EVERYONE'S LOOKIN FORWARD TO THE WEEKEND, WEEKEND ;)

Pretty boring, I know. But the snow on the ground was so sparkly and pretty. And look, it's my new sweater! :D

Simon Says Stamp BLESSED, Altenew PAINTED FLOWERS

First of a new series. A beautiful 41 Willys. Custom built by a friend of mine. My 14 year old son helps out at his shop and helped with this car.

Album: People from San Francisco

Wow, Barney's had the absolute best afternoon he's had for a really long time. My dad, his girlfriend, her 3 BCs (Lyra, Hovis & Chance), Barney & I all went for a wander up Midsummer Hill together. The weather was a bit nasty, dark, damp & cold (& not ideal for photos) but of course, being collies the dogs didn't care about that one bit.

Barney was in complete heaven, he thought it was awesome having a little gang of border collies to bounce around with. He was sooo much happier & more relaxed than he often is while out on the hills - almost like a different dog. We've been struggling with a bit recently, as Barney's going through one of his nervy periods but today, he just acted like a normal (normal for a collie), confident pup. No worrying about bangs, or other noises & he actually wanted to run around & have fun - rather than stick by my side like glue the whole time. I've had him run with other dogs before & it's not made much of a difference to Barney's confidence levels but apparently, he really, really loves hanging out with his own breed!

He had friendly competitions with merlie girlie Lyra to catch the ball, actually fetched the ball back to me on the occasions he reached it first (something he often won't do when we're out!), ran around happily with the puppy (who was being less bossy this weekend, thank goodness!), barked a lot, rolled around on the grass & played fetch some more. He is now utterly exhausted & has been given an extra painkiller because I suspect he overdid things a bit but it was definitely worth it to see him have such a good time! I have a hideous number of photos waiting to be sorted... This probably isn't technically the best I took but it summed up his happy afternoon :)

Salutari domnului mecanic

Located in the picturesque southern constellation of Centaurus, the Gum 41 nebula takes up most of this image brought to you by the VLT Survey Telescope, hosted at ESO’s Paranal Observatory in Chile. Let’s take a closer look at this intricate structure.

Set against a colorful backdrop of stars, Gum 41 is a pleasantly symmetric example of a Strömgren sphere: a shell of hydrogen gas atoms glowing in rosy hues due to the radiation of the dazzling central star. While this star, called HD 100099, may appear to be one very bright object, it is actually thought to be two young, massive stars orbiting in such a tight embrace that they cannot be separated at the scale of this image.

This romantic region is home to many pairs like this, including the luminous object on the lower right outskirts of the nebula, HD 99944. Sadly, the love story in these stellar couples will have a tragic ending: unlike our Sun, these hot and massive stars tend to have short lifetimes of only a few million years, and eventually there will be no young stars left to make the nebula glow. One day, Gum 41 will fade into transparency and be lost to future astronomers forever.

Gum 41 is also a member of a much larger region, affectionately called the Running Chicken Nebula. Whether Gum 41 forms the foot or the head of the chicken is surprisingly controversial. Take a look here — what do you see?

[41/100] Auttiesh

We stopped by the skate park today to watch for awhile and I found that I could not resist grabbing my camera for a few shots.

I struck up a conversation with Auttiesh. He grew up in Grand Rapids and has been skating for 17 years, though he lamented that he only gets out to skate now a time or two a week because he has a wife and family. Auttiesh has a skating apparel company called Gold Coast (he is wearing one of the shirts).

Auttiesh agreed to a portrait for the 100 Strangers series and I also took a few of him skating (another shot is in the comments below).

This is #41 in my 100 Strangers Project. For more information about the 100 Strangers Project, please see the eponymous Flickr group: www.flickr.com/groups/100strangers/
