(Quelle: Wikipedia)

The common ivy (Hedera helix) is a twiner and the only Central European representative of the family Araliaceae.

The evergreen plant is able to climb up to at least 25 meters to trees and walls with their roots. Ivy can reach the age of 450 years.

The small, yellow-green blossoms are umbels and appear in the months of September through October. With this late flowering ivy is a specialty within the central European flora with their mainly flowering in the spring and summer and an important food source for bees, wasps and hoverflies. Of the butterflies, the admiral visited the blossoms. The silk ivy-bee (Colletes hederae) has even exclusively specializing on ivy pollen for rearing their broods . (Source: Wikipedia )

Happy Bokeh Wednesday!!

I must be going wacky or something. I looked at these dandelions and saw two things; fingers making a peace sign and a face, well at least the eyes! :-)

Yep, I am going wacky I think! I have to stop uploading these photos so late at night!

The calm before the storm. The air is still and the birds stop singing and go to shelter. The tropical storm is arriving. The rainy season in Thailand is from May till November. During this season you can get some of those torrential rains that last 30 minutes to 2 hours, like this one below then clearing and sun. It was a most spectacular scene and scary too. There is always little to no wind in the eye of storm. Recently the tropical storm Kammuri killed hundreds of people in Vietnam. So always be aware of the danger.

Below you can see the same photo I took 5 minutes later. From the calm before the storm into the windy tropical rain storm.

De stilte voor de storm. Prachtige lange schaduwen op het strand van Koh Kood. Binnen 5 minuten veranderd het weer totaal en is er een totaal ander beeld zoals foto hieronder duidelijk laat zien.

Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue, and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.

My first rainbow shot.. and there are two rainbows in this photo if you could notice.. a thick obvious one, and a lighter one above it ;)

The Alps (French: Alpes; German: Alpen; Italian: Alpi; Romansh: Alps; Slovene: Alpe) is the name for one of the great mountain range systems of Europe, stretching from Austria and Slovenia in the east, through Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany to France in the west. The word "Alps" was taken via French from Latin Alpes (meaning "the Alps"), which may be influenced by the Latin words albus (white) or altus (high) or more likely a Latin rendering of a Celtic or Ligurian original.

The highest mountain in the Alps is Mont Blanc, at 4,808 metres (15,774 ft), on the Italian-French border. All the main peaks of the Alps can be found in the list of mountains of the Alps and list of Alpine peaks by prominence.

The Alps are generally divided into the Western Alps and the Eastern Alps. The division is along the line between Lake Constance and Lake Como, following the Rhine. The Western Alps are higher, but their central chain is shorter and curved; they are located in Italy, France and Switzerland. The Eastern Alps (main ridge system elongated and broad) belong to Austria, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovenia and Switzerland.

The Alps are a classic example of what happens when a temperate area at lower altitude gives way to higher elevation terrain. Elevations around the world which have cold climates similar to those found in polar areas have been called alpine. A rise from sea level into the upper regions of the atmosphere causes the temperature to decrease. The effect of mountain chains on prevailing winds is to carry warm air belonging to the lower region into an upper zone, where it expands in volume at the cost of a proportionate loss of heat, often accompanied by the precipitation of moisture in the form of snow or rain.

My spouse got herself a nice new little camera and she snapped this pic up at the “Burgess Shale - Walcott Quarry”. The very knowledgeable guides were asked a question regarding a new theory, and since I had already spent a day with the scientist in question, I found that I was adding my own two bits worth to their answer. Here, I'm caught in the act.

This mosaic is based on the sculptures running around between the first-floor-windows of the Pyramide court of the Louvre, Paris, including Richeliu-, Sully- and Denon-wings of the building. The hall of fame consists of characters coming mainly from the XVIIth century (poets, writers, philosophers, artists, sculptors, painters, architects, politicians etc.). First I thought I would eliminate the differences between the original photos - later I didn't change them but just cropped and resized - the change of colour & tone reflects appropriately the time I spent with taking them (approx. 15 minutes; however, postwork including editing, identifying, even tagging took me weeks later) and due to the direction of the evening sunlight even the symmetry of the U-form space, as well.

1. Gregoire de Tours, 2. François Rabelais, 3. François de Malherbe, 4. Abailard (without his beloved Héloïse this time - apparently no woman among the sculptures), 5. Jean-Baptiste Colbert, 6. Jules Mazarin, 7. Buffon, 8. Jean Froissart, 9. Jean-Jacques Rousseau, 10. Montesquieu

At an archery competition… she made her own bow and came 3rd in her first outdoor competition :) (The next year, with the same bow, she was first, the Champion)

Here she is just moments before the final set, which she entered in second place, after a long day of a variety of sets.

Áo dài

The áo dài is a Vietnamese national costume for women. In its current form, it is a tight-fitting silk dress worn over pantaloons. Together with a nón lá hat, it creates an ensemble that is instantly recognizable as Vietnamese. Áo dài is pronounced "ow yai" in the South, and "ow zai" in the North. Áo is derived from a Middle Chinese word meaning "padded coat" (襖).[1] In modern Vietnamese, áo refers to an item of clothing that covers from the neck down. Dài means "long."

The word áo dài was applied to various garments historically, including the five-paneled áo ngũ thân or "traditional áo dài," a 19th century aristocratic gown. Inspired by Paris fashions, Hanoi artist Nguyễn Cát Tường redesigned this gown as a dress in 1930.[2] In the 1950s, Saigon designers tightened the fit to produce the version worn by Vietnamese women today.[3] The communists, who have ruled all of Vietnam since 1975, generally disapproved of the dress and argued for utilitarian clothing.[4] In the 1990s, the áo dài regained popularity.[4] The equivalent garment for men, called an áo gấm ("brocade robe"), is also worn on occasion, such as at a wedding or a death anniversary.

in japan kyudo (archery) is "the way of the bow."

In its most pure form, kyūdō is practiced as an art and as a means of moral and spiritual development. Many archers practice kyūdō as a sport, with marksmanship being paramount. However, the goal most devotees of kyūdō seek is seisha seichu, "correct shooting is correct hitting". In kyūdō the unique action of expansion (nobiai) that results in a natural release, is strived for. When the spirit and balance of the shooting is correct the result will be for the arrow to arrive in the target. To give oneself completely to the shooting is the spiritual goal. In this respect, many kyūdō practitioners believe that competition, examination, and any opportunity that places the archer in this uncompromising situation is important, while other practitioners will avoid competitions or examinations of any kind.
