The Rocky Mountains National Park was one of my favourite places that I visited whilst in the US. There was something about all the wonderfully beautiful contrasts here that I fell in love with, and I got to play in the snow...in SUMMER :) Not matter where I turned there was a new sight to behold. I think I have had this song before, but it has to be sung with this shot ;) I am so excited that I have been there. :) Car

The assignment this week in Twitter Photochallenge is Self Portrait.
About:
The challenge this week is "Self Portrait". There are already many good contributions in the Twitter Photochallenge pool, so I had to do a little extra manipulation to make something new :))
This was shot with at very wide angle with two flashes. The inspiration for this creation comes from Josh Sommers, who creates the most amazing manipulations.
The big blue eye is my own, just slightly altered :)) I pulled the shot through all kinds of processing in Lightrrom and Photoshop, I do not look like this in real life :))
I used the warp tool to distort my face out of proportion. I took a separate photo of my eye wide open. I enlarged the eye using the OnOne fractal plugin for Photoshop, enhancing the colors and sharpened the structures. I cloned the pupil away and placed it underneath the warped face layer in Photoshop. Carefully I masked the original eye away and worked quite a long time one the edges. Very funny work :))
Check out the eye close up :))
Thanks

Buachaille Etive Mor is one of the most beautiful mountains and its more N peak, Stob Dearg is a magnet for climbers, hillwalkers and photographers. Buachaille Etive Mor is orientated SW to NE with its two munros at either end of a long winding ridge. Stob na Broige lies at the SW end of the ridge overlooking Glen Etive. As this end of the ridge is steep and craggy, the normal ascent routes are on the crest of the ridge from Stob Dearg, or by an ascent to the col between Stob Coire Altruim and Stob na Doire, either from the path to the W in Laraig Gartain or from the road in Glen Etive to the E
#219/365 Post Process Fridays episode #28. Just when you thought Point & Shoot week was over I reel you back in! This gorgeous shot was taken by Chris aka h1r0. Some of you may or may not know I spent a good portion of my childhood in Germany. Seeing European scenes like this really brings back some wonderful memories. If you get a chance check out h1r0's stream, he has some pretty incredible street portraits. Also I'm running low on PP friday volunteers. Let me know if you are interested or if I have passed you up. FYI I usually will pick the photo so sending me shots does not usually work out in your favor :) (see how I added a happy face so I don't come off as rude)

A great way to end a wonderful day. A drive down to Currumbin Rocks for a moonrise shot and plenty of opportunities to get something else than the moon. Sorry guys...no moon in this shot taken 6min before moon rise. The moon was behind the clouds for the first minutes so I just hang around...
And good to see my friends there too, Danielle and Nick, Terence and Brenda and the kids and Wayne and and and...

On the third day of the trip I took the boys to go shoot some paintball guns at a range just outside of Hirafu town, as they had been pestering me for so long to do so. Boys had seen lots of my old photos when I used to play paintball back in Texas, along with airsoft here in Japan, thus their interest.
Afterwards hit a dairy farm on the Higashiyama side of the Niseko resort for some freshmade icecream and horseback riding.

It's not easy shooting a sunset through a plane window as we climb above the clouds. I reckon I had about 25 seconds to get this shot, and that included getting my camera from the overhead lockers while were we climbing!
How great were these golden cotton buds!
We were chasing the sunset almost all the way home... its was neat, probably the longest 'blue hour' I've ever seen.
Enjoy.

This too is from my trip to one of the many islands in the Oslo fjord. I was trying to find my way back to the ferry on Gressholmen, but got stuck in this place by the sea. Lucky me, this place had all the elements you'll expect from an old fishing cottage :))
Some felt that the composition in original photo could be improved, I agreed and I have uploaded a new version. The original can be seen here :)

So I was recently tagged by both PollyPreppyPants and Gareth Weeks! This is a little "party" I had that involved Guitar Hero, tequila, whiskey and security not doing much of securing!

So, as my last, and only other, self portrait was quite well received, I thought I'd try another, and as shots where I get my feet wet often turn out well I decided to incorporate that as well by deliberately getting my feet wet this time, but there is more to this than meets the eye. This is where I grew up and I spent many a day by the harbour, beach and sea in North Berwick, however this was a pretty special sunset and there was an additional treat in store; as I stood for 30 seconds while this shot was taking, I saw a splash out to sea and then another, and then I saw something I've never seen in all my years standing looking out over this view... a pod of dolphins. For some of you that might be a common sight but not here... a very magical moment.
Oh and this was with my new camera :o)
This shot is dedicated to Yasmin Ahmad, who was one of the best directors from Malaysia. Sadly, she suffered a stroke and passed away last week.
Do check this out if you got the time: Funeral. This is one of my favourite commercials directed by Yasmin.
RIP Yasmin.
Also? Adobe Photoshop Elements presets -of a fashion. Until I created the 0rated Presets I had no clue Elements existed. Never heard of it, never used it. I've spent the last couple of days playing with Elements, trying to get the 0rated Presets to work. They do not. However there is a way around it.
Free Presets for PS Elements (6&7) are now available for download off the blog!

