On the night of March 27, 1996 I had the scanner on and heard this guy requesting his meal enroute as he was coming through Rochelle, IL. By this time after the Union Pacific merger, the usual "beans at Dekalb" was denied. But on this evening, the dispatcher let him make the stop. Being a fan on the C&NW Dash 8's--and especially the only one that ended with the number '23', I made my way down to Dekalb to find them behind The Junction shopping plaza on the west side of town. A time exposure, coupled with a clear 25 bulb on the nose, produced this view of the C&NW 8523 and 8718 against the Northern Illinois night.
One of the houses in a former mining village. Most all of the houses were split in 2 housing 2 families under 1 roof.
Night, near full moon.180 second exposure, protomachines flashlight set to red, green, blue & a shot of white.

From this point of view, it looks like the Super 8 hotel is abandoned but it's not. I shot this photo from a parking lot where a evening A&W drive in car show was going on and I saw the tall Super 8 sign and the all the vegetation just kind of had that abandoned feel to it. There was an approaching storm too which made the clouds look super ominous.
gratitude for his morning's light, for time to write today's @hellotherefriendproject post, for friendship, for pinkeye drops, for hazelnut cinnamon coffee...
Thirty-eight. That's the number of people killed by Mick during the explosions. Thirty-eight people I could've saved.
My whole life, I've been taught to use my powers for good. And I've tried. Really, I have. This whole "be the Flash" thing has been a blessing since day one, but I feel like I haven't lived up to his legacy. How can I be the hero everyone needs if I can't run fast enough to help everyone? Sure, I managed to get a lot of people out, but thirty-eight died. Fifty are hospitalized, including Victor. He was caught under debris and suffered major injuries and third-degree burns. All this is my fault. I messed up Snart's plans, so he sent his little lapdog to try and get at me.
I hear a door open, and look to see Cisco walk in. He smiles.
"Y'know, I heard that depression can always be cured by food," he says, and takes a chocolate bar out of his jacket pocket. It's gestured to me, but I ignore it. This causes a frown.
"Hey, I know how you feel. This one time, I developed a pair of gloves that could emit seismic waves. For a high school project, which was great because not too many-never mind. Anyways, when I went to demonstrate them, they went haywire and caused a giant hole to open up under out feet. No one sustained any fatal injuries, but I felt so bad. These were my inventions, so I told myself it was my fault. Turns out, my brother had spilt orange juice on them while he was looking at them. The point is, things happen out of our control. We may not like it, but that's life. Don't let yourself get down like that. When life throws you a curveball, just look up and try to catch it."
I smile, which causes him to grin. I'm about to say thanks, when his phone goes off. He takes it out and looks. A look of fear instantly covers his face. I look at the screen and there's a video of a man in a hooded jacket with a black mask covering his face. Over that was a pair of blue goggles. Snart. He spoke.
"I'd like to say something to the lovely hero that tried to stop my plans. My Rogues and I are waiting in Infantino Park. Be here by 11 p.m., or else this city will die."
Cisco looks at me and says, "You need to stop them."
I nod and get ready to leave, but before that I ask him one question:
"How would you like to design a superhero costume?" His face brightens up.
"M'lady, it would be my pleasure."

6, 7 & 8 make up a three part series. There is an idea here that I'm still working on. Still have some technical issues to work through - specifically focus and contrast. I think I just need more light. Getting there... Slowly, but getting there.
Varifocus diptych of the courtyard of St John's Cathedral, Valetta - shot through the iron fence decorated with the Maltese cross. The 8-pointed cross of the Knights of Malta is a long recognised symbol of the island, as well as the 'hospitalier' (health charity) activities of the Order of St John.
