The Musée Carnavalet, which is devoted to the history of the city of Paris, is housed in two adjacent 16th century town houses, the Hôtel Carnavalet and the Hôtel Le Peletier de Saint Fargeau. It re-opened in 2021 after a four year renovation. There are more than 650,000 items in its collections. This photograph is of part of the magnificent guest salon of the Hôtel d’Uzès, designed by Claude-Nicolas Ledoux in around 1768. The gilded 'boiseries' (woodwork panels) were carved by Joseph Métivier and Jean-Baptiste Boiston.
