.
From Pakse we went for a long drive passing Lak then making a turn at the major road, Route 20, heading to Salavan province, we visited Pa Suam falls. At the entrance there is a long inner drive towards the falls where the unnamed restaurant of Mr. Vimon can be found. This one is pretty popular since it’s closer to Pakse and Salavan. Pa Suam Waterfalls is a low height falls. It’s beauty lies on its majestic wide torrent along rectangular stones. A very picturesque waterfall. There is another un-altered falls nearby Pa Suam and it doesn’t have a name yet. I thought the falls looks nice as it flows freely down river. After our visit we headed to an ethnic village nearby. There are a lot more falls in Bolaven Plateau. The best time to visit is in the afternoon for the best light but I might as well do with what I have.

After a recent visit to Point Cartwright, we thought we might as well stop by and check the SS Dicky for some more nd400 and Lee fun. The tide was fantastic - beautifully lapping around the wreck. I was thinking I needed another element to this shot and so Kane decided to jump in and stand still for a lot of time. He did cop a good number of waves and was a very still model. Under the trees made of supple wood,
When it is neither day nor night,
I will wait for you at the murky meadow
Beneath the midnight moon drained of light.
As I walk, I stand and observe,
Pretending that you are there..
Saturated in the crimson hue
Breathing the misty meadow air.

I made a promise last July that I would upload another picture of this mind-twisting stairwell (seen in Charlestown, MA). Here I am four months later proving that I'm a man of my word. This flattened perspective sparked an interest in urban abstracts this past summer... it still tops the list as one of my favorites from Boston. A huge thanks to Irisa for the crop suggestion!

I captured this amazing moment when the Sun was painting the London Centre Point in Gold...
=========================================================================
Centre Point is a substantial concrete and glass office building in central London, England, occupying 101-103 New Oxford Street, WC1, close to St Giles' Circus and almost directly above Tottenham Court Road tube station. The site was once occupied by a gallows.[1] The building was designed by Richard Seifert with engineers Pell Frischmann and was constructed by Wimpey Construction from 1963 to 1966. It is 117 m (385 ft) high, has 32 floors and 27,180 m2 (292,563 sq ft) of floor space and is the joint 27th tallest building in London. It was one of the first skyscrapers in London. It is a grade II listed building.

From my window at 2pm... It is Sicily, not Japan..
To the ancient Greeks, Mount Etna was the realm of Vulcan, god of fire, and the home of the one-eyed monster known as the Cyclops. At approximately 3350 meters, it is Europe's highest active volcano. The Mount Etna height of its summit changes with each eruption, and over the centuries a few lava flows have reached the coast. Over 1200 square meters of Etna's surface is covered with solidified lava.

Stuff about the Cleaven Dyke...
Cursus monuments. The largest in Scotland is the Cleaven Dyke, Perthshire. This is an unusual cross between a bank barrow and a cursus, with a 9m wide bank running midway between two ditches, which are 50m apart. The Dyke runs for over 2km, and was constructed in the late 5th or early 4th millenium cal BC. It is considered to represent some 60-80,000 hours of labour. The Dyke itself however is unlikley to have been constructed in one go.
At the NW end it appears that an oval burial mound was built first. This was partly covered by a long barrow and this in turn had the Dyke added to its SE end. The Dyke is not even in its construction, and has about 34 segments. This may indicate that it was constructed over some period of time. One of the excavators of the Dyke, comments that 'the apparent large scale of the effort necessary to construct the Cleaven Dyke may be an illusion; it and other cursus monuments may have been built over a long time period in relatively short segments... In some societies coming together over a long period to repeat some ritual activity (in this case the construction of a segment of the Dyke) may be more important than the monument eventually produced by many year's labour').

