5 Pointz in Long Island City, New York, considered to be the world’s premiere “graffiti Mecca,”

Well obviously, here is the 3rd version. When trying to determine how to approach a third interpretation of the same image, the primary element I saw as being "the same" in versions 1 and 2 was the amount of detail being displayed. So, "Through a glass darkly"....became my starting point and creating a more muted, distorted vision of the facts my goal.

One of the reasons I chose this image was because I found the building to be so curious. There was so much time and effort put into the ornamentation on the top of the building.....yet the remainder of the building, even when first constructed decades ago, left so plane. It is obviously in a sad state now but the "crown" across its top testifies to a glory day now long past.

Thanks for the support everyone and for wadding your way through my little exercise. I hope you will try this on your own sometime and share your experience.

On Black

"...XIII

It was evening all afternoon.

It was snowing

And it was going to snow.

The blackbird sat

In the cedar-limbs."

I was in New York and went to visit 5Pointz on the 17th November 2013. There was already a lot of graffiti urging "save 5Pointz". Then a day or two later, it was reported the whitewashing had begun. I returned on the 20th, 3 days later, to witness practically all the graffiti already gone, but also graffiti writers' angry responses on the white walls.

Paul W. Stewart founded the Black American West Museum in 1971. The Museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving and disseminating the contributions of Blacks in the Old West.

While famous for telling the story of Black cowboys, we are broader than this with interests in the stories of all those early Blacks who came west and performed as miners, soldiers, homesteaders, ranchers, blacksmiths, schoolteachers, lawmen, and every other profession needed to build up the West. In fact, the Museum itself is in the home of Dr. Justina Ford, Colorado's first Black woman doctor!

YOUS LOOK UP TOO ME

Someone asked me the other day - " [...] what is it with you, I never see any people in your photographs?"

One of the early morning images I took during the all day #onedayinwhittier photography event on 2/13/16. I woke up before sunrise to get out and get a few pictures before heading over to here on the 5 Points Bridge. I had to hurry to get a parking spot and then jog/walk up on to the bridge and setup my camera on the tripod and get the correct exposure for the sunrise. It was rising fast so I had to hurry and work fast. I took over 75+ images as well as some shots to merge into a panorama image. This was one of the nicer ones. I love the warm sunburst lighting up the bridge and lighting his path along the trail. Canon 60D with Ultrawide Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens. Edited in Lightroom CC ver 2015.4

Brick structure located at the now abandoned pharmacy parking lot at the 5 Points intersection in Whittier, CA. Epic clouds this day before the coming rainstorm. This is pretty much a "man vs nature" struggle shot.

In the valley below the house

One night only - We have a large very awkward looking cactus with gangly long leaves. Once a year, always in late summer or early autumn, flower buds gradually emerge, eventually they open after sunset, and for the next four hours the petals gradually unfold, and by next morning the blossoms close and die.
