Died July 13, 2010 Serving During Operation Enduring Freedom

20, of Tucson, Ariz.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died July 13 at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device July 6 in Arghandab, Afghanistan.

 

Memorial Day originated after the American Civil War to honor both the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the war. The holiday was extended by the 20th century to include all American soldiers. Memorial Day is formally known as Decoration Day. This day is not to be confused with Veteran's Day which celebrates the service of all United States military veterans.

 

Some gave some, and some gave all.