The Parc National des Pyrénées is a national park located within the French départements of Hautes-Pyrénées and here above the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Located along the border of France and Spain is a scenic and mountainous landscape offering a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, skiing, mountain climbing and observing wildlife. According to the Pyrénées National Park website, the park, created in 1967, is a natural heritage without barriers or fences where animals are totally free. Devoted to preserving biodiversity and landscapes, studying wildlife and plant species, the park is home to 70 different species of animals. Animals like: ermine, stoat, bear, desman, pine marten, wild boar, fox, lammergaier or bearded vulture etc. Only the bear's situation is worrying, their numbers have been steadily declining for the last 30 years only 6 individuals left today. The eastern portion of the national park forms part of the French section of the Pyrénées - Mont Perdu World Heritage Site that straddles the border between France and Spain. The oceanic influence gives the French, Northern slopes a mild and humid climate while the Southern winds give the Spanish slopes an arid look.

Have a great day everyone!!!! :)
After a long 500 mile train ride southeast from Krakow you have all made it to the next destination.
I welcome you all to the small town of Sinaih, Romania a place that will make everyone wish they were there....
Sinaih is a mountain resort town in the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania along the Peles river. The city is just 44 km from Brasov which is the second biggest city after the capitol Bucharest of course.
This is Peleş Castle which was built between the years 1875-1914 and is in fact Laurie and I's fafourite Castle in Europe. Yes you read that right, this Neo-Renaissance Castle is exquisite, in the perfect sense of the word. The Peles Castle was built with stone, wood and brick and the interior has 170 rooms 30 bathrooms! the cost was estimated to be 16,000,000 gold Romanian lei (approx. $US 120 million today).
The woodwork and collections they have inside are unbelievable. Only the best/most rare and exotic woods, fabrics and marbles where used in the building. For example two different types of woods they used were golden lime-tree and nut tree wood.
If you're a lover of woodwork this is an architectural jem you cannot miss in your life time. I wish I was able to take photos inside, but unfortunately I was not allowed and they even took our cameras. Sadface.
Oh well, at least I saw it with my eyes while my jaw was hitting the floor in every room. Maybe one day you will all visit and explore the castle yourselves.
In the meantime please enjoy these views of the Castle and it's surroundings in the breathtaking Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania....
++++ On this day: November 11th, please join me in remembering all the fallen soldiers. 2 years ago I was standing in The Canadian Cemetery in Bény-sur-Mer in Normandie and I will never forget that moment and the fallen who fought for our freedom. Thank you so much!
Been working days this week so not as much time for Flickr, by Friday I should be caught with everyone streams. Have a great week my peeps! =D +++++

"The Rhône Glacier (German: Rhonegletscher/ Valais German: "Rottengletscher") is a glacier in the Swiss Alps and the source of the river Rhône and one of the primary contributors to Lake Geneva in the far eastern end of the Swiss canton of Valais. Because the Glacier is located close to the Furka Pass road it is easily accessible.

Light, especially sunlight, has such a potent effect on your body's internal clock, or circadian rhythms, that you can use it to reset your sleep cycle, says Phyllis C. Zee, MD, PhD, director of the Sleep Disorders Center at Northwestern University.
"If you tend to be a night owl who can't get to sleep until 1 a.m., you may have delayed circadian rhythms. To shift to an earlier schedule -- and make it easier to get to bed and get up on time -- soak up as much sunlight as possible between 6 and 8 a.m." Force yourself to wake up early and sit in a sunny room or take a post-sunrise walk. When it's warm, try eating breakfast outdoors. Basking in early-morning rays prompts your body to suppress production of melatonin -- the sleep hormone -- during the day and release it earlier in the evening, so falling asleep isn't such a struggle.
Well I guess I start doing it :) coz frankly when I am out of city I always wake up early to catch sunrise but when I return to city :P I become a owl again :( :P I guess tr is many owl friends out tr isn't !
This was another SOOC shot pretty much the wow-est moment of sunrise, I do have lot of other shots which I tried planning and shooting will post them one at a time every morning :)
Its magical how even the boring mobile towers also merge with the landscape which looks as if taken from a Arabian Nights series, the old and new coexist and morning painter manages to paint it in such a way that you don't realize the difference and just get immersed in the morning glow :)
Good morning, Have a great Week ahead friends :)
