The beautiful town of Ermoupolis is the capital of Syros as well as of the entire Cyclades. It is a commercially and culturally developed sea settlement of a great architectural beauty, a great reminder of the brilliant past of the city. This town was founded by the refugees and Greek revolutionaries who came from various parts of Greece, such as Chios, Psara, Kassos, Crete, Asia Minor, to the French-protected Syros to escape the massacres organized by the Turks during the Greek Independence and after the Revolution of 1821.

Houses are built very closely, one on the top of the other, surrounded by rocky slopes which were a protective fortress of great efficacy against the pirates and all the other enemies who threatened the island during 1200 AD, when the settlement of Ano Syros was built. To build this marvellous town, many European architects came from various countries like Germany, Italy and Greece, and joined their talents in a glorification of artistic and architectural beauty.

Out past the Andromeda galaxy, where the fleebnorks float in free space...

We find our hero, Maximillian O'Connor making a run for his life down escape pod corridor "B" while a heinous creature of unknown biological origin snaps at his heels. It's stench triggers a gag reflex.

..."They said it was contained... that the stasis field would hold... now they're all gone. I'll never taste Melissa's sweet lips again"....

Will he make it to the last escape pod in time? Hells to the No! ...

Well,... maybe. Stay tuned.

ive been going through a bit of an artistic crisis. lately ive felt like im trying to be something im not.. i dunno if its true or not, but thats how i feel right now. and i just want to be me.

however, my day was thoroughly brightened when i received a package in the mail. a very kind gentleman sent me a remote (yay! taking this picture was a piece of cake compared to normal) and a lens extender, addressed to "karrah kobus awesome photographer."

oh, and i want to explain this a little bit too, cause i feel like spine and butterfly pictures are everywhere, but this actually means something to me. and maybe i could have been a little bit more abstract in portraying this, but ive been sick for like a week and thats going to be my excuse, ha.

but when it comes to going back to being "me," the first thing i thought of is one of the experiences that makes me most unique, and that is the back surgery that i went through. i decided to make an image focusing on the spine... i altered it to appear abnormal and perhaps a bit ugly. i wanted the butterfly to symbolize an extension of the opposite. something soft and beautiful. i have a big scar on my back, but im pretty comfortable with it. so i just wanted to remember to not only accept myself, flaws and all, but embrace everything i have that is uniquely me.

i was also feeling inspired by my past as a dancer (nostalgia partially brought on by recently seeing black swan, which is super good). i miss the bright stage lights.

p.s. my goal is to get over half way by the day my 365 is supposed to be over.. yea, pretty pathetic haha. but im still only counting selfies.

Then I asked my friend to leave a Mobile hand set On!!! at the middle ground, and took the focus from the mobile set, although the mobile looks like the flash just at the tip of the camera but its at least 20 yards far for camera . One of my first SLR shots, taken in NYC a decade ago. The visit was a 21st Birthday celebration, alongside the gift of the camera itself. This is another scan of an original film image, EXIF data added, but no edits to the noise, scratches, etc. The trip was my compelling first connection to NYC; a city I got to return to a lot whilst studying more recently upstate. It was marked by the drifting mist and cloud in evidence in this view, which, neither undermined my engagement with the city itself nor, especially looking at this image in the years since 911, detracts from the impression it creates.

I would suggest viewing on black, despite the grain.

[From here on, I'm afraid things become a little reflective and over-wrought. It's not intended to offend, and no offence would be taken if you choose to skip it entirely.]

Having worked and studied overseas and in upstate NY, I've obviously made friends with a lot of people with far more intimate and emotional connections to 911 than I have myself. Not wanting to intrude upon or distract those far more powerful accounts, I still thought I might briefly commit some of my rememberings to this posting by way of commemoration and perspective.

On the day itself, we were living in Chipas, Mexico. In terms of timezones, this meant as we awoke the first tower was already on the news. Events unfolded as an American friend and I prepared for a morning volunteering (as English teachers) at the local orphanage. We had to leave for our teaching during the collapse. At the orphanage the kids would ask questions to get to know us, natural to them given their context, but strange to us, like; "Do you have a father/mother?" My friend's father was flying that morning, and he had been unable to contact him before we left, which gave a surreal, uneasy, yet somewhat epiphanic, edge to the morning.