#207/365 The Tour de France finale stage is today. This shot is a tribute to Lance Armstrong. If all goes well, he should finish 2nd or 3rd overall. If you don't know the history here is run down. Lance survived testicular cancer, a tumor that metastasized to his brain and lungs in 1996. Then starting in 1999 he won a record of seven stright Tour de France titles. He then retired only to come out of retirement this year at the age of 37. This guy really is superhuman. This year's tour was really dramatic and I believe he could have won it this year. He announced next year that he is putting together his own team (Team Radio Shack) and will ride again to try to win. Hope everyone has a great Sunday...Enjoy Life!

The Black Hmong are the 3rd largest minority in Vietnam with nearly 900,000 people. In the Sapa region there are about 35,000 Black Hmong residing in the surrounding 17 villages and they account for about 50% of the area population. Most reside at an altitude of 1,600 – 1,700 meters above sea level in this stunningly beautiful region they call “the city above the clouds”. The Hmong started migrating to Vietnam from China in the last 300 years.
In this region about half the Hmong are Catholic and half animistic. They live of the land growing rice and corn and they all believe in the spirits.

The Geiranger fjord (Geirangerfjorden) is a fjord in the Sunnmøre region, located in the southernmost part of the county Møre og Romsdal in Norway. It is a 15 km long branch of the Storfjord (Great Fjord). At the head in the fjord lies the small village of Geiranger.
The fjord is one of Norway's most visited tourist sites and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, jointly with Nærøyfjord, since 2005, although this status is now threatened by the disputed plans to build power lines across the fjord.
The Geirangerfjord is under constant threat from the mountain Åkerneset which is about to erode into the fjord. A collapse would produce a tsunami, hitting several nearby towns including Geiranger and Hellesylt in about ten minutes.
Along the fjord's sides there lie a number of now abandoned farms. Some restoration has been made by the 'Storfjordens venner' association (see external link below). The most commonly visited among these are Skageflå, Knivsflå, and Blomberg. Skageflå may also be reached on foot from Geiranger, while the others require a boat excursion. The fjord is also host to several impressive waterfalls.
A car ferry, which doubles as a sightseeing trip, is operated by Fjord1. It runs lengthwise along the fjord between the small towns of Geiranger and Hellesylt.

One big perk about living in Japan is the food. Pretty much hard to get a bad meal here even on the cheap.
In addition its not hard to buy (mostly) local grown fresh veggies and fruits at local stands all throughout the city/country.

Midway Beach, Gisborne, New Zealand.
The tide was low and the clouds were rolling in, I was amazed by these cool cloud formations, a reflection was a must.
Aotearoa, New Zealand is the land of the long white cloud.
Place names are often difficult to translate, and the original derivation of Aotearoa is not known for certain. Many meanings have been given for the name. The word can be broken up as: aotea = cloud, and roa = long, (white being added in the translation as it is the most common colour of cloud) and it is accordingly most often glossed as "The land of the long white cloud".
Seen this shot before? well yes you have, I first posted it some 6 months ago, seen here, for that shot I used my father as a model. So here is the simple version.... and yeah, its pushed a little further this time.

About New Zealand
New Zealand is an island country in the south-western Pacific Ocean comprising two main landmasses (commonly called the North Island and the South Island), and numerous smaller islands, most notably Stewart Island/Rakiura and the Chatham Islands. The indigenous Māori named New Zealand Aotearoa, commonly translated as The Land of the Long White Cloud. The Realm of New Zealand also includes the Cook Islands and Niue (self-governing but in free association); Tokelau; and the Ross Dependency (New Zealand's territorial claim in Antarctica).
New Zealand is notable for its geographic isolation: it is situated about 2000 km (1250 miles) southeast of Australia across the Tasman Sea, and its closest neighbours to the north are New Caledonia, Fiji and Tonga. During its long isolation New Zealand developed a distinctive fauna dominated by birds, a number of which became extinct after the arrival of humans and the mammals they introduced.
The population of New Zealand is mostly of European descent; the indigenous Māori are the largest minority. Asians and non-Māori Polynesians are also significant minority groups, especially in urban areas. The most commonly spoken language is English.

This odd colored dragonfly caught my eye while I walked by, I had to stop.
First is the bright green colour, then the smoothness in the eyes. The eyes look out of focus until you see the original size that is available. I'm wondering if this is a sign of being young for a dragonfly?
