Silence

La brume matinale danse

Dans le plus grand des silences

Laissant paraître

Ce paysage, qui veut naître

Pour cette nouvelle journée

Mes yeux émerveillés

Devant tant de douceur

Où s’éveillent les couleurs

Je me souviens de cette scène

Qui par delà, les monts m’emmène

A la découverte de se Pays

Où tout n’est que magie

Silence

The morning mist dance

In the largest of silence

Betraying

This landscape, which is born

For this new day

My eyes filled with wonder

Faced with such gentleness

Where awake colors

I remember this scene

Who beyond, the mountains take me

Discovering to Country

Where everything is magic

"All you need is faith and trust... and a little bit of pixie dust!"

That quote perfectly describes my feelings about my first workshop yesterday. I was beyond excited to meet my group and see what everyone had to offer, and I was nervous too...that I would suddenly forget how to create an image! So I thought it only appropriate to do a Peter Pan picture :-)

It was an absolutely wonderful day from start to finish. I think that we all learned something, and we definitely all had a laugh at some of my odd techniques both in shooting and editing!! :-P I am bursting with excitement for the next one now!

The Königssee is a lake located in the extreme southeast of the German state of Bavaria, near the border with Austria. It's all part of the Berchtesgaden National Park. Located at a Jurassic rift it was formed by glaciers during the last ice age. It stretches about 7.7 km. The lake similar to a fjord is surrounded by steeply rising flanks of mountains up to 2700 m. The lake is noted for its clear water and is advertised as the cleanest lake in Germany. For this reason, only electric driven passenger ships, rowing and pedal boats have been permitted on the lake since 1909. Due to its picturesque setting, the lake and surrounding parklands are very popular with tourists and hikers. In addition, the lake's position surrounded by sheer rock walls creates an echo, which is known for its clarity. St. Bartholomä, a famous pilgrimage church with a small inn nearby, is located on a peninsula about halfway down the western lakeshore. It named for Saint Bartholomew the Apostle Bartholomäus in German. A first chapel at the lake was built in 1134 from 1697 onwards it has been rebuilt in a Baroque style with a floor plan modelled on Salzburg Cathedral, two onion domes and a red domed roof. St. Bartholomä and the southern edge can only be reached by boat or via hiking trails up the surrounding mountains.

A bird's eye view of St. Bartholomä next to the Konigssee in the county of Berchtesgaden - Germany. You can see three electric boats. Photo taken from the Jenner mountain top at the height of 1,870 meters where the beauty of the Berchtesgaden valley and Königssee can be viewed. The lake is noted for its clear water and is advertised as the cleanest lake in Germany. For this reason, only electric driven passenger ships, rowing and pedal boats have been permitted on the lake since 1909.

When I saw this I had no choice BUT to shoot!

The Königssee is a lake located in the extreme southeast Berchtesgadener Land district of the German state of Bavaria, near the border with Austria. Large parts are comprised by the Berchtesgaden National Park.

St. Bartholomä and Watzmann

Lying within the Berchtesgaden Alps in the municipality of Schönau am Königsee, just south of Berchtesgaden and the Austrian City of Salzburg, the Königssee is Germany's third deepest lake. Located at a Jurassic rift it was formed by glaciers during the last ice age. It stretches about 7.7 km (5 mi) in the north-south direction and is about 1.7 km (1 mi) across at its widest point. Except at its outlet, the Königsseer Ache at the village of Königssee, the lake similar to a fjord is surrounded by steeply rising flanks of mountains up to 2700 m (8900 ft), including the fabled Watzmann massif in the west.

The literal translation appears to be "King's Lake", however while German: König does indeed mean "king", there had been no Bavarian kings since the days of Louis the German until Elector Maximilian I Joseph assumed the royal title in 1806. Therefore the name more probably stems from the first name Kuno of local nobles, who appear in several historical sources referring to the donation of the Berchtesgaden Provostry in the 12th century; the lake was formerly called Kunigsee.

In 1944 a subcamp of the Dachau concentration camp was located nearby where Heinrich Himmler had a residence built at Schönau for his mistress Hedwig Potthast.

On boat tours, it has become traditional to stop and play a flugelhorn or trumpet to display the echo; formerly demonstrated by shooting a cannon, it could be heard reflected up to seven times.

The Basilica-Cathedral of Our Lady of the Pillar is a Roman Catholic church in the city of Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain. The Basilica venerates Blessed Virgin Mary, under her title Our Lady of the Pillar praised as Mother of the Hispanic Peoples by Pope John Paul II. It is reputed to be the first church dedicated to Mary in history (Wikipedia).

Re-posted ~ The most famous photo of the Loch Ness Monster was taken 81 years ago today.