Meanwhile, the close friend of another teacher in our group, was working in an upper level of the second tower. She had been unable to contact her. Understandably perhaps, to avoid panic and potential injury, after the first impact, she later found out that those working in the second had been told to remain at their desks. Her friend left her desk regardless, and, though she was still inside the tower when the second aircraft hit, she was now below the impact zone and thereby survived.

In terms of commemoration, I'd like to suggest, timidly, that one of the greatest tragedies of the day is not the tragedy of opposition - the battle between A vs B, whatever you label A or B, whichever side you take. Given subsequent conflict, right or wrong, that is how this event is often framed by the media. Rather I see it as a tragedy of those who have a side, and those who don't even know there was a battle. However the perpetrators are cast - be in political, religious, non-US extremist or US conspirator - clearly their paradigm was built on an underlying assumption of a conflict, which the victims were unaware of. If we disagree and together decide to fight one another, that is one thing. If we disagree, and I accept or am unaware of our differing thoughts, and yet you strike me down regardless, that is another, to my mind, greater tragedy.

I do hope these notes don't trivialise the event or offend anyone. It's just a record of a couple of stories and the musings that flowed from them. It's not meant as anything more. One thing my scanning of these old film prints has reminded me of is the power of a photograph to commemorate meaning over time. Flickr is chiefly a celebration of the present; of the frenetic energy of now and today. Perhaps one aspect of photography it overlooks is the longer term view. It's the difference between seeing the noise of everything, and stripping that noise away to leave the transcendent moment alone. Both interesting angles, but the latter inevitably absent from this medium, perhaps.

So that's probably quite enough introspection and philosophical declamation for the next few months. I hope you're all very well and have survived my ramble if you were generous enough to follow it. Have a superb week all.

Another picture of a strange looking tree. This one was taken in Boston on a night of (almost) full moon. I like how the lights at the bottom form a rough parabola. There was so much light pollution that the sky did appear to have a hue of pink (no special color has been added to the sky)!

Welcome to Alyki lagoon series.

Happy new year!

This part of series is shot in the aquatic settlement of Alyki which

is situated on the eastern part of Samos island close to the Asia Minor coastline.

In Alyki, the inhabitants of Samos used to get the best salt production in Greece.

That stopped happening in the year of 1965.

Today, the settlement of Alyki is of great ecological significance,

part of the program «Natura 2000», as well as the «Special Protection Areas-SPA» program.

Here, the visitor can see various species of animals,

such as hedgehogs, ferrets, river-turtles, lizards etc.

Additionally, there have been recorded more than 127 bird species, like Flamingos e.t.c.

So if you are a nature lover, do not miss visiting the area of unique beauty.

Yeah, things didn't always go very smoothly during the project last year. In situations like this one, if I could get just one frame with Suki giving me a good "look," I'd consider myself fortunate!

Welcome to my first upload in 2011. I hopy the new year started well for everyone of you.

Concerning the photo: On our Lake District tour we were heading to Tarn Hows in the morning and came across some beautiful misty landscapes where I took this photograph. These scenes with heavy morning sun and aditional fog are really hard to capture (imo). The OOC picture looks like crap and it took me hours (seriously) to process it to what it's now. And I'm still not happy with it... anyway I'm going to show it...

Better to see it in large so press "L" =)

PS: my last upload is my new buddy icon... yay!

Chhota Imambara was built by Muhammad Ali Shah, the third Nawab of Avadhbuilt, in 1837-1840, so it is not that old. Don't doubt for a minute that I forgot all the names here other than Chhota Imambara by the time I was out of this gate, so I should thank Wikipedia. The main building also serves as a mausoleum to both Nawab Muhammad Ali Shah and his mother.

