Posting a good scan of the sketch made inside Civita di Bagnoregio's Chiesa San Donato. Lots of detail for my illustrated walking guide project.
Leyendo, por primera vez, cuentos que hasta ahora le contaba yo. Alegría con un poquito de nostalgia...
Every year from 8 to 13 June in Rotonda we celebrate one of the unique marriages "among trees" that are distinctive of an ancestral Lucan tradition: "L'a 'pitu e la rocca".
The "bride" and the "groom" are a fir and a beech, one uprooted from the woods of Terranova di Pollino, the other divelto in the locality of Piano Pedarreto, always in the splendid scenery of the Pollino Park.
In the following days, as two spouses, the plants "meet" and on the day of the "wedding", as happens in the greater wall of the Lucanian arboreal rites, the profane party merges with the sacred one, with the procession of the Saint, Saint Anthony , through the streets of the village.
Songs, dances, good food animate the ritual, as in any self-respecting "marriage", on the other hand.
The Lowry, Salford Quays
Another planned visit to Salford Quays today with the intention of trying some long exposures with a big stopper didn’t quite go to plan... dull featureless grey skies, head on drizzle no matter which way I pointed the lens and no inspiration to boot!
But there’s always the Lowry Theatre to pop into for a mooch and a coffee. Hadn’t been in since the refurbishment work on the bar and restaurant started and was surprised to see it fully completed and reopened. What a transformation...
Relaunched as Pier 8 Bar and Restaurant the £3M redevelopment by The Lowry - together with Manchester architects Leach Rhodes Walker and interior designer Koncept have upped the standard for dining in the Quays area.
Gone are the vivid colours and industrial steelwork and aluminium cladding of the Lowry to be replaced by textured materials and high end fittings.
Just to continue with my abstract theme, here are a few images from the new Pier 8.
The A-8 Owl was initially designed as a carrier aircraft, one of Ayascara's first indigenous jet fighters. Unfortunately, by the time the first prototype arrived for evaluation, the carrier program it had been planned for had already lost funding. Turns out a largely landlocked country doesn't really need to invest in a supercarrier after all. Nevertheless, the A-8's design had already been mostly finalized, and it would prove capable in many important ways. Its sturdy landing gear, wide delta wing, and excellent forward visibility made it easy for new pilots to fly. Furthermore, its wide wings allowed it to carry a substantial bomb load for its small size. These qualities have allowed the A-8 a new lease on life as a rugged, survivable fighter-bomber and advanced trainer aircraft for Ayascara.

This was started about a month? two months? ago, as my first return to the bricks since JFS 3 last summer. The build started with the realization that I could nest those two cockpit pieces together (like on Evan's F-16 and lots of other cool jets from other people) and still have it sit flush if I incorporated a half-plate offset. The tablescrap nose was originally looking like an attack helicopter, but DC11 is set in 1962 and attack helicopters basically didn't exist then. So I adapted, added those intakes, and the rest of the build came together from there. It's a somewhat chibi jet, which has always been my comfort zone. This was basically finished before the Starfighter, but I hadn't figured out what ordnance to put on yet, and I was too lazy to render without any. Shout-out to Errin for ~~bullying~~ inspiring me to make working landing gear in both the front and rear, as well as for the general AAM design.