---------------------------------------------

Dedicated to our inner-child and to all the dreamers like us. ♥

The Loch Ness Monster is a cryptid that is reputed to inhabit Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands. The most frequent speculation is that the creature represents a line of long-surviving plesiosaurs. The legendary monster has been affectionately referred to by the nickname "Nessie" since the 1950s.

The earliest legend about the Loch Ness monster recorded is the story of the Irish monk Saint Columba’s encounter with the beast. During is pilgrimage in Scotland to spread Christianity across the land, on his way to visit with the Pictish king in Inverness, he encountered some Picts burying what remained of one of their own people, badly savaged by a creature in the Loch. Columba ordered one of his followers to swim over to the other side of the water and retrieve the dead man’s boat. During this the servant was attacked by a creature. Columba (invoking the name of God) commanded the beast to return to whence it came and it vanished beneath the waters of the Loch leaving the swimming man unharmed.

It was not until 1933 that the monster became world famous as the world newspapers reported the story. So keep your eyes on the loch as you travel around, you never know you may be lucky and spot the monster too.

The Story

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It seemed like it would be an easy sunrise to shoot. Merely go around the hot pool, over the top of the rock wall blocking the ocean, and around to the cliffs and lava pools. However, the rocks are extremely slippery and you don't expect that when all of the lava is just a few decades old at most and very sharp. So, you walk along experiencing a reliable grippy surface and suddenly it is as slippery as ice! So if you go here, especially in the dark before sunrise, be careful!

The problem gets worse because I wanted to get close to the little reflecting pools in the foreground, but it was difficult to even move, let alone run from these unobstructed waves which pound this spot every 20 seconds or so.

The weather was warm and about as perfect as it can get, and this can lull you into a false sense of security. I mean, how can there be danger in such a paradise? Well, with no coral reef in front of many Hawaian beaches, it seems like every 4th wave is a sleeper wave, so be careful photographing any non-reef beach. Seriously!

Anyway, even if you do not make it to the beach during the day (the hot-pool lifeguard has a bullhorn to keep people away from the waves), definitely visit this hot pool. It has an opening for the 78 degree (28c) ocean water to mix with the 94 degree (34c) hot pool water. Suddenly, the oean water feels as cold as California! The breeze off the ocean is cool enough so that you can relax in the hot water without getting too hot. It is perfect!

Pretty snazzy stuff I tell you... just to stand in awe of what you're seeing...

*Explored 8/13/01* #2 Highest Position

I'm back from San Juan Island where i managed to take a few good shots during a two days period. i Love San Juan Island. the scenery is amazing, and we went to see the orcas with Captain Jim, a great figure. he's based at snug harbor and certainly knows how to find these killer whales. kudos to him for keeping his calm in front of the 6 squeeking kids we brought on his boat!

So i'm starting to experiment with the 16-35 2.8 L and it's a great piece of glass. i'm needing a bit of time as switching to wide angle stuff is complicated when you're a telephoto freak. i also gave it a try with that Cokin square filter and it works great, except i'm bummed by the fact you have a LOT of vignetting at 16mm, even with the supposedly wide angle filter holder. if the wide angle filter holder is still showing such vignetting, then what are the options to truly eradicate vignetting at 16mm? anyway i still have a lot of things to discover here really.

in order to avoid having vignetting, i actually kept the shot at 21mm

About Ansel Easton Adam

Ansel Easton Adams (February 20, 1902 – April 22, 1984) was an American photographer and environmentalist, best known for his black-and-white photographs of the American West, especially in Yosemite National Park. One of his most famous photographs was Moon and Half Dome, Yosemite National Park, California.

With Fred Archer, Adams developed the Zone System as a way to determine proper exposure and adjust the contrast of the final print. The resulting clarity and depth characterized his photographs and the work of those to whom he taught the system. Adams primarily used large-format cameras, despite their size, weight, setup time, and film cost, because their high resolution helped ensure sharpness in his images.

Adams founded the Group f/64 along with fellow photographers Edward Weston and Imogen Cunningham, which in turn created the Museum of Modern Art's department of photography. Adams's timeless and visually stunning photographs are reproduced on calendars, posters, and in books, making his photographs widely recognizable.

On a trip in New Mexico weeks before the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, Adams shot a scene of the Moon rising above a modest village with snow-covered mountains in the background, under a dominating black sky. The photograph is one of his most famous and is named, Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico. The photograph's fame was probably enhanced by Adams's description in his later books of how it was made: the light on the crosses in the foreground was rapidly fading, and he could not find his exposure meter; however, he remembered the luminance of the Moon, and used it to calculate the proper exposure.

Another shot from Chester Zoo. It was the reflection that caught my eye for this one.

This Audi was at the parking place of Grand Hotel Huis Ter Duin. It's a beautiful car. What do you think of the editing?

I made this picture last summer but at that time I adapted this picture too much. Now I made a better version of it without the gates and poles. I hope you like it!