The Power Of Love - Frankie Goes to Hollywood

I'll protect you from the hooded claw

Keep the vampires from your door

Feels like fire

I'm so in love with you

Dreams are like angels

They keep bad at bay-bad at bay

Love is the light

Scaring darkness away-yeah

I'm so in love with you

Purge the soul

Make love your goal

[1]-The power of love

A force from above

Cleaning my soul

Flame on burn desire

Love with tongues of fire

Purge the soul

Make love your goal

I'll protect you from the hooded claw

Keep the vampires from your door

When the chips are down I'll be around

With my undying, death-defying

Love for you

Envy will hurt itself

Let yourself be beautiful

Sparkling love, flowers

And pearls and pretty girls

Love is like an energy

Rushin' rushin' inside of me

This time we go sublime

Lovers entwine-divine divine

Love is danger, love is pleasure

Love is pure-the only treasure

I'm so in love with you

Purge the soul

Make love your goal

The power of love

Cleaning my soul

The power of love

There were just four of us down on the beach while nine others jockeyed for position up on the hillside. Of the shots I've seen so far, everyone came away with something different but equally as good. I've been to this spot once before and came away with a few very nice shots especially here and here. This time I thought I'd try a slightly different perspective and I'm fairly happy with the result.

Thanks to my good buddy Matt Granz for setting up this evening adventure and a very special thanks to his friend, Dave who was kind enough to chauffeur our very large group to and from the drop off point. No injuries and no arrests!

After accomplishing our primary target, I had the privilege and pleasure of shooting around San Francisco with Bob, Alan, and Terence. All local guys who know the city well and the cool places to go. Although I didn't get THE shot that has eluded me each time I've been here, this time because of a very large fence put up for the New Year's fireworks, I may have a shot or two I'm happy with. It's not a long drive for me and I can always go back for day trips.

If you have a chance, please check out the photostreams of all of the great photographers who made it on this night. As always, thanks for having a look and Happy New Year!

Up to 1816, the year the Ha'penny Bridge was erected, no other bridge existed between Essex (Grattan or Capel Street) Bridge and Carlisle (O'Connell) Bridge.

There was a ferry from the Bagnio Slip (at the bottom of Fownes Street) operated by one William Walsh. He owned seven leaky ferries and was under pressure from Dublin Corporation to repair them or replace them. He baulked at that idea, preferring instead to build a bridge. His proposal to Dublin Corporation was adopted and he was allowed in a hundred year lease to charge a halfpenny toll.

Designed by John Windsor and costing £3,894.7s.11½d., the bridge was manufactured in Coalbrookdale in Shropshire, the first centre of iron casting in Britain. Now one of the oldest cast-iron bridges in the world it was originally named Wellington Bridge, after the Dublin born duke who had trounced Napoleon. Offically called the Liffey Bridge, it is more commonly known as the Halfpenny or Ha'penny Bridge.

The bridge was the only pedestrian bridge on the Liffey until the new Millenium bridge opened in 2000. In 2001, the Ha'penny bridge was closed in 2001 for major repair. It was reopened 2003 with its original paint colour restored and changes made at the ends to allow standing room for pedestrians before crossing the road.

For everything there is a beginning and an end, there is an A and there is a Z, there is Alfa and Omega.

This symbolizes so many things for me now. It closes the cycle of 365 images.

Started out as a impulsive ADHD maxie project with a "what the hell, let's give it a try" kinda feel to it and see what I could come up with,

to make 365 photos and keep it interesting combined with my poetry and my sick sense of humor :)

During the project I've started to notice that it was also a very personal journey for me to wake up and shake some old demons off, and as you may know old demons made me sick.

Losing control over one side of your body isn't funny, losing the ability to speak properly isn't funny. months of insecurities and tests wasn't funny...oh don't get me wrong I am doing so much better and working my way back :).

So as you may know it took me a lot more than a year to finish this 365..but all things that happened never made me quit..and my girl never made me quit.

I cannot imagine what I would have done without her, with this project, helping me getting dressed, driving me to the hospital and so much more. I love you Liesje!!

And for you sweet guys and sweet girls, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful support and concern and even sweet presents during this 365 rollercoaster and my sickness, it really sometimes brought me to tears.

I always thought that Internet friendships were a lot of blabla..but now I know there can be real warm connections and I cherish them allot.

And some people that are with me from the beginning have a special place in my heart..

“... Hoje, parei rodeio

na fazenda da vida!...

Apartei um bom lote de alegrias

pra o saladeiro duma despedida...

Recorri a invernada do presente,

- onde inda existe o refugo do passado -

tinha gado gordo,

gado magro,

e algum terneiro pesteado...

O campo da estância está apertado!

O pingo do meu pensamento

e trotei...

repontando a tropilha dos meus dias
